  1. tbh EDIT:If you're watching at work..... stop watching and do your bloody job. But if you are, may want to stop at about 55 secs in.
  2. TRTWP is one of the few books I have made a decent effort to read, given up, and never gone back to it. Had a phase about 8 years ago where I tried to read as many 'classic' (orwell, catch 22, clockwork orange, etc) books as I could. Did pretty well and enjoyed DAOIPAL but TRTWP never did it for me. Can't even remember how far I got, but it can't have been more than 1/4 of the way through. oh well Does that mean you can see how 'The Road to Wigan Pier' is relevant? No it means I have yet to read The Road To Wigan Pier, I get the jist of the book but I am yet to read it. I only read Keep the Aspidistra flying on the basis it was in an anthology I bought, still a decent enough read. I was joking numbnuts. I don't see the relevance of either book. TRTWP is class btw. And give 'Down and Out in Paris and London' a blast too if you get the chance.

  4. Stevie, I did ask you 2 q's which have been dodged: 1/ are you religious? 2/ what do you think would have happened (football supporting wise) if you'd been born in an area of Birmingham where its mainly Villa fans? seriously. I guess you may not want to answer the first q, which is fair enough. but I'd be very interested to hear the answer to the 2nd
  5. It's like Spain are playing a completely different game to Newcastle (and England for that matter). The ability to string together one touch 5 yard passes in triangles and with fantastic movement and interchange is depressing when you think that we've got butt. guthrie, et al. who can hardly string together 2+ passes when not even under pressure Apparently Wise was watching the game, and is just about to get authorisation for an £8million combined swoop for iniesta and xavi, with butt and duff thrown in for good measure. We'll make our move at 11.30pm at the end of the next transfer window, with no contingency plan because it will definitely happen!!
  6. Have to say a lot of what you say is fair enough. But you do seem to sidestep why you have a go at people who aren't as "lucky" as you and I. If anything you should be more tolerant of others than you'd expect them to be of you, because you are lucky enough to have been brought up in a society that doesn't do such barbaric things as you have outlined, and should have been better educated than the average member of the world By all means have a go at the people who practice things like female mutilation/circumcision, but you can't have a go at all africans/muslims for the actions of a minority. To be fair, even when its the actions of a majority, you still can't have a go at all of whatever section of society. Didn't answer my bit about whether you're religious? Also, do you not look at what is considered "English" with a bit of shame these days. I'm not referring to immigrants, but to the general "me,me,me" and "i want it now culture." Which is at odds with
  7. I honestly think there will be about 25mil to spend in the summer, and AS could be what we need to persuade MO to stay. He'd have a decent squad to work with and as for the system, i do believe MA and DL have realised there mistakes. Wise could not undermine AS ever, so it would be a good way to establish and maintain DW role at the club and limit him to just searching for players and watching the one's AS would suggest. I think its possible tbh. Oh, I thought you were talking about him taking over at Newcastle How can you be so relentlessly optimistic. What makes you think that MA and DL have learnt their lessons. They've said a few potentially positive things in their first public statements for about 5 months. It would have to take clear evidence of positive ACTIONS over the next year or so before I even began to think they had realised their mistakes. I only think you must be a masochist, and deliberately set yourself up for huge disappointments. Either that, or you can only remember things over about 2 weeks. Optimism is a good quality to have, and I wish I was more optimistic with regards to Newcastle. But there has to be a point where optimism becomes pathologically delusional
  8. Probably cutting off Newcastle united's head and body to spite NUSC's nose tbh would have preferred roeder tbh The worst of all possible scenarios. Are they determined to get us relegated?
  9. Millions of Muslims around the world drink. Are you muslim Parky? What are your thoughts on these muslims who sew their daughters minges up till they get married? No. Barbaric. I always presumed you were. The moral is never presume. Or as one of my really annoying teachers used to say ASSUME makes an ASS of U and ME, boy! Stevie - are you Christian/of another religious persuasion? Just wondering because I'm always curious whether people who belittle other religions, are religious themselves or atheist/agnostic/humanist. Am often amazed at some of the horrendous non-tolerant views espoused by religious people (be they muslim/christian/jew), and a lot of your views echo the ones that I love (and get scared) reading on the dailymail website, mainly of the ilk "this used to be great britain," and "this is a christian country," and "would this be happening if it was a muslim" I think religion had a key role in the past, and played its part in improving society. But we're past that point, and it only hinders society now. It makes me sad that many people have to use a fear of a judgement day, to encourage them to do more good things than bad.... why not just because its what being a good member of society is about Don't see the point of being prejudiced against people based on race, religion, height, weight, football club, etc as there are plenty of very sound people who I get on with who are very different to me, and plenty of cunts who move around in the same social groups. Its not the 1950s anymore. We live in a multicultural world where people of different cultures live in your village/town/city; the internet/satellite tv means we are exposed to so many other people's views and have a much greater understanding of life in other parts of the world; and people can pretty easily (providing on where you live) hop on a plane and spend time immersed in a different culture. People are cunts or sound regardless of whether they are black, white, blue, green, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, A.N.Other, etc, etc. Answer me this Stevie (or anyone really), what say did you have in being born White and in Newcastle. None at all. Its all chance, and ridiculous odds. You should be grateful for what you have, and enjoy life, rather than have such bigotted and prejudiced views. Similar point applies to football clubs. I'm assuming (ass,u,me,etc) you're very proud of being a die hard Geordie having supported them through thin and marginally thicker. They're your club because they're your local club. But you didn't choose to be born in Newcastle. You could easily have been born in Birmingham. What then? Do you take the same role and support your local club which happen to be a boring "nothing club" (in your constant criticisms of them) in Aston Villa, do you go and become an out-of-towner (which you also seem to hate) Newcastle fan because you identify more with the culture, do you pick a random football club, or do you just not get involved in football. Chance (or God if people believe in him/her/it) has dictated that you were born in whatever year as a white newcastle fan... it could easily have dictated that that the person we affectionately know as Stevie was born to a Pakistani mum and dad 20 years ago in an Aston Villa section of Birmingham. Its worth thinking about that sort of thing before espousing ridiculous views of broad parts of society. By all means have a go at that Pakistani, that Muslim, that Nigerian who had done something to wrong you but only an incredibly stupid person would broadly have a go at all Pakistanis, Muslims, Nigerians, etc. I'm sure you don't hate all white men based on the number of convicted paedophiles/rapists who are White, Caucasian, and of a similar age group to whatever you might be. Basically I'm Cuntist - prejudiced against people who act like cunts regardless of their other definable appearances/qualities, everyone else is fine until they act like cunts. The world would be a much better place if everyone was Cuntist End of rant
  10. Confirmed http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/fe...d-premierleague that our premiership hopes lie with the man who looked like he was shitting himself every game before JFK took over, and the man who single handedly saved nottingham forest from the drop by being sacked..... 1 top flight win between them, away to the mighty west brom
  11. 5 live reckon hughton in charge to the end of the season. guardian says hughton + calderwood, with ashley to turn to venables if all goes tits up http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/fe...d-premierleague wow, one tense victory against a poor west brom team, and we've forgotten the horrendous pre-JFK period. Granted the circumstances are different, but still... courtesy of everyone's favourite guardianista: would have preferred roeder tbh
  12. The Shearer factor is a fair point, but I think its simplifying things too much. If you have a look through the season after shearer left (http://nufc.com/html/2006-07html/fixtures.html), we had a terrible start to the season but recovered to be having another good year until the Alkmaar 2nd leg fiasco. After that we never got going again and only (how we'd love it now) finished in 13th, 5 points clear of relegation Also, in terms of spending in the transfer market, he only brought in oba for 10 million (ostensibly a replacement for the injured michael owen and has been a divisive signing), and duff for 5 million (who has been a shite signing, and apparently for some bizarre reason, we are still paying for now.... he must have a £100k/shite performance clause or something), and gained back 7 million. I think the horribleness of the last 3 years is giving me rose and nostalgia-tinted glasses, but the stats don't bear things as horrendous as I remember them at the time. I think everyone agrees he was out of depth by the end, but he wasn't the unmitigated failure that I felt he was then. Plus, as I said, as a man capable of short term boost who may be keen to come to the club, I think he's worth a crack. I'd love someone more charismatic, more successful, refers to themselves with the pronoun 'I', but who's going to come here who ticks the boxes I don't agree with you over him doing a good job after Souness, I'm firmly of the belief that the decent spell at that time was more to do with Shearer helping him out - it wasn't until he went it alone that it started to go down hill.
  13. Glenn not getting that much love. How about if he is head coach, and this guy gets rid of Wise and become D.O.F New DOF btw, I still think Glenn is a decent shout
  14. Really, from afar (apart from when he was at newcastle) it seems that every job he has taken, he has had a positive impact for a year or so, before things have gone wrong. I think he is about as good a candidate as we can expect, and he'd only be here for 3 months, before either being said goodbye to, or getting a backroom post (which I don't think would be a bad thing). My only fear is that Ashley/Llambias would see him as the ideal cheap manager to build a "5 year plan" around, and we'd be back to where we were pre-Big Sam. The alternatives are a bunch of expensive people who've not been in a premiership job ever (or for many years), young managers who've never been tested at the top level (inc. a wise/poyet partnership of whatever form), or people who keep their barge pole hidden away so it won't accidentally touch the club. Roeder for the toon!!!!
  15. Andy O'Brien - broke his nose 3 times in one (champions league, I think) match. plus it gives me an excuse to post one of my favourite footy pics
  16. Well its a potentially outrageous shout, and I'm almost certain it wouldn't happen, but I just wonder whether big Glenn could be the perfect man to get us to the end of the season and keep us up. Now, I think we've all learnt that he's not full time manager material, but to be fair to him, he did a canny job following Souness, and his problems didn't begin until he started to get everyone fit again, he was responsible for bringing in players, and he began only using the 3rd person. On the pluses, he clearly holds newcastle dear to his heart, he's not been out of the game for ages, he's free and available and would be cheap for a manager, and he has had a few seasons of previous premiership experience (admittedly ranging from very good - very bad). I think he seems to be a decent enough coach, especially with the young-uns, and we could do will all the potential coaches at our disposal. He even got Shola looking like a striker!! He should never have been given the job permanently last time, but if he was to be a stopgap (and only a stopgap) to the end of the season, I can't think of many more suitable people who would come to the club as it is Have I gone completely insane? (and if you say yes, suggest a better, more realistic choice)
  17. Eh? Apart from Wise, we seem to have noone in the backroom staff who should be pulling in anything like that money. I'd bank on us having the least expensive (in terms of worth and number) coaching staff in the prem
  18. Would guarantee shola being at the club for life tbh
  19. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle5703731.ece http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle5700624.ece http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/busi...icle5627266.ece for someone who's worth -£200 million according to JFK, he's sniffing around things he shouldn't be
  20. tbh I havent found anywhere yet, I dont want it to be some big charity that wont notice it, will chase it today and dins somewhere. Fake charity website taking a bit longer to set up than you'd hoped PP? You wouldnt believe mate, absolute mare. should just register "hitzfeld for the toon" as a charity, put the £65 to building a golf course just outside the club shop. then you wouldn't have to build a new website tbh I havent found anywhere yet, I dont want it to be some big charity that wont notice it, will chase it today and dins somewhere. Bushfire Victims in Melbourne, Australia TBH. http://www.redcross.org.au/vic/services_em...appeal-2009.htm All of the money given will be used, none will go to administrative costs etc. "Red Cross will not deduct any funds from this appeal for administration costs. All funds received will be kept in a Trust Fund set up by the Victorian Government." The death toll is expected to climb over 200 soon, some believe the final toll will be more than 300. Almost 1,000 houses lost. great shout, and a fantastic cause, but they have already raised $30 million (i'd assume australian dollars), so not exactly the small, local cause pud is looking for. However, no excuse for everyone not to donate something off our own backs. Also, baggio should send a letter/email/bedsheet protest to St James outlining that backing Ashley cost him the £65, and see if Ashley would match the donation (or heaven forbid, make a slightly larger donation).........
  21. Had a spare day last week so gave this a go on my updated and "pimped" cm 01/02 (pretty much everything has been updated, apart from the transfer window). Because I only really had a day, went for an extreme version where wasn't allowed to play anyone except for englishmen from the very start, and had to transfer list and accept first offers from the very start Was a case of too much, too soon, and could only really get in substandard players. Only picked up about 10 points from the 1st 15 or so games. Conceded a lot of goals from set pieces, and would only create a couple of chances most games. Think my team at the end was something like: Harper Hibbert Edgar/ Paul Robinson (millwall) Taylor S Paul Robinson (west brom) Routledge Barton (suspended most of the time in charge)/Mark Davies Guthrie Etherington Bent D Owen Did consider a team of Paul Robinsons, but was sacked before I could turn my dream into reality Still managed to beat Spurs 3-0 - at least some things never change!! p.s. if anyone wants to know how to play a pimped up cm 01/02 (before the split, and before the 2D match engine), I'll point you in the right direction. Much better for some rapid pick up and play than the more recent ones, but obviously less immersive
  22. Would reply with something witty, but wouldn't want to become a self-fulfilling prophecy (...or did I just do that)
  23. Would be an interesting experiment to see Taylor and Bassong together for a few games, but its too risky where we are. Whilst colly is the better defender, his lack of pace and aerial ability means that think for some of the more long ball/physical teams, we might be better off with them. To be honest, Taylor isn't actually a gulf of class below the majority of the rest of the team, I think its more that he should be one of the better players in a relegation threatened team. Not sure we're really in a position to turn our nose up at him, and he's a decent squad player... just could have been so much more But his performance definitely was not Team of the Week level.
