Fwiw I was in favour of Gloom continuing. If the site's down, it doesn't count.

this sort of flattery won’t get you on the king’s new year honours list.

I’m lying, of course.

Shame the board was down cos yesterday would have been the ideal opportunity to resurrect the CBs vs RW, which is the most urgent position to be upgraded, discussion.

And I think it's clear that the CB crowd would have prevailed and out the thing to bed for a generation.

I’m now firmly in the camp that we need a both a new CB and a RW. We could have subbed Murphy and Schar at half time. I’m convinced we will add depth to both positions in the summer.

I would have put Krafth on for Trippier too tbh, just so we had some fresh legs on the right flank where we were getting killed

I mean Pat. You need to chill out fella. Let's talk after they've played City eh?

They've won 11 out of 12 tbf. And the 1 loss was against PSG.

If they keep it up then we either need to win our next 5 or hope Forest/City/Chelsea drop points

Our starting eleven is as good as villa’s but their squad is much, much better. That was clear yesterday. They changed half a side after their midweek game. We flogged the same players for the third time in a week. Three of our back four are 30+ and they looked it. I thought Schar was lucky not to be sent off, Trippier looked every one of his 34 years, Murphy, Bruno and Joe were all well off it.

Our subs aren’t helping us at all either so we really need to have games won by the 60 minute mark as there’s a massive drop off in quality late in games. Wilson is offering nothing when he comes on. Gordon hasn’t done much since coming back either.

Thank fuck we have a week to recover and prepare and we’re playing Ipswich at home next. We couldn’t have asked for a much better fixture to try to bounce back.

100%

I may be clutching at straws, but you also wonder whether having Howe more involved would have spotted some of this coming yesterday and come up with a slightly different game plan

Didn't really fancy us yesterday so that result doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Hopefully the weekly games and rest time will get us through from now till the end of the season when we MUST get some first team ready players in.

Im sure we won't need 74 points to finish top 5. There is only one of the last ten seasons where 74 wouldn't have been enough.

Forest and Chelsea are absolutely gonna drop points based on recent evidence. Yesterday was a setback, but we're still the best placed of everyone outside of Liverpool and Arsenal to make the CL.

It's Man City v Villa on Tuesday night, so someone's dropping points there.

Forest and Chelsea play on the last day of the season, so someone's dropping points there.

I'm still pretty confident we'll be fine. We've had a run of results going our way and us winning which has put us in this spot, so there was bound to be a setback at some point.

We'll get back on track v Ipswich.

If they keep it up then City are dropping 3 points on Tuesday. We just need to win our remaining home games and we'll be fine.

65 points is usually plenty. We need to beat Ipswich and Chelsea at home. Pick up points in some of the remaining games and we’ll be fine. Hopefully sealed before the Everton game. Could do with Spurs and Fulham doing us a favour today

I can 100% guarantee Spurs won’t do us a favour today.

Fulham might beat Chelsea tbf. They’re a good footballing side, as we discovered at SJP

It was less about us being shit and more about them being really good. Villa are a decent side, well coached and we found out the hard way.

shit result, but it’s done. Onto the next one.

We MCBGA supporters were always going to prevail against the MRWGA rednecks once the evidence became clear and insurmountable.

Their bench was phenomenal. Amadou Onana man. He strode on to the pitch like a fuckin collosus, had a small tete à tete in midfield with one of our goons then glided up to our 18 yard line and just casually thunderbastared the ball into the net  Although tbf even after selling that radged bastard to Saudi in January lots are saying Villa are still in PSR trouble?

Wins for Forest, Chelsea and Villa in the next few days will make it only 3 points between 3rd and 7th. That makes the whole thing interesting. Great game for us v Ipswich to fall back on. But as I said in the week the story of this season is us being in form for a few weeks then out of form for a few weeks… hopefully this is just a 3 games in 6 days blip..,

Think their wages to turnover is something over 100% (or another high number).

They have done some smart loan deals but they will have to sell again in the summer.

I prefer our way of doing it rather than taking on loans that may or may not have worked out.

Battered us yesterday like, but with Ancellotti leaving Madrid in the summer wouldn’t be surprised if they went for Good Ebening to replace him and then their good run is up in the air again

Im surprised Tindall didn’t change to a lower block after about 5 minutes. Watkins was running our slow defence ragged so we could have just dug in and hit them on the counter. They needed to win it more than us. Naive from Tindall but you can’t really blame him. He didn’t ask for the job and is doing his best.

The high press away from home is a dangerous game to play and we’ll get walloped off the better teams if we continue to use these tactics.

Some of these teams are playing each other. Villa city midweek for instance. They aren't all going to win all games and we don't need to win our next 5.

lol looks like the same as Chelsea ie the PL give them a pass but UEFA have pulled them…doubt if much will happen but it would be hilarious if them and Chelsea were banned from any UEFA competitions next season :D

Agree with much on what has been said here re this was a hiccup not totally unexpected and we just need to remember the position we are in and get back on track vs Ipswich.

Two things stood out for me:

1. Bruno set a really poor tone for me. Cranky, petulant behavior, throwing himself to the ground and then getting worked up plus giving away needless freekicks in dangerous areas. The ref was a massive arsehole no doubt but you need better from your captain.

2. A bit of squad rotation might have benefited us in hind sight. I know Tindall spoke about not changing a winning formula and Eddie has said the same in the past but this has happened to us before when despite great form we stumble purely due to lack of energy. Maybe try something different just to give yourself a chance.

The problem with that is we might not be 3rd if we'd rotated the squad.
