In a way, I still feel for him. If you look at the timing of his fiasco around this it's clear that our complete inability to land anyone at all has had an impact on this. The lad wants to compete and kick on but can't see Newcastle getting there quickly enough - and if that is his view, he's fucking right about how this summer has gone. We've been shambolic. Was just after we failed on Ekitike I think that he pulled the trigger on the whole thing. Ekitike maybe not our fault tbh, but the others? Pedro it sounds like got Mitchell'd, Trafford got Mitchell'd,  Mbuemo we didn't even bother in the end, Delap we were slow... we have been absolute shit and I really suspect he's just had enough of waiting for the mismanagement at the top to get its act together.

 

Ultimately the whole thing just shows that Howe isn't enough - no manager, no matter how good, would be enough. We need the commercials to compete for these names in the paypacket or we just aren't ever going to make it.

After reading  Liverpools  announcement that they are "dropping out" of bidding for Isak, I see that they have dropped their interest in players before, the sneaky underhand bastards

If he's not sold I have every confidence he will be able to refocus on trying to get back to his best personal performance. It's the type of personality he appears to have. What I'm not so sure of is whether he will be treated the same by the player group and the supporters. Of course we're not privy to the exact way in which events have transpired, and what has been said behind closed doors so we're being 'informed' by objective-laden media and tight lipped comments from Howe.

I can't see him refusing to turn up next week, preseason stuff is one thing but the club have to some extent sanctioned him not coming along.

Training for the proper season to begin is different. Liverpools bid is so far off what even their pet journos have been briefing it would take to get the deal done that I think this is it for this summer. They're not planning to actually get him this summer, its groundwork for it to happen next year.

 

I see the following things happening from now.

Isak returns to the club, trains and doesn't start until September after the window closes.

He sacks his agents and ends up with an agency that actually deals with superstars. There is PR about him being poorly advised through the summer.

 

He signs a new deal in mid september or october on improved wages with an actual release clause in it.

 

He has a good season once hes back in the team, especially in the CL, has a good world cup after which Robert Lewandowski retires and he goes to Barcelona

There's some suggestion that the players are trying to talk him down, which suggests bridges aren't fully burned yet. Also some nutjobs have noted there's a private jet chartered to fly from Sociedad to Newcastle tomorrow..

I can’t see the club putting out the conciliatory spin of him being badly advised without Howe’s explicit approval. 
 

I hope he’s put in against the WP’s and we fucking hammmer them. 
 

I also hope, as I said a while back, that the numpty element of our crowd don’t even think about giving him any grief. 
 

We need to hit the ground running this season, and mount a credible challenge for title*, to show him ( and others in the squad), that we aren’t here just to make up the numbers. 

 

 

*I’d have laughed in my own face at this idea not too long ago, but Mr. Howe continues to piss on low expectations and timelines- we actually won a fucking cup last season!

I think this has all been carefully choreographed by LFC. They've tapped him up and agreed personal terms long ago. They're prepared to pay 120 mill but not 150. So they wait until late in the window after having advised Izak to go on strike. Then they put in lowball bid, Izak tells club he will not play for them again and will take the club to court to get contract annulled rather than put on a black and white shirt. After he's gone nuclear LFC come back at end of the window and say okay we'll give you 120 mill final offer. At that point we have the choice between a player on strike or 120 mill. Carefully briefed media up in arms about us being unreasonable bullies etc etc

There is less than 0 chance that this will happen.

I dont think we've been outplayed as if liverpool are some machiavellian force of nature at all.

I think they've tapped Isak up illegally, Isak himself has been terribly advised, they've paid a fortune out to "journalists" to brief constantly to the public that Isak is desperate to leave thinking that Isaks actions would lower the price and then they've come into the room with their dicks in hand and been told to fuck off.

I genuinely think our unwillingness to play along when they put int their insult of an offer has taken them by surprise. Everyone else they've dealt with this summer has played along, we haven't.

They've "We're liverpeeeel football club lah?"'d themselves into a corner. If we do get Isak to agree a new deal with a release clause they're fucked next summer because there will be a public price for one of the best players in the world and there will be more than just themselves trying to sign him.
