Initially I lived in and supported Gateshead when they played in the 3rd Div.North but had a change of loyalty when I shook the hand of Jackie Milburn. I was a member of the BBC Boys Club on Gladstone Ave. and for a reason I can't remember Milburn came to visit the Club and I was smitten. All the boys were clamouring to get near him and shake his hand, not all of them did, but I did and from that day forward Gateshead FC took a back seat. I think it was in 1946 when I was 13 and despite the fact I went to sea as an engineer when I was 21 then years later immigrated to California my love and support for the Lads has never faltered, and never will.

I think Carroll's rawness can probably be attributed to not having enough playing time with the big lads and lack of good striker coaching. He has shown he can be good in the air, has shown good touches on the ball, and has shown he's not afraid to get stuck in which is what you like to see in a centre-forward. I think with good coaching he could be our next No.9

Lovenkrands the first to go? I don't think so, I think any player on loan for the season will be the first to go followd by those who want away and can find a buyer.

I thought putting Ameobe on when you have Jonas & Smith on the bench was like throwing in the towel. I thought we didn't do too bad in the 1st half and the flukey goal was unfortunate for us. I thought the 2nd half was a miserable display. I thought the 2nd half should have seen 10 men playing with urgency & desperation to save us from the drop, I thought wrong!! I thought Duff was doing alright at left-back but faded from view when he moved to midfield. I thought if Enrique was fit enough to come on as a sub he was fit enough to start. I thought it was another discouraging display by the team as a whole. Other results all went in our favour except ours didn't; all we needed was one point and it was there to be grabbed. I think the players we would like to stay, won't. I think the players we would like to leave, won't. Disallusion, sadness, discouragement, and anger, are only some of the feelings I have right now.

I dunno, will you? I hope you're not offering... NO mon ami, rest assured, certainly not offering.

The only salvation I see is Hull losing their last game and us managing a draw in our last game and with fatalistic thoughts I can't see this happening. Too many historical signs of us being unable to punch our way out of a wet paper bag. The goal we had disallowed today should have stood, when Viduka's head made contact with the ball Nolan was nowhere near the keeper. There had been pushing and shoving in the goalmouth from both sides but when the ball came in Swartzer wasn't being impeded, but that's life in Newcastle isn't it. The goal they scored was a classic example of how bad we are, and have been, in our inability to defend in a workmanlike manner.

He was shown twice on the Setanta viewing I was watching.

Got to keep an eye on West Brom now, 3 points today puts the bottom three all even with 31 but we've got a game in hand but so does the Boro. God, bless us in this time of trouble. Buddha, bless us in this time of trouble. Allah, bless us in this time of trouble. Have I missed anyone?

I'll settle for the same again next year no matter what if we do stay up. Courtesy of the Fox Soccer Channel and Setanta I have seen every home and away match for the past 2 seasons. If we go down this comes to an abrupt end cos Championship games are not on the TV menus in California. Setanta USA shows some championship games but you can bet it won't be Newcastle every time. Selfish I know but we have got to stay up or my TV support group will come to an abrupt end. shame you're missing all of that which the board you despised gave you in the first place. Whatever. I'm sure you wouldn't be one of the 25000 attracted back to the club by the Halls and Shepherd that are now fucking off again. Here he is again, that pathetic, pedantic, egotistical, self-adoring LeasesMaggot who seems to have forgot that the last time he questioned old Noelie he was literally torn apart and beaten back to the midden. I have NEVER said I despised any board at anytime since I became an ardent supporter in the late 40's (that's 1940's in case you didn't know). And as for your remark about 25,000, tut-tut, hard to be attracted back by anyone at anytime when you've never left anyway. Do yourself a favour LM, get the help I said you needed.

The TV commentator I was listening to had it right when he said Newcastle were toothless. The opportunities to score a winning goal were there but it was painful to watch them being missed. First half belonged to us but if you're not going to score it's pointless, unless they don't score either and you get one when you need three. Towards the end I thought Pompey were going to pull one out of the bag as we were abysmal at keeping the ball. How many times have we seen Enrique boot the ball too long and to no one? Martins was woefull, so was Owen, and Colo? well he looked as if he didn't want the ball and Bassong kept giving it to him. In the first half I thought maybe we can pull this off, but as the game progressed my hopes faded. I've convinced myself we don't have a snowballs chance to stay up now.

Always realistic leaning towards being optomistic but as of right now realistic feelings are being pessimistic. I think if we lose on Monday it's bye-bye Premiership hello Championship. Quite frankly, since Shearer's arrival I've seen no real change in our overall performence on the field.
-
I must admit that my faith in Shearer took a little downward turn when he started Amoeba and left Spiderman on the bench. I would have thought Shearer would have started Carroll after his showing in the reserve match and scoring 2 goals. If you were like me, you must have been elated by all the positive stuff in the newspapers and expected a far better show that we were subjected to for best part of the game. I am grateful for the point although it hasn't helped our cause and now the Boro is up our arse with their win. I honestly expected us to come out of the starting blocks today as though we meant to win the relay but from the start it looked like we had left the baton in the tunnel. Harper didn't look that good even though he made a couple of saves. Dropping Colo was a good thing because of his declining form but the defence were still like a sieve with enlarged holes. Nolan, was he playing today? Butt? but what can I say about him. Amoeba should not have started, the first or the second half. The game changed dramatically when Jonas and Carroll were brought into play, we could have knicked it even if we didn't deserve it.

Official Match thread: Newcastle United Vs Arsenal

For Fucks Sake! How long do you think we'll be in the lower division? High marks to Martins for missing the penalty. High marks to the ones who let him take it. High marks to all the lads who played well in the 1st half and self-destructed in the 2nd. High marks to Ashley for allowing Keegan to get away. High marks to anyone who thinks we'd be in this predicament if Keegan was still here. High marks to Hughton for realizing that when you are 3 - 1 down and time is running out the right thing to do is put the energetic, dynamic, work-horse Amoeba into the fray to save us. -
Game came on late today and here's my comments. (1) I trust someone is searching for a new manager to replace Kinnear & Hughton. (2) Anyone with half a brain would have started the team that played pretty well against Man.U. (3) Reeks of madness when Duff, Lovenkrands, Amoeba, and Carroll are on the bench and its the Stroller who comes on. (4) Is it me who's mad when I think R Taylor shoud have started, not Geremi. (5) First half was pathetic. (6) Second half was a little less pathetic. (7) Jonas, Geremi, and Martins missed brilliant chances that wor lass would have put away. (8) Colo was like a top, a 5 year old could have turned him. (9) We start to look like we could win when it's too fucking late. (10) Never felt like this before; but after not getting 3 points today I now have a feeling we are going to go down unless a miracle is bestowed upon us.

You're right, but they're completely different players. Martins uses his pace and power, where-as Owen is a smarter player positioning himself in the right places to score. I'd take Martins athleticism and power with Owen's positioning, first touch and finishing. Neither of their injury records thanks. Even though they're both short they could work well together IMO. Martins troubles defenders when he's on the ball as he can pull a shot off from nothing, from just about any distance. Owen is a better player when he's off the ball, except when he's putting the final touch in for a goal/shot of course. Pretty much agree with what's been said, Martins is only good when he's on the ball and does very little off it. Owen does track back and does put tackles in and make good runs off the ball. Martins ratio of good chances missed far exceeds Owens. Todays game was heartbreaking in the sense it was probably the best performence of the season and we didn't get a point because of Raylors faux pas. Heartbreaking to realize that we can put on a decent performence but just not often enough. Heartbreaking to realize that such a good performence was done without Beye, Butt, Guthrie, Owen, Viduka, Barton, Duff, and Noble. I would have been totally heartbroken if Amoeba had started again, did someone finally get the message.

On account of the height he could jump and head the ball with great accuracy, The Mighty Wyn, my all time hero, great man and very humble. Wyn Davies scored another goal, Wyn Davies scored another goal. He's gonna jump up, Nod 'em in, Score another goal. Wyn Davies scored another goal.

Can't someone over there make team selection easier for Hughton by kidnapping Amoeba and putting him on a slow boat to China to be used as ballast
-
Happy with 5 - 10 million in the summer. Hughton and Calderwood doing a good job. Staff morale good. Player morale good. Working for each other. Llambi-ass is full o' PR shite!! D'ye think he knows it's points that are needed to keep us up and not PR shite and summer spending.

Say what you like but I think the asst. manager is as stupid as the manager when it comes to Ameobe. With Loverkrands, Martins, Smith, and Viduka available Ameobe would be at the bottom of my pecking order. And furthermore, when you are down to 10 men for the entire 2nd half Ameobe is not the kind of player I would want on the pitch, I would want someone who would work like he knew we were down to 10 men. Hughton was Kinnearesque in his starting eleven and substitutions Of all the scoring chances on both sides the one Lovenkrands missed was the easiest, simplest, and best and perhaps would have won the game for us.

Former Mag, Alan Suddick, in critical condition
Noelie replied to dbsweeney's topic in Newcastle Forum
Can't remember against who but I do remember that during one of his games for us he ran behind a defensive wall and pulled down the shorts of one of their defenders. There was a photo in the newspaper of the bloke with his shorts down but Suddick had moved so fast he wasn't in the picture. Wasn't he from Chester le Street? -
I can understand Given being unhappy with the situation that exists at SJP, who isn't. I can't blame him for wanting to leave because of it but his comments in his press interview makes me think it's all about money. He gave me the impression that Newcastle could have got him to stay if they had made more of an effort. But what did he mean, promises about Europe, silverware, new players, new direction, new anything, but would the offer of an increase in wages and extended contract been his solution. After all, he'll be obviously getting a bigger weekly pay-packet at Man.City and he'll get a share of the transfer fee. I admire Given for the stalwart service he has given in his long tenure with us. I admire Given for persistantly praising our supporters, but I have to question whether he would have stayed had he been offered more money. I've been in shitty jobs, with shitty management, shitty conditions, and shitty environment, but had stayed because the money was far from shitty, and to even mention leaving often meant more money to stay. So what was Shay's real bottom-line reason for leaving, he hasn't gone to a top 6 team challenging for honours.
