Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is understood to have been assured there will be money to spend in January.

The Chronicle understands that transfer funds will still be made available to Pardew after the Magpies despite a revelation last week that any “marquee” signing would have put the club into their overdraft.

Pardew is keen to move on from the transfer window and is delighted with his side’s start after United climbed to their highest Premier League position in 12 months by beating Aston Villa. But there is still concern among the United faithful that the current squad won’t be able to cope with an injury crisis between now and January.

Newcastle didn’t spend any of the £60m TV revenue in the summer, but it is believed that a new year will result in a fresh cash injection from Pardew’s board now that 2013’s transfer dealings are behind the club.

And it appears that Newcastle’s January spending spree was one of the main factors why United did not feel they needed to up their bids for transfer targets in the summer months, despite offers for Demba Ba and Bafetimbi Gomis plus an enquiry for Florian Thauvin, who eventually joined Marseille.

Pardew is trying to focus on the team he has got right now.

And when asked about future recruits, he told the Chronicle: “We will have plenty of time to talk about transfers leading up to January. I don’t want to affect our fans any more than they have been affected. “I know they are disappointed, but our team still carries a threat.”

United’s scouting network are already scouring the European scene for fresh targets while emphasis will remain on English talent during the winter.

Pardew is a big fan of Blackpool’s Thomas Ince, while Leeds United youngster Sam Byram is also a player the club are aware of.

During the aftermath of the transfer window it has emerged that Pardew did indeed have money to spend but opted against a range of deals that he didn’t feel were right for the Magpies.

However, it is thought that another striker to challenge the likes of Papiss Cisse, Loic Remy and Yoan Gouffran is on the agenda when the window reopens, depending on whether Pardew’s priorities change between now and then.

Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis has vowed to stay in France until the end of the season, but the Ligue 1 club may want to cash in on him before he is able to leave on a free transfer.

For now Pardew is happy with the way competition is building up in his squad and was in the stands at St James’ Park on Monday night for the reserve team’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

The second string fielded a team that included seven players that have appeared in the first team, and the majority of them are likely to be in the squad for next week’s League Cup tie with Leeds United at St James’ Park.

Pardew’s big dilemma ahead of Saturday’s home game with Hull City is whether to start with Cheick Tiote or keep faith with Vurnon Anita.

The Dutch midfielder has not let anybody down in recent weeks but Tiote has the edge on him in terms of seniority.

Newcastle are also assessing Shola Ameobi’s fitness this week after he picked up a knock on international duty with Nigeria.

But Pardew will see if he is fit enough for a place on the bench against Hull City.

UNITED still have tickets left on public sale for the home game with City.

But it is expected that unlike their last home clash there won’t be almost 6,000 empty seats at St James’ Park.

Hull will bring with them a stronger following than the Cottagers and two wins on the spin have already generated extra ticket sales with Saturday’s win at Aston Villa capturing the imagination of some stay-away fans.

It's just so poorly put together

Some of those quotes are over a week old. Slow news day.

You're not wrong. You'd have thought on quite days like this, those at the Chronicle would be able to come up with something better than this, then you remember who writes for the Chronicle and you're just amazed they didn't seriously hurt themselves as they head-butted this article into being.

ALAN Pardew says he’s still unsure of his strongest Newcastle United starting XI – despite finding a winning combination.

Newcastle face Hull City at St James’s Park tomorrow looking to make their best start to a season since the 2000/01 campaign.

Pardew’s side have won their last two games – against Aston Villa and Fulham – and lie eighth in the Premier League table.

But Pardew feels his team will evolve further over the coming weeks and months.

And he isn’t yet certain of his strongest starting XI – despite the attacking fluency and defensive solidity shown in the last two games.

“I think this year – more so than when we finished fifth – it’s going to be difficult in the next four or five weeks for our fans to decide what our best team is,” Pardew told the Gazette.

“There are really close lines this year.

“For example Cheik (Tiote) and (Vurnon) Anita are closer in terms of competition, (Paul) Dummett and (Davide) Santon are, Jonas (Gutierrez) and Sammy (Ameobi) are, and (Yoan) Gouffran, (Loic) Remy and Papiss (Demba Cisse) too

“At the minute, we might be comfortable with the team, but it can evolve still.

“I know it will make for a good debate for our fans in the pub.

“Hopefully, it’s a debate where people can think we can improve the team rather than change things in order for us to get out of trouble.

“That’s how it was last year.

“It was, how we going to get out of this, or how will we score goals? Now it’s about what will get us the win or the draw.”

tbf, he's putting pressure on the starters and letting them know they need to keep performing or they'll lose their place.

and also given the younger players the hope that they can break intot he 1st team if they continue to work hard.

No this is Machiavellian PR tricks. Pardew spent the summer reading Alastair Campbell's All In The Mind and this is textbook 'how to an excuse a transfer window stuff'.

He's scared of the home crowd. Tiote should have come on for cabaye. Keep the same shape. We had no midfield and resorted to hoofing.

Would have started Tiote in place of Cabaye who has been shit for ages now. Him and his pal Debuachery both need dropping. Think Debuchy feels defending is boring or summink..Played right mif most of the game with a huge hole behind him practically the whole game. Anita is a far more productive player on current form.

We dropped off them as we started to lose the psychological battle and you could see they were shitting it when Hull started their antics..
