  1. Short term showcase for the name my arse.
  2. It is warmer, definitely. You don't get that icy blast you used to get. I also have an OCD reaction in that he we ever fuck up big style or the opposition have a chance they really should have put away I shout 'shit the bed.'
  3. Mick Quinn missed it. I remember because he looked across to the stand where I was just before he took it and I was convinced he was looking at me. He wasn't like, but being 9 you're naive as fuck.
  4. Thing is, if I do cop a kid near us I will make a mental note to try and curb it, but it never works like that. A combination of passion and drink mean I'm unable to stop myself. It's almost like tourettes when I go to the game. Spending the day on the drink with my mates and going to the game tends to bring out the potty mouth in me, I'm always getting telt off when I get home as I ask the Mrs is she wants 'a fucking take out?'
  5. The problem you had when it all got good in the 90s and the all seater kicked in is that groups who went together got split up. I used to go in a big group as a kid with my dad and his mates when we used to be in the Milburn Paddock (when I started anyway). They then moved the Milburn Stand seating, then got moved to where we are now, but on those two moves we all got split up. I think the signing section up in the gods was excellent, a catalyst for starting the rest of the ground singing. Why the club got rid of it nobody knows (well, it's to do with the protest songs probably). When I was first taken my old man said one thing to me; there's going to be a lot of swearing son..the rule is this; you don't repeat it in front of adults outside of the ground and you don't tell your mam.
  6. I don't think Gateshead was ever a serious one like. It was more just John Hall's reaction to Castle Leazes getting stuck in the bureaucratic mire as Stevie says. Aye, it was done more out of spite and as a threat to the city council. Empty threat in the end like. Would have been an interesting move, ultimately we would only have been moving yards from SJP which meant it wouldn't have been as traumatic or a logistical pain in the arse. Not sure what role the Freeman had in this, as Castle Leazes was there property irrc. I'm sure under the Freedom of Information Act you could get the plans submitted from the local authority.
  7. SJH started buying up local teams to make what he called a 'sporting club.' He bought South Gosforth Rugby Club and renamed them the Newcastle Falcons, started the Newcastle Eagles basketball team, and then controversially bought the Durham Wasps which he re branded the Newcastle Cobras. The plan was they would all play out of a revamped SJP. Would have been interesting if it had happened.
  8. Anyone catch any of the Australian A-League? Newcastle Jets forward line is Michael Bridges and Francis Jeffers. That's more immobile than my 5-a-side team.
  9. So why do you think they didn't build a new stdium on Castle Leazes, and are you glad they went down the re-development route instead? It was because 12 dog walkers did a made up petition iirc. They were at the monument trying to get names. The plan was to build the new ground on Castle Leazes and then SJP would become a sporting arena; Rugby, Basketball, Ice Hockey. It was Sir John's big dream. I remember that when it was kicking off about Castle Leazes he was threatening to take the club to Gateshead.
  10. We def hear more mackem accents at the game, since we got promoted actually. Maybe we've just got more round us. The reason I notice this, and I apologise to any County Durham born fans we have, is that I hate the mackem accent. It really grates on me. It just sounds like our accent gone way wrong.
  11. I remember when Bull was getting in the England squad and they came up to our place. It was 0-0 at half time and my old man was telling everyone that Bull looked shit and there was no way he should go to Italia 90. He came out and scored 4 second half. Cunt indeed.
  12. The new ground was literally going to be next door on Castle Leazes..I did a feasibility study on it for my A-Level Business assignment! (geektastic) As an aside, me and my mate have noticed that there seems to be a large influx of mackem/county Durham accents at the match these days, we've had three behind us the last few games with really broad mackem twangs. Anyone else noticed this?
  13. I know he's had a lot of stick from other teams in the league saying he's had far more to spend in that division than other sides and with that type of investment they should be pissing the league. Don't know the stats like. All I can think of is that he's had a bit of stick from the board/owner and he's told them to fuck off and stick their job. Maybe.
  14. I'd kind of miss him if he wasn't here though. Just like I hate the fact refs are so inconsistent yet I love the fact they are and we can have a rant and debate about it. If they brought in video evidence during games I'd be happy and gutted at the same time.
  15. Last thing I'm worried about is our bowling attack to be honest. It's the batting that went to shit on this tour. Proper old skool top and middle order collapse.
  16. Co-workers who constantly complain about everyone and everything all the time yet do fuck all about it. Put up or shut up.
  17. Barclay keeping his job then I assume. Twat!
  18. We have to do the same to be tutors. £68 to an organisation that do fuck all apart from send me a pretty piss poor newsletter 4 times a year.
  19. I got bought the above when it first came out when I was a young un, runs to 1990. I think it's class and a great way for kids to find out about the history. It's basically a big comic book and I've kept a hold of it as I'm going to give it to the bairn.
  20. I purchased a pair of clippers a few years ago as my hair has always been shit so I was just going to the hairdressers and getting it all shaved off anyway. My Mrs used to just shave it, but when she was heavily pregnant and since the bairn was born I've been going back to a hairdressers in Wallsend I pass on the way home. I would try to clip it myself, but I'm so cackhanded I'd only end up making a right arse of it.
  21. I have to say like, I've never liked Redknapp. I think part of the problem is that he's always been massively onside with the gutter press, which makes me suspicious of the twat. I said this on twitter yesterday, but it doesn't matter who is in charge of England as we'll win fuck all as long as the gutter press and the inept FA continue to run the team between them. As much as I was far from convinced that England would do anything under Capello, it does leave a sour taste in the mouth they way he's left. The FA's half arsed and half baked cop out decision to only strip the captaincy from Terry but let him play at the Euros means it's neither something or nowt..we're kind of saying he's guilt6y but we're kind of not. As for the press, they've been unable to hide the fact that they dislike the nasty foreigner put in charge and he should leave to be replaced by a glorious Englishman. Never mind the fact that his win percentage record is good and England sailed through the qualifiers. Total double standards and xenophobia from the press. They've been far too obsessed with him not being English. I'm no Capello fan by the way, but I think this has been a little bit of a witch hunt.
  22. Cracking midfield and forward line but suspect at centre half imo.
  23. If the CPS thought there was enough evidence for a trial, then there was enough evidence for a trial. Found not guilty, fine, good for him, he cleared his name in court, but it wasn't a waste of time.
  24. Cross the bridge into Spittal, I've watched us on the tele there before. Avoid eye contact with the locals though.
