  1. People are DIGGing this story so much that Alternet is running like a dog, but here's the link... http://blogs.alternet.org/oleoleolson/2010...digg-uncovered/ These volunteer organizations are sorta like using contractors in business or government- they don't have to play by the same rules you're beholden to, and its an extra layer of blame if it all goes bad when the lights come on. That Digg stuff and the items (Yahoo's Buzz, etc.) like it are one of those things I just don't get- I understand that news is all about ratings now like any other network show, but it creeps me out to know that a few people with Nielsen boxes, or in this case, an army of people willing to Digg articles or whatever is controlling the media. I mean, its obviously not an ideal situation when something like 6 companies control it, but somehow it's worse when it's a bunch of pissed off volunteer lapdogs eagerly seeking scraps from their masters' table.
  2. Is it really newsworthy that the "Muslim world" is pissed off at Obama's handling of Pakistan/ Israel? FFS, that's like asking a Mackem what they think of Hughton's handling of NUFC.
  3. Hate to admit it, but we played a game a lot like this all summer in 1993 when me and my friends were all around college/ late high school age. Great fun but did induce some paranoia.
  4. Your ma spreads like butter. Bitch can't keep her legs open. Now, see, I would think closed would be what you were aiming for there, but it might be a little like the "out of in there" business from earlier...
  5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Cav...eBron_James_Era In May 2009, QSL Sports of Hong Kong fronted by Kenny Huang bought a 15% stake in the franhise.[3] On June 25, 2009, 4-time NBA Champion and 15-time All-Star center Shaquille O'Neal was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Cavaliers. The trade sent Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to Phoenix along with the 46th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and $500,000 in cash considerations.[8] Isn't that like saying Phil Anschutz doesn't own the Galaxy, AEG does? The American sports journalist i was listening to on 5 live the other day tried to dampen that rumour... http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010...billionaire-but Ah, interesting. Not to sound totally ignorant, but I have to admit I was wondering how a citizen of a communist country could conceivably become a billionaire.
  6. <------ Secretly knows that when he finally gets to see a match at SJP, he will not be able to understand anyone he meets from the boards here and will be doing a lot of nodding and saying, "What? Oh right! Yeah!"

  8. This deal is really bothering me, enless amounts of cash as they have. Huang owns 20-30% of an NBA team too (Cleveland Cavaliers I think?) if I remember right.
  9. Does it though? I don't know his mind, but I'd be kicking down MA's doors on a regular basis asking for cash. We literally are 2/3 good players away from being a decent side which makes this close season the more frustrating. I wonder if he's afraid of screwing up the chemistry? I know how that sounds, but the last season NUFC was up, it was painfully obvious that most of that starting XI weren't trying and didn't play well together. The current (or prospective, anyway) XI may not play all that well, but at least they play well together as a unit. The matches I watched last year (competition level being lower obviously), we looked much more like a side that's played a few games together. Could be that Hughton knows there isn't much money to be had anyway, but when coupled with the fact that the XI are more of an actual side than they've been since the middle of the 08-09 season, maybe he just doesn't want to take a chance on screwing it up bringing in some possible head case.
  10. Really, REALLY close, but not quite... EDIT: I'm heading home for the evening and probably won't be back on for awhile. Whoever guesses correctly, feel free to carry on without my approval. Don't want to hold the game up!
  11. Sweet! How about this one- Good... bad... I'm the guy with the gun.
  12. Mad Max isn't it? Wasn't aware the first film had 2 names. The second one was called Mad Max II/Road Warrior I believe. Yes it was Mad Max and my bad it was mad max 2 that was released as the road warrior. Don't know the other quote I'm afraid, though I guess as I guessed right it's my turn to set one. "They all have husbands and wives and children and houses and dogs, and, you know, they've all made themselves a part of something and they can talk about what they do. What am I gonna say? "I killed the president of Paraguay with a fork. How've you been?" " Oh, and btw, everybody should feel free to ignore Kevin and his blatant disregard for the structure of the game. Grosse Pointe Blank?
  13. This is my first year for fantasy football and as you probably guessed, American Mag and Tooner are part of the league, so I don't want to comment too much. I've done various fantasy sports for a long time, but never football. In general though, you're on the right track- counter intuitive as it might seem, you're generally better off having several superstars and the rest of the roster be filler than having a lot of decent guys at all positions. Sounds like you had the same experience last season!
  14. I took Barton and have him as a sub for that reason- on the off chance he turns up, at 4.5 he's a relative bargain. If not, no harm. I tell ya who I thought could be a real sleeper is Jose Enrique at 4.0. I grabbed him up with the way that defense scores points in fantasy. isn't it all to do with clean sheets and goals and assists? we surely won't keep many clean sheets and jose has only got one goal in 3 seasons iirc. what else do they get points for? i assume you're in the official online premier league game... Yeah. I'm in the official one. You really don't think we'll keep many clean sheets this season? Obviously it's unlikely we will against good teams, but against WBA, Stoke, etc.? When playing at home? Again- not a sure thing by any stretch, but for 4.5? I'll take a chance putting Enrique on the bench. He's got offensive potential too.
  15. I took Barton and have him as a sub for that reason- on the off chance he really does turn up, at 4.5 he's a relative bargain. If not, no harm. I tell ya who I thought could be a real sleeper is Jose Enrique at 4.5. I grabbed him up with the way that defense scores points in fantasy. That could be a better risky bet than Barton, IMO. EDIT: American Mag and Tooner- disregard please!
  16. So I should just blindly support bullshit wars, bullshit bailouts, and bullshit self-serving politicians because of where I was born? I think that's infinitely more pathetic. EDIT: And for the record, what am I implying in this thread other than 1) the government collects tons of data on us already- they just don't know what to do with it, and 2) the average everyday run of the mill American isn't going to jump up and try to stop a plane hijacking pre-9/11. What's pathetic and pandering about that? Christ, it's way more pathetic to think that everyone who stepped on a plane regardless of experience, physical prowess, cunning or whatever could and would stop an in-flight hijacking like they were in an action movie. This is real-life, man. People generally do what they're told. They stop at red lights even when no other traffic is coming. They wait in line instead of rushing up to the counter, and if armed terrorists tell you to stay in your seats or they'll kill you, they'll do that. My point about office people is that maybe, maybe if the plane were filled with people who regularly operate outside of societal bounds (that is, again- special forces/ military, firefighters, cops, etc.), they might not have listened, but office people most likely will listen as that's the world they live in. I don't know what's so difficult to understand about that.
  17. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2006...y_theory_1.html Cheers. Back on my original horse then of the government doesn't need to collect personal info as they already collect enough data on the "bad guys" to get them identified, etc. etc. And Parky, if you don't think four guys could take over a plane in 18 minutes, you severely overestimate the average American airline passenger's intestinal fortitude/ underestimate the power of shouted commands by scary brown people with box cutters prior to 9/11. These were cubicle dwelling stooges for the most part on another business trip- not special forces or hell even firefighters. These were people who for the most part did exactly what they've been told to do for God knows how long in their lives. I'm not mad at them, but being mad at people like that for not fighting back is like being mad at a lesbian for not wanting to kiss you- it's just not in their nature. And you are different how? Good job for the hijackers that you weren't on the plane, eh? Then all those months of planning would've just gone tits up. Where did I say I was any different? Point is- it's foolish to think that a bunch of regular people are suddenly going to risk life and limb in a hijacking situation, pre- 9/11. Nowdays, sure, I'm sure a lot of people would jump them knowing that you're probably going to die anyway, but at that time, I don't think there had ever really been a hijacking in the US- at least not one in the air that I can recall.
  18. Is it from The Ladykillers?

  20. Wow. Color me misinformed! Don't know how I managed to miss that one... must have been all the flag-waving and ribbon tying everyone was doing around then. Anyhizzle- still supports my point, just from a different angle. We don't need the government compiling terabytes and terabytes of data on us only to get us innocents mixed up with would-be hijackers.
  21. What hijackers!!? Half of them are alive and well and living in various places like Dubai, Saudi and Hamburg. Huh? I think this is going over my head. I mean the guys that took over the planes on 9/11. All of them were on watch lists of some kind or another and it resulted in diddly shit from the US government was my point.
  22. The problem I have with all this kind of thing is this: the FBI and CIA already had files on all of the 9/11 hijackers. The problem isn't this government's ability to not know what's going on, the problem is they don't play nicely with each other and don't know what to do with this information once they have it. Locks on the cockpit doors and building those doors out of something a little more sturdy could have prevented 9/11. I'm just saying.
  23. Effin a, I can't find it now and I'm done searching. The stupidest football post I ever made involved my confusing and annoying propensity to sometimes get people's names mixed up (I do it with hockey players too). I made what was a somewhat insightful post (for me at least) about Bassong and totally shot it all to hell by referencing N'Zogbia instead. Stupidest General Chat post I made was in response to some fat American woman video on here that everyone was making fun of. I was having a shitty day and went off saying that I hated being compared to people like the one in the video when no one at all had accused me of being like the woman in the video, and even I have to admit, there are probably a lot more Americans like the woman in the video than me. Make of that what you will.
  24. I think this might be at least part of the reason I love Kill Bill Vol. 2 so much- I hear the music and get filled with nostalgia of watching The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly with my pops back in the day. Brilliant film. When that fancy re-release came out in around 2004 or 2005, I got it for my father-in-law for Father's Day. We watched it immediately, then went to the range and shot cowboy guns. Great film, great memories.
  25. Awesome man! I worked in an arcade when I was going to college. I'd love to get my hands on the PCBs for an arcade Killer Instinct machine. I check eBay every once in awhile, but haven't seen any reasonably since about 2002. I'd love to have an Addams Family pinball machine too. Best pinball machine ever IYAM.
