Mega day out High Street is so called because it’s the route of a Roman road, the track of which can still be followed. Although I think all of what was the original road itself has eroded away. High Street the summit is the highest point on the ridge which the road ran/runs along. But the summit of High Street is not on the road, the route of the road itself follows a path a bit lower down, about 10 yards lower. Fascinating, eh? Also the best way to it is up The Rigg (ridge) from Haweswater.
