It';s a tough call as at my most fundamental I'd love to see indoctrination of kids banned but unfortunately if its an important issue for parents then its unworkable - we either need to rely on gradual reduction in "fervour" or have a cut-off point like removing all kids from their parents for one generation . One of the worrying developments in the UK is of course faith schools - even if people are faking it to gain entry, its still a link to the churches - it goes without saying I'd abolish them.

I think as long as you question things then it's fine - I think catholicism can provide a good moral grounding but when I think of the stuff I now reject I think the morality I now have is just through good parenting. I guess if you're not lucky in that respect then a religious framework could provide what's missing. My dad was nominally protestant but I'm not sure he believed in God - but he did think morality can only come from religion (which I don't accept) which was why he was happy for my Mam to raise me as a catholic. I think he was a good enough man in his own right to raise me regardless of which church I went to. You mention a mix in England - I do know that my parents had quite a bit of hassle from both sides (CofE + catholic) when they married in 1946 - another area where I think things have improved for the better in modern times. On abortion I support choice but at the same time I think its a nasty business we could and should do without - by getting rid of the need for it I mean.

I think that's a misconception - not that we're animals but that what you refer to as survival of the fittest which is actually survival of those who are the best at reproducing. Primates of which we are one are social animals - humanity has thrived through building communities. Of course conflict can then arise between communities but the basic need to want to belong is something we shouldn't knock. That can work wrongly in the sense of nationalism or even in religious gang forming but I think ideally I'd like to see our community forming instinct to be globalised and not just for trade. I think on that score however, Sci-Fi probably has it right - it will take either the conquest of space or contact with other life to bring about a true worldwide community.

Raised a catholic - doubts surfaced as I hit teens - sort of hung on for a couple of years from not wanting to hurt my Mam's feelings and when I told her she call me an idiot (nicely) for not being honest. Now I entertain the notion of a Deist "creator" but feel its unlikely and am vehemently against the man-made organised control regimes that blight the world. I accept what I see as the human weakness in wanting to have something post death and don't knock that need but the dogma and irrational beliefs like creationism drive me absolutely mental. Prefer Hitchens - nastier with more alcohol around.

Suggesting that they will go back for the same targets in the summer suggests two things: 1. Wise et al are really in charge of transfers a la supposed structure which makes "Every manager has had the players he's wanted" a complete lie. 2. Operation aside, they are assuming/have planned for Kinnear being manager next season
-
If Allah wanted every human to be Muslim then why did he create alcohol?

Just read today's Journal part and it's worse than the chron one. £38m net - fuck right off you lying piece of shit.
-
Yeah despite my dislike of him as a manager that's exactly how I feel.
-
On the contrary - they may be a little ignorant but at the same time I'd say every Yank I've ever met has been as friendly as fuck and I can't think of any cuntism whatsoever.

Good players usually get good wages though - you still have to take that gamble to a certain extent. A few Bassongs are fair enough but paired with Ameobis we're fucked.

Medicine, Science and Maths would cease to exist with Islam, am I right? Partially true - the pisser is that during the dark ages when Europe was under the heel of catholic stupidity, Islam led the world in these things but then seemed to give up overnight as politics changed. A good way of putting it recently I read was that even though broadly christian people are the fathers of physics and biology and Muslims could be said to be the creators of major aspects of medicine and algebra, those subjects are areligious - ie they stand up to universal scrutiny rather than bollocks like creationism. If I can follow your "reich" lead I wouldn't ban churches or mosques but I'd certainly go with the French secular education ideals.

Reading that has made me completely change my mind and I'm now 100% behind the regime. Right.

I know its a cliche but the Yanks don't get accents at all - when I was there a few years ago with some mates the overriding assumption was that we were German - we just "couldn't" be English according to quite a few people.

A criminally underused VW VR6.

Again being the operative word - a case in point for the Ashley brown tonguers who cry "administration" - not that this represents ignoring Shepherd had us in deep shit. I'm not saying their situation is good or anything but the notion that Ashley's debt free model is the only way to go is wrong imo.

A mate of mine heard his new contract was on less than his current (35k >> 20k) - I took this as another sign of championship contingency planning and Shola thinking he'll be the main man next year. As for replacing him, there must be some fucker playing for a local pub team who is better.
-
One of the biggest signs of the demise of NUFC was him being offered a new contract - after finally almost getting rid of him but for a failed medical the prospect of him "playing" for us for the next 3 years drives me to absolute despair. I'm not exaggerating for effect BTW.
-
Same as last week - two teams trying to out-shit each other. Lovenkands was a big plus - somebody bright, sharp and with half a football brain.
-
Having seen a bit if this and a bit of Boro I think theres only one place available - there may be hope yet. (Apart from Shola Playing of course)

Everythings just about clear near me now but Nationals Express East Anglia are already altering services for tomorrow based on the BBC forecast - I hate to say it but after Monday's debacle, I'm not going to put much effort in travelling if they start cancelling trains again.
-
I have a fine example in my collection called Midnight Librarians.
-
If they do change, I'd be astonished if it wasn't a brand that Ashley owns being the replacement.

Brings a lump to my throat for exactly the reasons Stevie wrote about. O' Brien went for the presumed classic "Are you happy now?" type remark to the cunt after the 4th goal.
