Another one for the files...

Job hunting is horrendous in my sector currently, especially at my place of work. I've been involved in Squid game recruitment rounds the past few months, the rare opportunity that comes up has 500 applicants usually. I'm nearly always shortlisted but fall at the last hurdle, I am convinced because they already have someone in place anyway. Its taken hours of work every weekend perfecting presentations, all wasted time. Was getting panicked cos my current contract is up in March. Anyway, had an interview yesterday, went really well, but it was obvious from the start the job was already allotted. Got a call today, didn't get it. But I impressed so much they're going to give me the next role coming up in January, subject to some HR gubbins (don't worry, I keep my filth to the phone). It's the grade I need and only 14 months but gives me more time to get my feet under the table at the right level of seniority. Fingers crossed this works out, I feel a hell of a lot better than I did yesterday about things, been another very difficult year.

Had a call on Teams where they ran through the good and bad of the year before lurching into a quiz. Y'know, because what screams Festive Spirit more than a 20 strong Teams call where silhouettes mumble hurriedly googled answers. anyway, one of the questions was "How many vertical countries are there in Europe?" I listed three, Portgual, Sweden and Finland. Now, quite what precisely constitutes a 'vertical' country remains a mystery but surely we can all agree that Portugal would tick most boxes, right? No the answer was 2, Italy and the UK. wtf?

i'm a couple of episodes in and am enjoying it so far. i was wondering if danes gets typecast because she's playing exactly the same anxious character she did in homeland but then i haven't seen here in anything else.
