I've has a very productive day. The bairn started the day with Winnie the Pooh wallpaper on his bedroom walls and a Buzz Lightyear duvet cover on his bed, and has gone to bed with a Cars bedroom. Wallpapered, new curtains, duvet, toybox, lightshade etc etc.. Trouble is, the rest of the house needs doing now and it's made my imagination run a bit wild. Our lounge/dining room is all open plan and it's mahoosive - about 30ft from front to back. The whole thing has wallpaper that's been on at least 10 years and painted over at least 10 times. I've decided the whole lot is coming off and I'm starting from scratch. Feature walls, new lighting/wall lights, ceiling and woodwork all needs doing. I've also decided that I'm going to pay someone to decorate it cos it's frankly daunting

I've been a couple of times and it's canny. Corfu Town is worth a visit for just being pretty and old-fashioned. If you do nothing more than have a beer outside of a taverna it's pleasant enough.

Jeez KCG, I can't imagine how you must have felt As JawD says - I'd be sick to my stomach too and wouldn't know what to do. The bairn goes to a private nursery 2 days a week and it's never been anything but brilliant, but whenever there's any story about nursery workers being arrested on the news I question myself over and over about whether he should be there. They are fully transparent, I have to sign paperwork even for him to have his photo taken and all the staff are fully CRB'd but I still feel guilty for working instead of being home full time.

Absolutely fucking filthy weather here on the mackem coast today. The waves crashing against the harbour were frightening and the gale-force sleet was just minging. Ironically I was only out shopping to get stuff to make a bloody Easter bonnet for the bairn!

The only downside to working permanent nights is having to go to bed on days like this. Booo...

The NHS might be shit at times but at least we don't have to listen to bullshit like that all day.

Been to the park, had ice-cream - now sitting in the garden watching the bairn play in the sandpit. Ahhhh.... I love sunshine

Along with John Lowe, Eric Bristow and Keith Deller, Jocky Wilson was a bit of a ledge in our house when I was a kid due to my dad's love of darts. Thought he was older than 62 though! RIP.

Ooof. Apparently mine was up at 7 (really 6) so I expect there to be some crashing and burning going on later.

I'm tempted to drown myself in gin this morning after work last night. Settling for a cuppa at the mo.

I've just had to capture and remove the biggest bumble bee I've ever seen from my front window. It was the size of a ferkin hamster!* *Almost

We deal with a fair few of JW adults on everyday operating lists and if they refuse blood they have to sign a separate form etc but we rarely deal with JW children in an emergency 'bleeding to death' situation as my hospital isn't a paediatric specialist hospital and they'd be taken to the RVI instead.
-
Could you possibly find a bigger can of worms to open? I've got extended qualifications in legal and ethical anaesthesia and I still don't know where to start! Yes they can refuse. If the child is deemed capable of making the decision then they can override their parents decision. Docs can also get a court order if they deem it necessary to give blood. Some Witnesses believe that if the child were to die then it's God's will and they won't be judged as having done wrong by Him. Some Witnesses say "We'd rather you didn't give blood but if it's a matter of life and death then do it" Some don't really mind either way, and sometimes in big, messy operations where there is lots of blood loss we collect the spillage, wash and spin the red calls and re-infuse them into the same patient. You see what I mean??

Back in your box pet. We'll do religion another day.

It would appear that Muamba, his fiancee and his family have a total belief in the power of prayer and in the presence of God. I'm also sure they are totally grateful to the paramedics for what they did. Who are any of us to criticise anyones faith in a greater power.. Who are any of us to criticize absolute faith in an invisible, omnipotent fairy-man who takes requests? People with functioning brains, that's who. In your opinion. Let's leave the Muamba family to that faith right now eh?

I work in Anaesthetics and ICU, not A&E, and I see the after effects of these resuscitations, which are frequently catastrophic, especially with prolonged down times (by which I mean half an hour) Either that 2 hour figure isn't quite right or he had some bloody good CPR. Either way, delighted to be wrong. For the record. I'm as amazed as you are if these reports are all confirmed. His fiancee has said "All your prayers are working" so he's heading in the right direction. I absolutely didn't expect him to make it to the hospital, if I'm being totally honest. Amazing job done by the paramedics

Do they do post-arrest cooling at your place Luke? We've had some decent outcomes from it.

Unbelievable news. To put this into perspective only 8% of people of people who receive CPR outside of a hospital setting survive. God bless those paramedics, and thoughts are with Muamba and his family tonight.
