In fairness to Fat Frank Everton look very solid so far this season. And he's managed to fashion a team with comparatively little outlay in the transfer window. In the battle of the golden generation midfielders he's easily doing a better job than Gerrard at present. Still early in the season though obviously, but you'd think Gerrard will be sacked sooner than later if Villa's form doesn't take a steep upturn very soon.

That bench is depressing apart from Anderson and Burn. Howe clearly doesn't want to risk any of the lads out with a run of decent fixtures coming up.

I'm sure other clubs are making the actual transfers more difficult than they need to be, and not doing us favours in terms of loans, but in terms of transfer fees it's hard to be believe we are getting any more ripped off than Chelsea and Man U.

I might get some pelters for this, but I think if Bruno is fit then that third midfield spot should go to Longstaff, and he should play in that more advanced role, or at least him and Bruno can share the responsibility of that role in front of the back four. Willock hasn't offered much of anything apart from a few decent carries with the ball every match. Longstaff's best position likely is a more advanced midfield role, it's certainly where I've seen him have his most impressive contributions, if not a number 10 as such. He and Bruno could let one go and one stay behind depending on the circumstances.

You'd think Chelsea would be more willing to allow Gallagher leave now they have another body in midfield, even though the player they signed is a defensive mid. Then again it's likely too late in the window regardless.

A journalist for 90mins is reporting that the deal for Ashby is all but done.

It would be nice if we got Ashby he turned out to be our Lamptey, given the Ashworth connection, except without the constant injuries. Brighton signed Lamptey off Chelsea for next to nothing.

Howe has said that Isak and Wilson could easily play in the same team. He'll likely play Isak out wide in the front three, and Almiron will drop to the bench.

Surely Anderson has to be ahead of Murphy for the subs choice from now on. Murphy, who I've defended in the past when had a few decent games at right back, is out of his depth. It's going to be incredibly difficult to get result at the top teams until we improve our options from the bench.

More than deserved a point, but we have to take the countless positives from the game. Isak looks class, the spirit and tactical organisation of the team is top class, and as people have rightly repeatedly pointed out we were missing three of our best players. If Bruno had of been playing tonight we likely would have been much more clever with the ball, which would have been priceless towards the end of the game.
