when was the last time we had two quality centre back?
PaddockLad replied to Dr Gloom's topic in Newcastle Forum
Agree about Bramble. We called him "black Bobby Moore" A lot of weeks he was man of the match. Then we'd be on the box and he'd fall over his shoelaces or miss an easy clearance or something and the nation would think he was utterly fuckin useless. -
1934: Southampton have also confirmed that three of Nigel Adkins' coaches have been released as Mauricio Pochettino looks to finalise the make up of his backroom staff. Assistant manager Dean Wilkins and first-team coaches Andy Crosby and Jim Stannard have left the club. They have been replaced by Jesus Perez, Miguel D'Agostino and Toni Jimenez respectively. All three coaches worked with Pochettino during his time in charge of Espanyol.

Born in Hampstead, London in 1935, he directed films including Scorpio and Death Wish. He was also famous for his barbed restaurant reviews, written for The Sunday Times under the banner "Winner's Dinners". Winner had been ill for some time. Last summer, he said liver specialists had given him 18 months to live. Paying tribute to her husband, Mrs Winner said in a statement: "Michael was a wonderful man, brilliant, funny and generous. "A light has gone out in my life." Winner began his career as a journalist and film critic before joining Motion Pictures Limited as a writer and editor in 1956. His first work as a director was satirical but he became more well known for his action films, especially the violent Death Wish series, starring Charles Bronson. In later years, he also directed a series of commercials for an insurance company featuring the catchphrase "calm, down dear!" Two years ago, Prime Minister David Cameron was criticised for addressing the line to a female colleague in the House Of Commons during a debate on the NHS. For his entry in the 2012 edition of Who's Who, the director listed his interests as "eating, being difficult, making table mats, washing silk shirts" and "doing Pilates badly".

he wouldnt have been if he hadnt let Derby fuckin county take 4 points off us. I think Pardew is toast without 3 points at Villa. I'm trying to think of a manager on a similar run who had the dubious pleasure of taking his club down at the end of the season....doesnt happen nowadays.- 10610 replies

There may have been more to it than that....there was a ruck after they got beat off Sweden. We dont know what else has gone on. He chose not to renew his contract. I certainly wouldnt suggest it had no baring on his decision, but I doubt if any manager worth his salt would turn a job down because there was a player at the club he hadnt got on with in the past. If he was offered it. Which he won't be...probably- 10610 replies

So they had a tiff at the world cup?....have you had a row with your boss at work?...do you think that stops managers from taking jobs/players being able to play for managers they dont get on with?...it has done, and a lot of it is well publicised. But most people are a bit "meh" about their bosses. HBA is off to PSG in the summer anyway- 10610 replies

Theyd been down in the second divi for a fair while when they got promoted and finished in an uefa cup spot...signed Finidi George that summer and got relegated. Not been back. So we'll see. WBA and the mackems have been up and down like a hoors drawers for most of the last decade iirc...Wolves, Brum etc...- 10610 replies

Glen Roeder and Peter Jackson Andy Thorn came in and we went down. Nowt to do with selling Gazza..honest... -
I was making a general point about Ashley & co's policy in general...if he's taking money for Best and Lovenkrands, not replacing them and then taking gambles on complete unknowns from the French second division like Amatifano, it tells its own story on the pitch. Its the opposite of development, its taken us backwards. Youre right, Amaltifano barely made the bench v Brighton Abeid has had his chsnces and not taken them We need them for the squad though because the first XI hasnt been strengthened properly.
-
No, I mean Ashley wont spend enough money to build the squad in general. We didnt have a proven premier league standard player on the bench on Saturday bar Steven Taylor and he is returning from long term injury. Are you beginning to see the problem?

PaddockLad replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
Has Ashley changed from the bloke who had four managers in the last relegation season? Being pretty ruthless with Hughton was another gamble. 0 points from the next 3 games is going to make Pardews possition untenable iyam. Don't know myself, flip of a coin. Would a new manager bring in 17-20 points?...looking at it like that its difficult to see Pardew acheiveing it.- 10610 replies

So who do we replace them with in the squad?....we havent replaced Best or Lovenkrands yet. Not sure about Abeid, he's had two or three opputunities now over 18 months and he's not done much. Ashley is running a tight financial ship though, so am sure all will be fine...
