They've really latched on to this "British record" fee haven't they?

I've been thinking that. I don't really understand why we should give a fuck if it's a British record fee or not.

British record thing is being mentioned so it appears we’re being unreasonable if we tell Liverpool to fuck right off. Or even if we don’t offer signs of encouragement so Liverpool can go about making the initial preparations ahead of readying their record breaking bid

We simply can’t let him go without getting two strikers of sufficient quality. Can all of this really happen with less than a week of the window to go?

If he's not willing to sign a contract and Liverpool come forward with a £130m offer, if be saying to him that if hands in a transfer request he can go for £130m otherwise the valuation is the valuation and any less than £150m he will stay and be fined until he returns to training and playing.

tbh if we accept 130m now from Liverpool and pay Isak a loyalty bonus, without an adequate replacement, we've allowed them both to treat us like complete idiots and get away with it. This has all been about Liverpool forcing a sale on their terms and getting a discount, and fucking us over in the process. It'd be mission accomplished, I really hope we're not that stupid.

It won't be about being stupid in the end though, it'll be weighing up the cost of the two outcomes in the balance and picking the lesser evil. I hope the idea of keeping him is the lesser evil, but it might not be in the club's eyes.

I take your point of course, all very sensible, but it's stupid to me. We'll have allowed ourselves to be victimised by Liverpool, and Isak and his agent. It provides a road map for every player that wants to force a move to a bigger club on their terms. I'm not the club's CFO so I don't care about the money, for me it's about pride

Letting him go before the deadline makes zero sense. We’d have been better off engaging with Liverpool 4 weeks again and negotiating a deal. Can’t even argue the delay is to sign someone cos we haven’t!

Selling him results in the actions of the player, his agent and his potential future employers looking vindicated. We’d look like fucking idiots.

He stays beyond September 1st for me -

if for nothing else to see how he handles having to choose whether to strike for half a World Cup year, or back down.

I was just coming on to post that. Comparing it to striking workers standing up for themselves too btw.

https://www.football365.com/news/mediawatch-isak-strike-excused-newcastle-liverpool-fraud popped up on my feed last week. At least he's consistent. Only about other clubs players.

Slovenia, the Walter the Softy of the ex-Yugos? They're more likely to take him on a healthy hill walk

They voted to cede from the Yugoslav union in 1990 but didn't get involved in much afters. Not for them a grubby 8 year conflict despite their democratic actions basically causing it

Bruno has said in an interview with ESPN that we miss Isak and need him back.  Door being held wide open for reintegration by both manager and captain now

Bruno holding out the olive branch is massive for me. Was thinking about it earlier, in particular his follow up Instagram post to Isak's one. If Isak does want to fall back in, he needs the captain on side. I wasn't sure he'd fully have it so this is pleasing to read.

i thought the same about bruno's instagram post after isak's statement. i suspect some of the players might be less sympathetic towards isak's position than others but this could mean they have been told to fall in line and that he is indeed going to be reintegrated.

Bruno chatting and making nice with Isak while Osula quietly gets down on all fours directly behind him. One push, Isak hits the deck, and the boots coming flying in, all of them shouting "alreet wor kid" every time they land a blow.

Good old fashioned Geordie Justice.
