  1. My dad. Went over a mine in a half-track full of ammunition in Normandy 1944. They were leading the column - in said half-track and had questioned the sense of this - and his pal who was sitting 1' from my dad was killed whilst the old man got his legs smashed to fuck, his right foot turned 180* round. Prior to joining up, he was captain of the football team, cricket team and tennis team. Fucked. His right leg still has to be dressed three times a week by a nurse - my mother did it every day, but she has long gone - due to the wound. Hero? I don't think he would consider himself that at all. He never collected his medals and saw fighting the Germans as a necessity. As has been suggested, there are folk who sign up today and I am proud of them. I think if we had to face what the country faced in 1939 the majority of us would sign up without hesitation.
  2. "The side, and to the left. The side.......and to the left." [/K.Costner] I have only seen those pictures up above (this is me talking, btw, not K.Coster. In case you're confused) and the FACT! is that Tiote is winning a ball that the opposion player does not have. In all three pics, the opposition player doesn't have the ball, therfore Tiote is going for a free ball. A good challenge in my book, but I have been banging on for years about the twats at the top of our game trying to make it a non-contact sport, so I would be shocked, stunned, and not a little taken aback, if the red were recinded. Would Cheik 'ace tackler' Tiote miss the derby if the decision were down-graded to defcon yellow?? Something tells me that if he doesn't play we beat them anyway. C'monnnnn
  3. What I saw of Ranger in '09 I really liked. He seemed to have a bit of pace and a great ability to hold the ball up. I was impressed. Perhaps he has lost his way a bit, and maybe a goal would give him a great boost but I would like to think I wasn't wrong and he can make the grade someday.
  4. Mid table apologies are no good. That's why I have made this post: in an effort to get it up there near the top. Hopefully it will stay somewhere around the 5th best apology.
  5. Ah Newcastle, my Newcastle, you never fail to live up to expectations. Is there a Newcastle United fan anywhere, over the age of 16, who didn't think this result had a probability about it?? I got up this morning, saw the result, shrugged, and basically said to myself 'What a surprise. Not'. Most NUFC supporters, prior to the game, would have said 'yeah, we should beat these', but deep down they knew, knew, a shock was a distinct probability as this is Newcastle United. Any of you youngsters just setting out supporting this great club, get out or get used to it, because this is how it's gonna be ever thus. Good luck to Stevenage. After all, however painful it is, this is what the FA cup is all about. It does seem rather odd though that the meeja are lapping it up so much as I have lost count the number of times I've heard/read that we're not a big club. Look on the bright side, ESPN got what they so desperately wanted i.e. their equivalent of Hereford footage to be repeated for ever more. And there is a silver lining to this result. There will be no complacency next week when we visit the land that time forgot. Yeah, we could be beat, but the team will be up for it - big time, even more so than sunlun imo, who had a bit of a shocker yesterday themselves.
  6. Imagine the mongs and retards at every game if one player did something wrong in a game that curtailed Engurland's hopes!! Remember what the trolls were like when Beckham got sent off by that muppet Nielsen in France '98? It would be far worse if the winter wc happened as the 'evil trator' returned to playing for his club side so soon after the offence. Booooooooooo.
  7. A family from the north east have been at this for years. Their husband/father, Robert, died in 2002, but the family have been 'keeping him alive' in order to claim his senility pension - amongst other benefits. Apparently, one of the ruses the family have to fool the authorities into thinking Rob is still alive is by signing up in his name and posting on a football related message board. The authorities recently questioned the family - who claimed Rob was unavailable for questioning due to his hiking expedition in the Himalayas to wrestle yetis - but they showed them the ramblings on said message board. The authorities came to the conclusion that the posts made in Rob's name were so outlandishly obscure that the senile old duffer Rob must still be alive. Reports that a clinical psychologist, after seeing 'Rob's' posts, had commented that his condition had deteriorated remarkably are unconfirmed.
  8. Otis. Any man that can both sing and invent a lift is the tops imb.
  9. Well I've never heard a Kings of Leon track in me puff. Carry on.
  10. I see Sepp Blatter expects the Qatar world cup to be moved to the winter time. Hmmm, I'm not sure if this is good or bad, apart from it being slap bang in the middle of everyone's seasons. I suppose it will give a few folk the chance of some winter sunshine. Thoughts?
  11. :icon_lol: :icon_lol: At this thread. Class.
  12. Night Shift. Been up all night, and will be up for another 2 hours or so... Let you off then. Et moi aussi. Ha ha, 3 - 1, 3 -1, you aussi git!!! ha ha. 3 - 1. What? What?
  13. "Squeal like a pig!" (whilst banjo music is in the background) Best: "When did Xisco come on??"
  14. Don't know who you thought was implying he was no good? Certainly not me. I reckon he's a top manager but just wants out, but would very much like Abramovich to sack him.
  15. Remember the Derby chairman when we signed Paul Kitson. "You've signed a gem." He must have got his wife's jewelery from Ratners! Re Simpleon the Best: 3 swallows does not a summer make.
  16. My Eyes tbh Correct. I went to see Ultravox at City Hall last year. It was fuckin mint.
  17. Buddy Holly. In Memphis. Beach Boys. Their first ever concert. The Beatles. In the Cavern Club. I was also on the video for All You Need Is Love (sitting next to Mick Jagger). Taught Clapton to play the guitar. [/Rob W]
  18. Edit: It has to be Coyle for me. What he has done with that bunch of trolls is nothing short of miraculous. And anything that stops a lass getting pregnant is okay by me Edit: Press the right button, you thick twat hipster!!!!
  19. Am I the only chappie who thinks Holloway is a total BELL END! ?? Can't stand the fucker. He and his team have done a good job, however if they don't go down this season they will the next.
  20. Ooh, ooh, I luv a challenge. Video Killed The Radio Star by Buggles??? No? How about, Making Your Mind UP by Bucks Fizz?? No?? How about, The Floral Tune by Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band (with Tel Wogan) ??
  21. I love Keegan to bits, and I don't think it would bother me in the slightest if he went to Liverdip. It never bothered me when he was at Citeh (best supported club in the history of football. FACT!) so I doubt it would get me if he went to Liverpool. The affection he has for our club is both well known and genuine, so going to another top club wouldn't faze me. Now if he went to sunlun.............................
  22. Don't know if it's been said already, but Carroll being on the bench last night (so I read somewhere) spoke a thousand words to me. He aint going anywhere.
  23. If that's spelt correctly?? Ever since Wilkins got the push, I couldn't help but think the fella couldn't really give a fuck and was hoping to be sacked by the Ruski, so he could fuck off somewhere else with a fairly big pay off. Yeah, he's said this and that, but without any great conviction to me. Anyone else get this feeling that he can't really be arsed anymore?
  24. Did you txt TMS with this as well, DG? Sure I just read something very similar on there. no that wasn't me. It's funny how it takes a guy to retire though before the plaudits start rolling in. Colly really was the king of the nudge and the nurdle. The ugly shovel into the on side. But fair play to him - a brilliant career and a cv that his more talented predecessors would envy. The one worry about him going is that he'll almost certainly be replaced by another attacking stroke maker. Who will be rock in the middle order that will occupy the crease and grind out the backs to the wall innings colly built his reputation on, like Cardiff last summer? I get what you're saying about who will our rock be, but maybe those days (for now, anyway) are over? Collingwood was called on too often after the top order had failed. It now looks like we have a pretty good batting line up througout the team, where, if one or two fail, there are others who will score a ton - something Australia have had for years. After all these years, I am, like so many others, having to pinch myself that this is happening. It's long overdue, but I'm fuckin' lovin' it - LOVIN' IT!!
  25. Did you txt TMS with this as well, DG? Sure I just read something very similar on there.
