Im far more bothered that no one can seem to get "black and white stripes" on a home shirt correct than I am about the badge.

It wont be an eyesore because modern design isnt really interesting enough to produce an eyesore so it'll be reyt.

Don't know if this is a recent amendment, but the NUFC wiki page now states the club was formed in 1881

I think someone on here recently said that the 1892 figure was only invented so we could sell a load of centenary tat back in 92. A bit before my time.

1892 is the year Newcastle  East End  took over the lease of Newcastle West End’s ground at Leazes Park and East End’s name was changed to Newcastle United. West End ceased to exist after that. East End were founded as Stanley FC in Byker in 1881 which would appear to be the true founding date of the club we see today. This has been pointed out a few times recently by people who wish to appear clever on the internet/football history fascists. Don’t particularly remember lots of 1892 tat being produced, only the failed share offer :)

1881 is the correct date but officially it was 1882. They officially changed the name in late 1891 iirc but again, officially it was classed as 1892. I've a programme from the 80s and the club is founded in 1882 on that and also some NUFC picture I had as a kid. The first I'd heard the club mention 1892 as the official line was in 1992 which was an excuse for something to shout about for a club in the 2nd division. I did think the pre season tournament that year between us, Boro, Real Sociedad and Sporting was something to do with it but that was called the 'Newcastle Exhibition super challenge cup' apparently? I do recall a few people scratching their heads, me included at the 1892 figure because as stated, it was officially classed as 1882.

I'm pretty traditional about this. I grew up with the current crest. It's the one I like and it represents me. I wish they wouldn't change it, but I understand how this works. And how changing times work.

It's difficult for certain IT places to integrate the current crest because it has too many details.

That said, it's funny to see how most teams now have very simple round crests... That look similar to our crest from 1976-1983.

P.S.: Atlético de Madrid changed their crest in 2017 (the owners never asked the members)... But people never accepted it. They fought to get it back, and based on the rejection and the drop in sales because no one was buying anything with the new crest, they had to go back to the old one this year.

Arsenal, Brighton, Chelsea, Leicester, City, Man United, Wolves... All teams 've rounded off the badges and even put a circle around them, like our previous shield.

Aye. If the parameters are "needs to be a circle" and "needs to be less intricate" then just modernise this one.

I like that ours has a unique shape that draws your eye to it, I'd prefer if we avoided going to a generic round shape but if we went that way it would make sense to bring elements from the older round badge we had. Perhaps we could incorporate the striped shield from our current strip for some continuity.

Didn’t Castore manage to get the (very simple) Wolves badge upside down for actual players’ match day shirts? Or did I just imagine that?
