For 30 or 40 years now people have been told that the only measure of worth is wealth and material possessions so if you combine that with areas where it is harder to work hard and get out you're going to get opportunistic resentment. I don't know what the answer is - you could point to the 50s where people did swallow the "work hard and be useful" line more but there was less of a flaunting of riches then there is now which is another factor. Having said all that there is an underlying feeling that people willing to loot so readily are pretty much scum but even a leftie like me has always been aware of that problem when speaking up for deprived areas. I've always argued that you can be working class and "decent" being proud of my background but its becoming harder.

I saw one article headline which said "they feel like they have nothing to lose" - sad but true for too many of them. No excuse caveat of course.

I put the hate most one which is honest but at the same time on different days I could tick any of the others - they are all true to a certain degree. In the spirit of comradeship, Stevie, I got a caution when I was 16 for swearing too loud at Central Station (at a mate) but the copper wasn't a Mackem which I suppose shows more of a "All coppers are cunts" correlation rather than "all Mackems are cunts".

Yes - first league match post-sacking I think and I don't think Allardyce would have done better given it was his so called game plan Pearson used but my point was more that a shit team was heading for a lot of defeats even if he'd stayed minus the Keegan factor which won through in the end. We were going down under Fat Sam; we were 8th when he left but we had picked up lucky points and had been dog shite. I can't recall all the games and can't be bothered to look but I do remember an awful game against Wigan which we won late on with an Owen goal. It was about the 4th game we'd drawn or won having been complete rubbish. The run of fixtures in the new year which Keegan obviously had to pick up was horrific - Man U twice, Liverpool away, Arsenal etc etc - I know we didn't actually get any points from them with KK but at least there were some green shoots which then emerged when we played lesser teams - games Allardyce would have done a Derby for.

I'd say I'm a multiculturalist monolinguist - I don't mind semi-isolated communities but the language thing is about respect. Just checked the Virgin website for 100mb progress and it says available now - they haven't upgraded me automatically for the first time since I got them in - the bastards. Off to investigate.

There's no proper throttling on 50Mb - there used to be serious fucking about on 20Mb but it stopped at the upgrade which was about 2 years ago for me.
