That's why you have to pay top whack though.

You can hope that a cheap deal does the job. But your season could be fucked come January and then you're buying from a position of desperation.

We are desperate. Mike needs to drop £20m plus to get a finisher and it's apparent that his fat fingers can't fish that much out from behind his sofa.

Before someone accuses me of 2 game knee jerking, the last 5 months of last season was the most consistent period of dross I can recall. I've seen nothing yet to infer any notable improvement. Pardew's tactics stink and he's incapable of improvement as he's already red lining his meagre abilities.

Buy a proven goalscorer Mike, stop being a dick.

Spot on. I have no faith in Pardew or his tactics to turn around a slump that goes back far into last season, new players I know but the problem is Pardew is basically going to be relying on pieces of individual brilliance from Cabella, De Jong and Sissoko rather than a working system. Riviere looks like a lad who wants a strike partner tbh, he's big, powerful and brave in the air but he hasn't appeared to be thriving in his isolated role in the albeit small sample of games so far, De Jong will probably come in and help him a bit in that respect but it'd be better if there was a pure finisher like Ba alongside him.

I don't have much fear of us getting relegated really, I think we'll grind out enough close results to keep us in and around mid table and it'll be as enthralling as it sounds.

We've been trying to sell Cisse for months now till he got injured...Turkish and Russian sides were alerted iirc.

Riviere and that other bloke from Ukraine might be it for us till Jan...

Ashley is such a gimp...We need one decent CD and a tier one striker and it will be a season to look forward to...He won't pay the 20m for a proven Tier 1 striker and that's that.

I did read somewhere we're interested in Dawson.

Danish press is reporting, that Carr was in Copenhagen last week, to look at Andreas Cornelius. There is potential in him, but he is no where ready for the PL, and he is not on form, after coming back from Cardiff.

He looked complete rubbish last season so it's probably on.

He was a very competent striker in the Danish league, and did get a couple of run outs for the national team, but there is still a massive leap up to the PL. But he seems to have become even more shit, after coming back from Cardif

5 match ticket deal for the home games immediately following the closure of the transfer window, as well as being in talks re: lifting the ban of the local press. You'd be forgiven for thinking they're bracing themselves for a little bit of criticism over the next couple of weeks or so.

I doubt anyone high up at the club will give it a second thought.

Alan Pardew;

“I do remember not so long ago, all of us talking very highly about Papiss and whether we could keep him.

“With Papiss there’s a possibility he could score a lot of goals in this team – so I wouldn’t write him off by any stretch of the imagination.

“He us about two weeks away from starting training, so he is not far away, that is something that seems to have been forgotten about.

“If we are going to bring a player in then they have to be better and above Riviere and Papiss, otherwise there’s no point.

“You look at those transfers; Jordan Rhodes, McCormack and Shane Long, and you look at the prices, I don’t think we’d have done those three transfers.

“He (Cisse) had two or three chances a game and he fluffed his lines a little bit, but he probably needs more than that, top strikers do need more than that – I would never put off the fact that he can come again – and come again here.”

Looks like thats the road we're going down relying on Cisse as our main striker.

He seemed to be being touted to all-comers 12 months or so ago. Since then he's had a few injury setbacks and only scored 4 competitive goals (2 league goals including a penalty) and he's going to be the main man.

Progress.

top strikers probably need more than three chances? think that means they're not a top striker

A new low for Pardews nonsense.

Not so long ago also is actually 2 years, since then Cisse hasn't managed double figures in the league. Hes a spent force.

Rhodes/Long etc we clearly wouldn't do but prices are inflating due to clubs having more money thanks to the TV deals, we haven't altered our spending pattern up in the slightest in line with that while others have, prices go up over time, our willingness to spend on an individual doesn't, a top striker is a 20 million pound player at least, we have that to spend, we won't spend it.

More chances needed to score = better striker

He didn't have 2 or 3 chances a game and fluff his lines, he had 2 or 3 chances a game and never looked like scoring, hes missed sitter after sitter over the last couple of years.

Papiss Cisse is no longer a premier league striker worth playing if you need goals and he won't be unless there is a big coaching change that manages to drag some form back out of him which our current setup is not capable of providing

The other thing is Cisse didn't get that many clear cut chances during his dry spell. Top striker means 1 in 2 Alan.

Riviere looking at him looks a 1 in 3/4. He won't get 4 chances a game in many games, maybe the 3 home games against struggling sides ie Palace etc...

Chron pumping some story about a new bid for Remy shows the lack of real determination to get a striker...

Pardew is towing the party line.

There's no way he believe we can go into season with two Forwards. It's a numbers game and that's what Ashley has told him to say.

Ridiculous when you think how much money is lying there from TV & Wonga. Cisse's 2 weeks away roughly, then they've to get him match fit, then he'll need time to gel with the rest of the team, then we have to hope he can score goals.
