  1. Martins and Heskey, I could see 10 goals in 1 game then 0 goals (and a billion spectacular misses) for the next 10 games. The black Chuckle Broth(as) tbh. Rascist tbh Learn to spell you honky Walker shitehawk!

  3. What's the point if we don't keep Owen? How spectacularly bad would that outcome be?!
  4. I'm with Tribal. Tell Alf to fuck off.
  5. Chinese Soup? I'd rather lick my own arse tbh.
  6. Personally I hollow out a Greggs loaf and pour my minestone soup into it and use to fluffy stuff to dunk. You've got to get a strong loaf mind or else it'll all leak out. Like a minestone cowboy! I'm having some freshly (shop) made pea and ham soup. North East ethnic-tastic.
  7. 'Coming up for Air' is a beautiful read. '1984' is just peerless. In fact they're all worthy of your time -highly recommended.
  8. wore my new suit and everything! It was with work, one of the Providers paid for our County Stand entrance, the MD laid on a champagne lunch beforehand and the company put money behind the bar for us. An advisor took a few of us to a box he'd been given by a different provider and then we came back to Leeds. I still spent £50 at the races mind... only won on one race, Frankie Detorri was the jockey so the odds were shorter than Wacky's braces.. but it was the one horse you knew you'd win some cash on so I dumped £20 on it to win and win it did, that covered a lot of the money I'd already spent. Does anyone remember those Franki Dettori frozen garlic breads you could get at Iceland?
  9. The races is the schiznit for getting lashed and watching the fillies. Who on earth let you in though, Dave?
  10. Classic Father Ted: *Speaking of Father Jack regaining consciousness after paralysis induced by drinking Toilet Duck* "So there he is, risen from the dead...like that fella...ET!"

  12. Bizzarely enough there's an advert for corporate hospitality at Sunderland Football Club in the back of today's Manchester Evening News.

  14. That is kinda where I am on him as well. I understand your point (although I would say commanding his box is more of a problem than distribution) but I still struggle to think of more than a couple of keepers who are better than him in the world right now (Cassilas is much more prone to error than him and I don't particularly rate Riena although he's definitely solid) and as such I would have to say he's world class. He's not as good as some players from the past like Banks, Lashin (spellings probably miles off), Shilton, Southall or Schmeicel (spelling again) but they aren't playing any more. Anyway the point is he is the best player we have with a consistency to match his skill that hasn't been found in a Newcastle player since Shearer was in his prime or Bobby Lee and as such it's best for the team that he play. Also clearly being guaranteed his game hasn't harmed him in the past so there's no reason to think it will make him rest on his laurels now. What SA needs to do is make sure he drops players who aren't performing rather than worrying about ones who 99% of the time will. Yashin
  15. Yes Gemmill, he is dead. Nessun Dorma Dormi Bene!
  16. That should be the absurdity of a religious belief, not all religious beliefs. It annoys me that it's always religion in general that's absurd - as if they're all as bad and as false as each other. The Bible is equally absurd to me though. Even the new bit, about God giving his only son (who's also himself and born of a virgin) to knowingly die on a cross to cure original sin, caused by a ficticious man and his nasty ficticious girl friend some 4000 years previously. That makes as much sense to me as, well, slaughtering goats to fix a plane. He didnt cure original sin did he? I thought we were all born with original sin? I'm sure that's the point of the baptism tbh. Hence if you haven't been baptised (like me say) you remain a bastard sinner...and if you're say Adolf Hitler, you're sorted. What did he die for then? 16 years of a catholic education, an 'A' in RE, and I still don't know. Regarding the baptism thing, iirc earlier this year the pope decided that purgatory was no more. How long before the concept of Hell disappears? He died for our sins.....but I don't think that includes original sin. I think Catholics believe if you've not been christened then you've still got original sin. They say that when babies cry during the service theyre howling out the devil. I could be completely wrong and Lennon will no doubt correct me, in which case I'll stick to sacrificing goats.

  18. Competition for places is important. Lot of supposition in this thread. Given is good but he certainly isn't world class IMO. Cech and Buffon are world class unreservedly. Cech is certainly a better keeper than Given and I haven't seen much of Buffon for a while but I would say he was a better keeper a few years ago. But beyond those two I can't really think of much better. Look at all of the major footballing nations (England, Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Argentina, Brazil and so on) and non of them have a keeper to match Given. So in that respect I would have to class him as world class even if he's not the very best in the world. And as Craig says, his importance has become even more apparent when we became a much poorer side! He is very good don't get me wrong but he also has serious flaws, he doesn't come for crosses well and his communication with the def is also poor at times. As a shot stopper he is world class imo. These two also are as good and better in some dept than Given.. Iker Casillias (can't remember how old he is).. Reina And the point is they're all a level above Harper. It's a no-brainer for me.
