I think this will cause a /DIV0! error for a couple of people...

He got 'accidentally' run over by Souness' daughter....

Apart from me. Having said that, I was happy with Faye. 50% aint that bad I suppose. 87151 No, you were probably 100% right about Butt, but 200% wrong about Faye, so mathematically you should never comment about a player's ability again (and I didn't even include Luque). 87186 How about Baros and Koller? 87252 Though, I still think that I am basically right about Baros scoring ability. I wonder if O-Nut wants my opinion regarding who is going to win the golden boot at this year's World Cup... 87271 It won't be a German player, that's for sure! 87279 Just because penalty shoot-outs don't count...

I think we might scrap an unexpected win.

The money could certainly have been better spent, but without Owen we would almost certainly get relegated. What is it, 6 points from the games he's missed? I blame Souness for the state we're in, yes, but in a more global sense than the signing of one player. You have to look at the bigger picture on who he got rid off as well. We should never have had to rely purely on one injury prone striker. 87066 If he'd only had more cash though he could have brought in a few more injury prone strikers. 87072 Not that long ago that we relied heavily on the injury prone Craig Bellamy and before that, an injury prone Alan Shearer. We went to shit when they were out of action as well IIRC - Souness's fault? 87078 Did we really? We obviously missed Bellamy when he was out, but I think we never relied on him as much as we rely on Owen. This has to do with the fact that under Robson the team was able to get results even from games even with important first teamers missing, e.g. the Championsleague games after the red card fiasco. Under Robson we were a team under Souness we are a one-man-show.

The thing is some players are on ludicrous wages making it nearly impossible to offload them. That applies for a lot of players. If Comical Alan's rumours are true, Babayaro is on 50k. Do you really think any club would pay a fee and those wages to take him from us? Or Dyer. He normally would have a decent value, but do you think any club would pay him even half the wages he allegedly gets for sometimes wearing a toon shirt?

"I couldn't concentrate on the pre-match perparation. There was this fat, ginger nutter who is stalking me and trying to be supportive."

It's called "doing a Bogarde".

"Look, we had a lot of distraction today. Lady Luck's dog jumped on the team bus and ate my tactic sheet - though I don't believe in tactics - and then crossed the street. My daughter who was driving by got scarred and crashed her car into a wall. Poor Kieron Dyer who was standing at the wall receiving threating textmessages from the little Welsh bastard and this obnoxious journalist who writtes totally nonsense. He could only just jump out of the way but tore his hamstring while doing so. We are a wee bit jinxed but have to stick together, I tell you that. I will soldier on. I rest my case. "

I like the one from the other forum: "A dog ate my tactic sheet"
-
"I'm sitting with everything crossed but the weather hasn't been kind," Souness admitted. "We can't push him on the way we'd like because the ground has been frosty." I am already looking forward to tonight's excuse.

Skillful player, a bit lightweight, dodgy attitude... ... wait for him scoring a stunning goal, winning a penalty with a dive and getting sent off next Saturday.
-
The next three games will be crucial. We can't afford to drop any more points against teams fighting with us against relegation and for a midtable position.
-
...no wonder as he left behind a club in a desolate state.
-
Andy O'Brien was better value for money than Boumsong. FACT (unfortunately). ... not to mention Aarones Zico Hughesinho.

At least it means I'm losing the "you and Craig are the same person" tag now 86203 No, it just means that Craig seems to be a Chelsea fan, too...

Of course it is down to FIFA to sort it, but I think that ManUre are entitled to complain about it. And there isn't the same sort of code of honour as for sportmanship on the field, this is the business side of football where several million pounds are at stake. And for the proof: I can't see Chelsea telling Mikel "Sorry lad, but you already did sign for someone else, we unfortunately came too late and can't sign you." And taking the Cole and Arnesen actions into context I don't think that Chelsea deserve the benefit of the doubt.
-
Now Chelsea don't have a history of tapping up players or other staff members from rival clubs. The player wouldn't be able to change his mind if there wasn't a club willing to sign him... 86155 FACT? 86159 What, that Chelsea tapped up Ashley Cole? That they tapped up Arnesen? Yes, I think these are facts. Plus the rumours around the bid for Gerrard and the signing of Essien. But is good to see you sticking up for Chelsea yet again... 86165 Forget it's Chelsea for a minutes, and forget it's Man United. One club are calling for specific action to hamper the other clubs' chances of success. You think that it's right that a club are able to do this? What the hell has it got to do with either club? It's up to FIFA to decide what happens, seeing that it's the player who has effectively broken the contract. Even if Chelsea have spoken to the player, if he's under contract to Man United then it's up to him to either honour the contract or suffer the consequences. Nice to see that you're bashing Chelsea yet again... 86168 Well, I don't deny that I hate Chelsea (as much as ManUre). Regulations are there to be honoured. A player wouldn't get his head turned if there wasn't a club approaching him (and probably offer him more money or making him other promises). The regulations about the "tapping" of players are there to protect clubs, especially smaller ones, from other clubs. If a club came away scot free of tapping up players and only the players got punished then it would open the door for a club like Chelsea to simply try to poach players by throwing money at them ... what they are already doing. Players not honouring contracts is one thing, but clubs not honouring the contractual status of players is the root of the problem.

You're spot on actually. 86152 *lick* tbh. 86158 Being slightly serious here for a minute Gemmill, it does seem the only argument you have on the Newcastle board at the moment is to evade the issues by taking the piss out the poster. Now we all like a bit of banter, but some content would nice too occasionally. So perhaps you'd like to tell us what was wrong with Isegrim's post, because I thought it was spot on? God, I sound like a teacher now. 86163 It's just Gemmill's attempt to take the flak off Souness by diverting the attention from the painful facts just as Souness is trying to take the flak of the players by hilarious interviews live on national television.

Who was seriously expecting us to lose against Cheltenham? 86141 There were plenty of posts stating that they were worried about us losing. Or are you claiming everyone on here knew we'd win? 86145 There were a couple of people fishing for a "told you so" reply by stating they could see us losing, but I don't think anyone really considered it to be very likely.
