Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

Cheers. I never knew that about it being the same manager of both clubs. Edit: also thinking about it, Jock Stein would have still been the Celtic manager all those years later too -

The Intercontinental Cup matches Celtic played against Racing Club were supposed to be mental. The second leg was played over there was brutal. Ronnie Simpson (who won two FA Cups with us in the 50s) was injured before the game from a missile. And then there was a playoff third match played in ‘neutral’ Uruguay where six or seven players were sent off. -

I’ve seen that before but I still expect to see someone’s leg come off -
I don’t remember that but it’s like something Michael Owen would say

Just had a flashback to that absolutely shite short-lived soap opera ‘Quayside’ that Glenn McCrory appeared in

Some of them are so fucking tapped on there. They can go from being over the moon about the Tonali stuff to subsequently getting annoyed about it, due to made up conspiracy theories
-
They’re still going on about the ‘model’ too. And how they’ve got several players who could command fees in the tens of millions. Yet the club cashed in as soon as there was a decent bid for Ross Stewart and the only speculation is Burnley have been sniffing around Clarke. That’s it. Totally oblivious to players only being worth what other teams are willing to pay for them.

I remember saying something like I loved aspects of American culture like lots of their music and loads of 20th century novels. He responded with something like “And you’re not even taking the piss”. Like it was an outrageous point of view

I did keep my distance. We were staying in these ‘rainforest huts’ and it walked right past the front. Someone said it sounds like a person walking and it really did. We heard loads of stuff walking about but it was mainly jungle fowl. I also saw what I’m fairly certain was a big fucking coastal taipan

Talking absolute shite

There was another lass staying there went for a swim in the sea. Fuck that shit! Apart from the crocs there’s the box jellyfish. Iirc it was a couple of weeks before ‘stinger season’ but I would not be taking the chance of there not being a few early interlopers. Needless to say she wasn’t Australian. She survived We got as far as Cape Tribulation and saw a saltwater crocodile from the safety of a boat. I saw a wild cassowary at Mission Beach. It looked like a dinosaur
-
It was a couple of middle aged ladies on their hols. I think it was half-term there. I just kind of let it slide as I knew I was right and they were wrong. They were nice and everything, they were just adamant I was wrong about it
-
I was staying at a place in Mission Beach in Queensland (depressingly almost exactly 20 years ago). Me and my lass got talking to a couple of school teachers and they would not fucking have it that the saying ‘coals to Newcastle’ originally referred to Newcastle upon Tyne rather than the one in NSW

Whilst I’ve got a bit of time for the sweaty socks voting to remain in the UK then electing a load of SNP MPs to Westminster was possibly the most Scottish thing ever Unlike the leave voters in the EU referendum they correctly realised they’d have no one to blame their problems in any more

Uefa wouldn’t let you get away with a loophole like that even if it didn’t. I.e. the ban would be reimposed after playing there. Which is a shame because it would be hilarious
-
Somewhat intrigued to find out his views on wokery though
-
I do think it’s bad they’re not allowed to even train during the ban. I also think that while it’s correct the ban should apply across Europe, Uefa as the central body should impose the bans for consistency.

I will, mate. Cheers

I message him all the time. We catch for a few pints, usually around Monkseaton/Whitley/Tynemouth every two or three months. Him and his lass were bang into camping but he’s onto his second caravan now so that takes up most of his weekends, usually in the Lakes, Yorkshire or Northumberland. He still loves his cricket but, even though he’s happy about Newcastle, the fans and boost for the area etc. he’s lost his passion for top flight football. Him and Catmag go and watch the cricket together a bit too. Durham plus the odd England test / T20 / ODI.
