Certainly saw evidence of it the little he did play. Surprisingly pacey too. Wonder what sort of state he'll be in after a year of not playing. strawb 4169
I think Hall was/will be signed with a view to the future (mind blowing I know). I think him and Livramento are with a view to a different system in mind than we have currently. Mainly due to Schar’s lack of pace. Long term I expect hall and tino to be attacking fullbacks, again mind blowing. With Sven, a faster player alongside him, Bruno/a n other sitting deep, it allows us to have three at the back centrally rather than from a wide position. Gives us more threat from wide (deep) and the wingers can get more central and hopefully score more goals allowing isak to drop deeper where he is immense. But I am just an overweight 39 year smoggy, I don’t know shit.
The Fish 10659
2 hours ago, Holden McGroin said: yeah. You need a much better technical midifeld than ours to do that. We give the ball away too much at the moment. That might change with a midfield of Big Joe/Bruno/Tonali and a worldie at right wing. You also need a sweeper keeper.

Obviously if we bought a 'proper' DM Bruno would play more as an 8. But until then he's the best we've got in that position

Lacks the physical presence (as does Bruno though) but has all the other attributes. Probably not something we’re likely to see happen with all the other options in midfield when everyone’s fit

Toonpack 9103
I like this bit: “I believe in myself and the gaffer has told me all the qualities I have. It’s about doing it consistently, with the right attitude, and always staying grounded.” If anyone starts acting billy big bollocks, ship them out for me. I suspect a certain porcelain #9 has a touch of that tbh.

This made me chuckle Quote Tactically and technically, you have to be superb and know exactly what he (Howe) wants you to do. That's on the training pitch. Its ok if you're a jigsaw though and go to bit out on the pitch come Saturday.
Gemmill 44090
Pretty clear why we picked this lad up last summer now. Only 19 man. Tino as well. Full back positions sorted for the next 5+ years.

Not necessarily a “number 6” in our “single pivot” 4-3-3 formation who will just sit and protect the back four while starting off attacks from deep. Does he have the positional discipline to sit deep on his own and fill the gaping hole we’ve often seen between our defence and midfield this season? I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s why Howe bought him, or whether he was planning to change the system. What I do know is this could be this decade’s great Hugo Viana debate

I don’t know if that’s why Howe bought him, or whether he was planning to change the system. What I do know is this could be this decade’s great Hugo Viana debate I think that both he and Bruno play similar roles albeit in different ways. Both can defend and can evade pressure, both can get forward and create opportunities. He's not quite the out and out defensive midfield, but he's more defensive than a true blue central midfielder. He's kind of box to box but lacks the physicality you'd expect from that role. He's definitely not an attacking midfielder, but he does create chances. He's not a regista, mezzala, or carrilero, but I think the term that best describes him is Segundo Volante. https://medium.com/@moderntactics343/tactical-investigation-what-is-a-segundo-volante-2bb3491cbf5b Now, I know a lot of you absolutely fucking HATE foreign muck, but honestly read the above and I think it describes his role very well. It even references Barella who we were very much interested in, before we switched to Tonali. FWIW I think the gaping hole has more to do with Pope's absence than it is our midfield. If Pope was fit our defence would be higher up the pitch, closer to the midfield. 1
