Newcastle United's Player Of The Season - 2010.
donaldstott replied to Kevin's topic in Newcastle Forum
Eh? disgracefully bad? We've conceeded 33 goals all season, nobody in that back four could be disgracefully bad. He'd be torn apart in the PL, not forgetting that the right side is significantly weak compared to our left, he's a liabilty and a nervous wreck. A new RB should be prioritised in the upcoming transfer window. Most of us agree that he's not good enough for the Prem, but he's been plenty good enough for the CCC imo. -

TBH I hadn't even noticed what Alex had said about Nolan, I tend not to read his posts on footy chat, as everyone knows he knows nowt about football. I agree Enrique is hands down our best footballer, but that doesn't make him an automatic choice for player of the season. I reckon Nolan's goals have won more games than anyone else and have been absolutely vital to us securing promotion. -

I actually think that one piece of solid graft by Nolan, typified the season for us. It set the tone and demonstrated how hard this seasons team was going to work. Taken from the .com vs Reading 15th Aug 09... 61 mins Some smart build-up play looked to have come to nothing as the ball was trundling out of play by the corner flag. Nolan showed some quick thinking and reached the ball, laying it back to Barton who laid the ball into Ryan Taylor's path and the cross was a beauty to Ameobi whose header found the far corner again, this time with some purpose. Magic. 2-0 -
Sneijer looks like a canny bit of business by Mourinho. Inter were excellent. Graeme Souness saying "I bet when he strips off he's a tight little unit" about Messi was not.
-
I must say that i was not impressed with the, albeit fleeting, first team appearances thus far. Most worryingly was a distinct lack of pace. Maybe I haven't seen him 'open his legs' (TM G.Souness) yet.

IMO without Enrique we'd still have been promoted, but without Nolan we'd be a playoff contender. Collocini deserves an honourable mention, for playing every game, looking incredibly consistent and throwing his body on the line. -
Is Hughton the right man for the big league?

The good news is that I'd bet good money that FMA doesn't read the Independent and therefore is unlikely to see the article and start getting ideas... -
It's not just Rooney, the biggest gulf between the two leagues is up front, even the likes of Ricardo Fuller gave us problems last season. Williamson has never played against top level strikers, but he seems to read the game well and blocks a lot of shots. We'll see.

My tomtom does that, normally great, until I visited South Wales and it took me to 4 closed down garages in a row, a couple had been seemingly closed for years. This obviously did not help the petrol levels in the motor and led to a wee bit of squeeky bum.

Don't get me wrong there is no nice way to be relegated, but there was a certain inevitability that Plymouth were going down, they've had weeks to accept it and the anger drains away. The way we were relegated was much more raw and more likely to lead to anger as it wasn't quite as predictable. Nevertheless it was incredibly gracious of the Plymouth fans, DJ and club. We still wouldn't stand for it, and you know it. Imagine say Leeds winning the league on our pitch Marching ON Together blaring on the tannoy as they've won the league, there'd be 100 in hospital at least. I agree. They should a commendable level of restraint...

He looks farily solid at Wigan as he did at Ipswich, both small clubs with small crowds and limited pressure. The simple fact is that Bramble couldn't handle the pressure of 52k (and the fact that there were 52k palpably nervous geordies whenever the ball went within 15 yards of him).

Cemetary Junction - Quite predicatable, nothing out of the ordinary and if it wasn't the work of Gervais and Merchant I doubt it would have achieved a cinematic release. Nevertheless it raised a smile from time to time and the actress who plays Jane is fist-eatingly attractive... http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3567815680/nm0428065 -
I used to get smacked pretty regularly if i was out of line - always by my dad. Probably too regularly if I'm honest, don't think it did my relationship with my dad any good at all. Having said that, it won't stop me using smacking as an ultimate deterrent with my kids though.

Arrgh feck, I was looking forward to the congregation giving their relationship advice...

Away to Bristol wearing it was absurd. How often has the 3rd been worn? I reckon we've only worn our home shirt on a couple of occasions, Watford away and Barnsley. Watford would have clashed with the yellow. Maybe Ashley was maximising its exposure so it would sell or maybe the club read all the negative responses to the shirt and decided to rub our noses in it for shouting nasty stuff to mikey by wearing it whenever they could. I reckon the 3rd kit was worn three times? Dundee Utd, Blackpool and Forest. Or maybe the players felt that they were winning games in it, so why change things.

Rooney - 24 Milner - 24 Fabregas - 22 Hart - 22 "young" player of the year nominees I was thinking that, there should be a rule that once you've played 150 top flight games you're ruled out, Rooney's been playing top flight football for 7/8 years, Milner and Fabrigas for 6. Having said that, no decent youngsters are springing to mind as there doesn't seem to be the next round of younsters setting the scene alight as in pervious years. My vote would probably be for Jack Rodwell, but beyond that all I can think of is: Kalinic at Blackburn, Wiltshere at Bolton, Junior Stanislas/Collison at West Ham, Raffael at ManU maybe Adam Johnson.

Dug this thread out. The away strip has grown on me and I'm gonna miss it. Largely to do with the fact that we've won a stack of games in it.

Newcastle United 09/10 Season Highlights
donaldstott replied to Christmas Tree 's topic in Newcastle Forum
The first one suggests that we've scored an awful lot of headers this season. -
Hopefully get a really good turn out. I think the 85 youth cup game vs Watford was my first match at SJP. My cousin was playing for Watford at the time, he was a midfielder, so presumably had the unenviable task of marking Gazza.

Indeed. That's what I dislike about politics. That people won't take a risk for fear of getting flak if it goes wrong. In my own little idealistic world I'd much prefer it if Brown said, yes we have stolen that Tory policy, it seemed very sensible and I think it will benefit the country overall so I don't apologise for using it. Or a Tory MP saying, no I'm not going to follow the party whip because what the Government is trying to implement will benefit the people of the UK. Every MP is there as they've been chosen to represent us, normal parliamentary business shouldn't always reflect party politics in my view, it should be based on what's best for the country. Save the party politics for election time.

I think that the leaders debate is a huge step forward for British Politics. The Lib Dems must be delighted, it's a real opportunity to present themselves as a genuine alternative. Labour on the other hand must hate the fact that Brown is fronting it.
