Arguably what he deserves but I fail to see what good that does the club, which is my primary concern. i can only see him getting into more trouble in the future if we hang on to him. he looks a serial offender to me and he's not even looked a good player. if it was maradona you could make an exception but i think we're better off getting rid. even if he does do the whole reform thing at tony adams' place and we keep him on, i still fully expect him to attack a teammate with a cigar or something at some stage Getting rid is different to letting him rot though, make your mind up. get rid or let him rot in the reserves. i'm not fussy. The latter is madness, totally to the detriment of the club. Throwing money away. Agree totally... I really can't understand that mentality. How would we benefit as a club?

Source? BBC reporting that Laurent Robert is off to Derby subject to internation clearance...

I fail to see what good 'letting him rot' would do NUFC.

We know he's bad news... but he's OUR bad news. We abandon him it hardly gives the impression of a decent club who looks after their employees and therefore we look an even less attractive prospect to potential signings. These days, employers have a duty (possibly only moral) to assist troubled members of staff in any way they can. You wouldn't think much of a company who sack someone or let them 'rot' because they're an alcoholic, would you?

Wouldn't swap because I think Martins still has a lot to give and ones he gets his form back he will be an important player for us come the end of this season. Dont think Villa want him either, pure speculation. How long do we have to wait though? As I've said elsewhere Martins has electric pace and a fierce shot.... but that's all he does have. Bellamy had both those attributes but much more besides. Sadly there's no footballing brain in that head of his and often runs around like a headless chicken. Reminds me very much of Mirandinha with pace. Defoe has been sitting on the bench at Spurs for the best part of a year. When he comes on he often ends up bagging a goal or two yet he never seems to moan (not to the press anyway) that he's been largely overlooked. 3 times the player Martins is too.

Agreed.. I think in the Shepherd days he'd probably have been left to rot.

I can't take the fact that his therapist is called Peter Kay seriously....

I'd swap him for Martins without a second's thought.... Think he's off to Villa though

I think your anti press meter has swung too far now. Yes they are always on our backs, but for good reason yesterday, we were outplayed and outfought bar one or two of our lads. I cant believe people on here are saying a draw against stoke is a decent result. Shows how far we have dropped. 4 years ago we were in the champions league, top 5 finishes 3 seasons running. We had a good squad and a good team, im sorry but im not just willing to accept that our players dont try very hard and we should be glad of a draw against lower league ooposition. It was a decent result because of how average we've been this season and in the last few seasons, especially away from home. Plus, Stoke are doing well. That's all people mean by it. I'm not accepting the performance as 'sufficient' - I want us to be better than that but the press are making out that they absolutely creamed us when they didn't. As for the "4 years ago we were in the champions league, etc.." comments well that's exactly that - it WAS 4 years ago. Same as saying 12 years ago we were favourites for the premiership or 53 years ago we were on the verge of winning our 3rd FA Cup in 5 years. It's history, it's gone and we need to stop living in the past. Stoke are a decent outfit who are being judged on the fact that they're in a division below us. As has been pointed out, they're in an awesome run of form, in a play-off position and actually only 13 places below us in the league. If the top division still had 24 clubs, they'd be in it!
-
They were all over us in the second half and should have scored 3 easily. And so should we... I'm not arguing that they weren't a match for us, but they weren't any better than us. Agree with Alex, the press are gutted that we didn't lose.
-
No matter which paper you read or radio station you listen to today, their bile about us seems to be nothing but "Stoke we all over Newcastle and had far more of the game" etc...... Sorry but that's absolute shite! I grant that when you consider the relative values of each squad that on paper we should have played them off the park but we all know that football is not like that. Put it into the perspective of 11 men against 11 men on a pitch for 90-odd minutes and both sides were evenly matched. Yes, we could (and should) have played better than we did with the bunch of players we've got. But that doesn't not automatically mean that we played any worse than Stoke.

To be fair Skol the big issue was with him indescriminately lashing out at members of the public in the street afterwards. Something which was caught on CCTV and something which his own brief conceeded was "Barton losing it!"

He didn't miss the target against Arsenal , it was cleared off the line. West Ham was a bad one I agree. As for Man City on Wednesday, if he had confidence he would have buried them chances. Last season he was the main reason we stayed up, this season he doesn't look half the player he was under Roeder. Thanks, Sam. That doesn't make it better. It was such a timid shot. He placed it when he should've wellied it and vice-versa. Precisely.... Hitting the target in my mind consists of the ball heading towards the back of the net... All the defender needed to do was fart and it changed direction...

Kevin Davies?? The whole logic of selling our top goalscorer is baffling, his use of Martins has been baffling. I doubt we'll recoup what we paid for him. Seeing as he's quite clearly proving himself NOT to be a £10m player, I agree with you.... Understandable, being played right wing or up front on his own is not his game - never mind chasing aimless long balls down. That's strange.... there's been plenty of matches this season where I've seen him play through the middle and fluff chance after chance. He's got a fierce shot on him and a decent amount of pace but his composure lets him down. The efforts against West Ham and Arsenal when he went round the keeper and still missed the target are a testament to this. I don't think he's worth anywhere near £10m.

Surely he should be suspended by the club for this! Don't they have to wait for him to be found guilty first? If they take that stance I'm sure a certain K.Bond esq. will be even more pissed off with our shambles of a club...

On what grounds???
