  1. Well I think they were gifted that for brokering the deal but couldn’t maintain the levels of investment needed by owners with the share of the club they had.
  2. I was just coming on to post that. Comparing it to striking workers standing up for themselves too btw.
  3. I think he would be the best option at present. So I absolutely do not see it happening
  4. I think it’s also the likelihood it’ll be very difficult for the manager/backroom staff and the players to trust him and be confident he’s giving 100% to the cause.
  5. You’re never too old to enjoy entering into contracts
  6. I can’t find it on the internet but I remember seeing a photo of Alan Knott hands with the gloves off and I think about six of his fingers were like Green’s little finger in that shot
  7. Is this still the heavy metal festival?
  8. I find it quite difficult to have any respect for anyone that has any time at all for the royals. Let alone the fucking dangers that adore them
  9. Which reminds me, Heaton Stan are playing at home to Consett tomorrow
  10. I didn’t realise they had oxygen. Although it’s still incredible how close they got when you’re reminded by those photos of how primitive their equipment was.
  11. Yeah, he’s Italian from the Dolomites. I always find that weird too. I think he broke a lot of records for climbing in the Alps too. On one of those documentaries him and his partner for that first Everest ascent get taken up near the top of Everest in a small plane. Then him and his mate take the oxygen masks off sat there as passengers and they start chatting away going (along the lines of) this doesn’t seem too bad Because what’s easy to forget is, before that first ascent without supplemental oxygen, no one even knew if it was physically possible for humans. I know there’s the evidence that George Mallory at least got close, but still…
  12. I did know he led that expedition so that’s what I was thinking of. There were a load of documentaries about Everest on the BBC to mark (I think) the 50th anniversary of the first successful ascent. Part of the inspiration for Reinhold Messner, who along with another fella did the first summit of Everest without supplemental oxygen, was Bonington’s 1975 expedition. Messner felt that had been like a military operation and all the support the climbers had took something away from what he considered to be the true spirit of mountaineering. Messner later did a solo ascent of Everest (another first) and was also the first person to summit all fourteen 8,000 peaks without supplemental oxygen. I think him and Bonington later became friends.
  13. I would have guessed Chris Bonington
  14. Dartmouth is lovely. It’s like another world down there. Had a lovely couple of days sailing down there about 3 or 4 years ago
  15. The first reply They make Man Utd fans look humble
  16. When you look at all the run-ins Deeney had in his less than stellar career you could be forgiven for thinking he was the problem
  17. I remember reading about this when I was a kid and their name popped up lately on social media somewhere. Is there a more crazy story of surviving a catastrophic event? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesna_Vulović
