Pre Season Friendlies

It's preseason but the defending has been a concern so far. Seems like teams might be looking to exploit our lack of pace at the back give they won't get much joy physically or in the air.

Ok, calm down. We've not yet played our first choice back line.

I thought that but also thought that Pope made a massive difference when he came in for Dubs. He was a signing that I did not understand at the time but the full back line seem so much more switched on and his sweeping seems to make the difference to those balls that come through making up for some of the pace.

Heading to the match now, absolutely buzzing. Can’t wait to give that lovely “fight and win!” ditty recommended by HMHM an airing, so be sure to listen for it. :D

Imagine how buzzing you will be if you run into Adam P!

Marvellous, enjoy. I’m jealous!

Video evidence of abysmal chants required.

Barnes is looking very good. Our best player so far. It's like night and day between him and ASM given how direct he is. He only has one thought when he gets the ball, and it's what's the shortest way to goal.

You can see why he scores as many as he does, he won't die wondering.

As much as it is frustrating to not see us play our strongest team once, it has to be good for the squad harmony to mix it up like this and give peripheral players a good run out and experience in playing in our first team system. Entirely what pre-seasons should be about.

Targett getting back on their counter is faster than I thought, we'll need that sort of cover this season more than ever.

Two more goals from Anderson, he's having spme tournament. Lewis Miley also looking quality in his late cameo.

Yeah, Miley and Anderson are going to save us a shit ton of money. Miley oozes class on the ball, and Anderson has shades of Rooney about him with how aggressive he is and his strength on the ball.

Hope reporting that Howe said in his post match comments that, when they got all the players back and ran all the fitness and strength tests, Anderson was "by some distance" the most impressive performer. Which isn't gonna do him any harm with a bloke like Howe.

Would be great to see him given a real chance this season.

Anderson is class like, his close control is really good and he made good runs most the night. Miley looks like a real player as well, looking forward to seeing the two of them develop this season.

From the first half and the level of snarkiness on display from our side, it reiterates what I love about this team the most -- and it's been present since shortly after Howe took over: we are never nice. Howe is friendly off the pitch, thoughtful, measured, polite, etc., and the players mirror that approach in press conferences, etc. But on the pitch that shit can get to fuck because we're going out there to win. I love it. It's what sport is about.

It's a point about this side that burns even brighter as its exact opposite is reflected at the moment in the Ashes where both teams are obsessed with what the public thinks about them to the detriment of their performance. England's sanctimoniousness as the self-appointed Messiah sent to save Test cricket in the kenotic self-sacrifice of defeat. Then, Australia with a side that has lost its mongrel in a pathetic attempt to impersonate south-English gentlemanliness and repent for sandpapering a ball like they're the first to invent ball-tampering. It's pathetic.

Bring on NUFC. A team for winners.

So long to a summer of displays of weakness masked as moral superiority. These are beneath Newcastle United. Fuck the accusations of skullduggery from losers obsessed with the 'spirit of the game' or some other mackem-minded bullshit that losers spout as a consolation they award themselves in lieu of material success.

We're going to fly high this season. Bring it on.

(Brought to you by several afternoon scotches.)

Standard :huff:

Was Anderson playing centre forward by the end or were we countering with him  just out pacing the Brighton defenders?  🤔

Wonder if we’ve got another Grealish situation on our hands? Scotland  play England at Hampden on Sept 12, on that form Ando is Scotland captain for the next decade   🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 😏

Lascelles and Dummett shouldn't be near the pitch as players. Is Howe playing them to prove a point to the board? Lascelles absolutely static a few times and just ball watching. Dummett Wtf was he doing for their goal?
