The benefit is fewer attacks are stopped incorrectly. Even with the rule in place, you still see linesman occasionally raise their flag incorrectly or raise their flag at the end of the passage of play and be wrong.

I’ll let this ride with you being new to football. But every Tyne Wear derby is nerve jangling. Derby’s can so often be a complete leveller regardless of who has the “better” team.

I don't think you can blame that. Injuries happen in football matches, it's not the job of the linesman to prevent an impossible to foresee injury. There's hundreds of these no flag incidents across a season and the vast, vast majority end up fine. Unless the offside is blindingly obvious, I'm happy with them allowing play to proceed and checking it afterwards if there's a goal. There'll be WAY more attacks incorrectly halted than there would be serious injuries averted.

As I said in the other thread, they need to bin off this stupid version of the offside rule. It was so clearly offside yet they let the phase of play continue. It was only a matter of time before someone got seriously hurt in this phase of play, and so easily avoidable.

Taiwo Awoniyi had been placed in an induced coma following his collision with the post on Sunday. They need to bin off this stupid offside rule where they don’t flag immediately.
