Dominating the media, which of your players are being burgled at the moment ? none if he is on here

Im thinking the overall picture. Ashley has yet to mention his Geordie legions on Sky, yet to be seen in FYEO, yet to promise to carry Owen back to scouseland, yet to buy company cars from sports direct at an inflated price, yet to give a job to a family memeber only for them to spend most time abroad, yet to be seen in greggs, yet to talk on sky like a complete twat. Then on Tuesday ... As for the not yet happened appointment, maybe I am just more relieved its not McLaren or Hughes than I am glad its (maybe) Harry, and yes I also would have liked to have seen a "bigger" name (foreign) , but I still insist that for one its not to say he didnt ask and get knocked back, and also that we are not the attractive prospect we like to think we are. Of course we are for the likes of Harry, but not for the likes of Jose when he is being touted for Barca / AC etc. Are we not being overambitious?

How can someone not make use of talent like Owen, Zoggy and yes even Martins pace though ? Anyone who attempted to play football, would have got more from players like this. If anything, it was Sams "different" tactics which proved his downfall, and is also the pont I'm trying to make. Basically, its all about good players, playing in their best positions, with desire, confidence, in a balanced team with a good shape, and let the opponents worry about you. Tactics are mainly paying attention to strengths and weaknesses of your team mates, and having an awareness of where your opponents are most dangerous and most weak. But never to the detriment of your own players. Sam has joined a list of managers at Newcastle who thought it was their tactics playing the game and not the players. You can't tie talented players down with too much tactics. Expressing their ability is how they beat inferior opponents. I think I was agreeing with you Im saying sam was using tactics that didnt suit the players like Owen and Martins. I still dont doubt that Owen could make an impact (yeha when fit) and martins could be more useful if used differently. As said abovem Sam was to pig headed about using his shitty tactics despite not having the players (mostly) do to it. To me, as you say, when you have Martins, Owen, Zoggy and now Duff back, you would think the tactics would be based on pace and good movement. Not what we were seeing.

I dont think anyone should expect Ashley to throw silly money at a manager. Especially not one he appointed or another until they have shown they can make good choices with that kind of money. As for your title ... just no pleasing some people...
-
Id agree in that to an extend. I dont think Owen or Martins suited his style at all. But, he brought in enough of his own to make it mostly his. Just for some reason seemed to think a team of 10 defensive midfielders would do the trick.

Aye that got me as well, twats

I dont see him as long term, but is ideal to set someone else up. Like a Shearer or whoever as has been mentioned.

Well, to the question posted, yes I would welcome him. As I think everyone should, whether they wanted him or not. If the question was could we have done better? Then Id also say yes we could have if we went for a foreign manager and spent more time looking (before Sam was out). If the question was are you happy with the appointment? Id more say relieved that it wasnt McLaren (which really had me shitting myself) or even hughes. However, in relation to previous three managers. I do think Harry is way better than Souness (man management, signings, tactics all). I think he is better than Roeder mainly due to experience. As for Sam, its not that I disliked the person (like GS), it was the manner is which we were loosing. The awful style. Like I read somewhere. Winning ugly may have been accepted, not loosing ugly. Im sure Sam could go elsewhere and repeat what he done at Bolton given time. I just dont think we wanted to be that club. I reckon Harry might not be better than Sam (achieving Europe is possible but that would be it, as I think Sam could have given time), but I reckon he could get us there in a more acceptable fashion.

SSN - Newcastle to make official approach for Redknapp

Depends on the away games as well, not just home though? Or is that too sensible -
Isnt that the round cheese? You off to the moon like?

Nice to read a good article from someone who knows the club and not some southern hack looking down from their ivory tower. You are right about KD though, trying to change things too quickly. That was ultimately his downfall.

Just what the hell does that mean?! 'Understands'? From who??? The club has either said it or they haven't. For anyone who thinks 'we should give Harry a chance' if he's brought in I say bollocks, it's ridiculous. Redknapp doesn't inspire any form of optimism, he's a cockney tit who's in no way better than Sam, call it a sideways step or whatever but one way to garentee that a manager won't get a decent chance is to employ one who doesn't get the fans going. I'm fed up to the back teeth of every time this managerial roundabout kicks off with us we end up extremely underwhelmed, no wonder there's a large portion of the fans who are so indifferent and unsupportive. I don't believe this rubbish about not being able to attract a higher class of manager either, money talks and Ashley's got a stack, he either wants to win stuff with Newcastle or he doesn't. If we get Redknapp I'll be mightly fed up with the whole thing. Whilst I am completely underwhelmed by the appointment (if true) of course as a supporter of the club I am going to give him a chance. What do you propose we do? Continue the pantomime booing, start Redknapp out chants etc Some people wouldn't even give Allardyce 12 matches, do you think we should be hounding Harry out before a ball is even kicked? I think for me personally I'm just fed up to the back teeth with the continuous appointment of 'make do' managers rather than pushing the boat out and getting someone with a decent rep or at least inspiring in (yes, I know Sam had an rep of sorts but he's the exception of recent appointments). I don't propose the whole pantomime thing, I don't do booing anyway but I certainly would be less inclined to buy a season/match ticket, new shirt, club merchandise, etc. I think I'd just find myself in that limbo of being a supporter but unable to muster any enthusiasm, is it wrong to want someone a bit more exciting than Harry Redknapp? Of course not, we all want someone more exciting than Redknapp, but we have to have some realism. IF Harry gets the role, Id like to think of him steadying things, improving the football, settling things down somewhat, and us taking a bigger step next time. We have to give whoever gets the role, Harry or not, a chance. Of course we'd love someone like Jose, but we aint exactly Barcelona are we? No really we aint! -
Are there any first rate english managers?

Exactly. Harry wouldnt be my first choice, but the options available are much much smaller than many fans would like to think. While the form table shows that Pompy have a shocking recent home record (as per .com) its interesting to see they are TOP of the away form table. I'm bored of the "Mourinho, Lippi, Hitzfeld wouldn't touch us" argument. Who has said they would? There are others though. Man City got Eriksson, Spurs got Ramos - we're in the same position in and we go for a 60-year old never-was. That's what it comes down to! Who should we have gone for though? Take our Ramos, Sven etc are we really left with Jol, Houllier with prem experience (assuming they wanted that). Ashley/Mort are new to football so I really dont see them taking a risk with an outsider. If Im honest, Id accept taking Harry, though like most be underwhelmed by it, however I think Im happier we didnt get Hughes or McLaren than I am anything else. As it seems at least.

Yet another case of a manager being overrated by the press a la Souness. I really am struggling to find much in the way of positives here other than his teams usually play half decent football (albeit without any great success in winning games). Most of all I am just pissed off that we've made no effort at all to bring in a top class manager. Chirst even Birmingham showed more ambtion than us. I'm not suggesting for a minute that I expected the likes of Mourinho to be banging down our door but surely we could at least try. Maybe we can get a couple of seasons out of Redknapp where we start moving forward a bit and get into the UEFA cup and then we can try again with a top class manager. Now have a look at their away record
