I can just imagine you putting something on Mammynet "Is it safe to come to Ireland, do you still have snakes? Is potato still legal currency? What language do you speak? Do I need a shot to protect me from "blarny"?

Honestly thinking along the same lines. It's fucking Cork, not Aleppo!

Nor is it West Belfast in the 1970s!

If you do pluck up the courage to visit the War Zone CT, it’s vital you ingratiate yourself with the locals.
Buy a Guinness top hat, dress like a leprechaun, adopt a terrible attempt at the accent, and tell them jokes…

… “How many potatoes does it take to kill an Irishman?

None!”

etc.

I’d look for Airb&b in Divis Tower as a base.

Super friendly place.

If you avoid places that don’t like the English you’ll be severely restricting your choices tbh ;)

I’ve only been to the north but the people are absolutely class (with usual caveat that you get twats everywhere). It’s very like the north east in some ways I found. And I would absolutely love to see the west coast of Ireland

Get yourself wearing some 'Just Stop Oil' clobber and have a wander down Shankill Road. 2nd week of July is always a good time for it.

Serious question, would people go to Ireland for a holiday? I was thinking of it this summer, started researching , and some of the answers were very dodgy

I took a couple of mates over in the 90s to stay at relatives for a testimonial match and they loved it, like Bilbao we literally couldn't buy a drink in the bar my aunt's then hubby took us to, they took my pals to local game the following day and offered to let them go to to Portugal for a Northern Ireland match on an already booked trip a few months down the line, travel, hotel and tickets gratis, they'd just have to get to Belfast and have drinking money. Take the troubles away and the majority are/were great people. :good:(and pissheeds).

I used to go out with a lass from over there and always enjoyed visiting. This is the North as well. Her mam lived in Bangor and her family were all great too. Belfast feels a lot like Newcastle, I always thought.

Her uncle was a prison guard in the Maze Prison which must have been interesting.

So was my aunt's ex. Dog handler. He took us in their NAAFI there when it was still open, very cheap booze and no queue for a game of Jimmy juker plus if there was a breakout while we were there we had a snooker cue to hit them with. :good:Also took me in the crumlin road prison NAAFI as well on another occasion 'for something to do*'

*Cheap booze

So earlier in the week, you were looking for advice for your wife's birthday with a couple of days' notice.  Now you are asking about recommendations for the past? :)

It was quality, Ripley. And it looked fucking brilliant too.

Fuck off, it wouldn’t have been just as good in colour. And any fucker who wants to watch black and white so badly can just turn there colour off

How often do you say to Mrs G “why don’t we turn the colour off tonight love”? She would rightly think you were off your tree.
