  1. I now expect Emerton to be our next manager. (Baia being his assistant, wearing the No. 99 shirt, after fighting in the Falkland wars for Australia's right for an automatic WC qualifying spot etc. pp.).
  2. I could be wrong but I just saw him going to Alkmaar as someone throttling back from "big" jobs - going somewhere where limited success would be lauded and an "easy" life. Of course if he said "fuck that, I want this job with all the shit it entails" then I'd be satisfied Him managing Alkmaar is a bit like SBR managing Newcastle I guess. IIRC he is a former Alkmaar player (and fan?). The club is also considerable rich and wants to take on the likes of Ajax, PSV and also compete in Europe as good as it can.
  3. Houllier health concerns but acceptable Dechamps looks good instinctively but possibly not enough achieved imo Van Gaal Too long since at a big club therefore questionable desiire? Hughes not ecstatic but happyish Keegan head says no, heart says yes - would probably fail but would be a good ride Shearer & Keegan warming to it - but would like to judge how committed the two of them to the partnership Shearer depends on his "squad" Hitzfeld I trust Isegrim - maybe in the past but now probably not hungry enough Mourinho Would be ecstatic if its possible Abel Braga Fuck off This, more or less. I've also concerns about Houllier and Deschamps really suiting Newcastle. But I would be happy with giving van Gaal a go.

Kristall is just a filtered version and sold by most breweries, so I don't think it's an alien concept. Bavarian waitresses are a bit strange though. I once made the mistake to order a "Hefe" as it is called in the part of southern Germany where I live. She didn't (want to) understand. Then I said "Weizenbier" realising by looking at her the horrible mistake I made. "Aha, oan Woißbia wuist hoabn." I was really amazed to get my "Weißbier" served in a glass and not over my head. They should have warning signs "Vorsicht, bissige Kellnerin" in Bavarian beer gardens tbh.
  5. Wolfgang, forgetting Boumsong I think you're being a tad harsh there. Juventus last season only lost 3 league games, over turned a 15 point deficit to win the league by 6 points! Can you see any of the british managers we've been liked with doing that? And you name Del Piero and Nedved neither who are at the peak of their games. EDIT: Sorry my mistake 4 loses as you rightly pointed out. It was also reduced to a 9 point deficit, wasn't it [EDIT: khay beat me to it]? Del Piero was still their major player and was the best goalscorer in Seria B. I'd actually expect most members of this forum to win promotion with this kind of squad.

No, you have to pay for every beer you order. Something like 7-8 Euro a liter (and they really sell it in those huge beer glasses - douple pints). There are tents from various breweries, but it's normally quite difficult to get tables (unless you put your towel in early). It's fun if you like to mix up with loads of drunken Italians (they come in masses), Brits, Americans etc. and listen to crap German music. Otherwise I recommend to visit Munich at another time and really enjoy the beer. I'd rather recommend the Starkbierzeit earlier in the year during lent where you get special beer.

Paulaner Oktoberfest? Probably Then it's a decent beer. You only get it in the summer and it tastes somewhat different every year depending on the brewing and how strong it is (IIRC normally ~6%). Were you drinking it Jormany or did you get it in England? They have a Continental Market over here near the City Hall in Belfast every Xmas (work in Belfast Mon-Fri now in case you didn't know). They have a German Beer tent there and I went a few times. Had a 'Kristal', the name of which escapes me, which was nice too. Tried a few others but Paulaner was the most drinkable so I tended to settle on that. Does that mean you bought this "Oktoberfest" beer at a Christmas market? I just looked it up: Paulaner only sell it from July to Oktober. So you were served the leftovers. I don't really want to know what else they served you.
  8. Did a job in Serie B..... ... just not really a good one. eh? he took them up didn't he? I thought he meant Boumsong. Though, even if he meant Deschamps I don't think it was that much of a great job. After all he had a squad with the likes of Buffon, Del Piero, Trezeguet, Nedved etc. to his disposal who you think would play at the top in Seria A. Ten draws, four losses after all. The games I saw were mostly rarther poor. And from the Italians I know here in Germany, some of them Juve fans, they mostly weren't happy with him and quite relieved when he packed in after the season.

  12. I was having my usual extended lie in while the radio was on and heard that. I instantly jumped out of bed and did a little excited run about the flat. Yes please. At last we'll have someone on the coaching staff who's probably still as good as most of the players, rather than having never been. Someone to demand respect. Even I would be happy with Zola, just because he was such a great player. I don't know anything about his coaching abilities though. And I still don't really get this whole Deschamps jizzfest. Actually bit of a serious question from myself, who do you want for the job mate? I know myself, I personally don't have a clue at the moment so I'm well and truly sitting on the fence so to speak. I am probably in your camp with not really having a clue. It's more about not getting excited by certain names. I mentioned in another thread that the most important criterion for appointing a manager is that he matches with the club and its philosophy. And I think there are managers despite their superb CVs or playing careers could be failures. And to be a bit arrogant, I've quite often been right with my feeling about managers. I live close to Stuttgart (among the most fickle football fans you can think). When they replaced Trapattoni with Veh, a manager who had more or less only managed lower league teams and been unemployed for a couple of years, I was more or less on my own when I thought, he would be successful because he would really match with the club. A bit over a year later he had lead them to a league title and to a cup final. I was sure about Klinsmann being a success for Germany or most lately Schuster doing brilliant at Madrid (I think I even mentioned it on N-O). I've been in many cases (Gullit for example) though... I've have to say I am not really a big fan of French, Italian and Spanish football and it is probably because of this that I think that most players/managers who were brought up in this environment would struggle at Newcastle. Though I know too little about the likes of Pellegrini for example. Being more nordic orientated I think a manager like Morten Olsen for example who plays a decent football could do a job. Or maybe someone like Michael Laudrup who is now at Getafe (and who I think I mentioned here already a couple of years ago). Of course my favourite would be van Gaal, although I do believe he is far too happy at Alkmaar (and hates English football) to take the job. Another person I always mention who imho would fit in well at Newcastle is George Burley. Or maybe now the likes of Mowbray or Magilton (a bit of an Ipswich school of bringing up a certain kind of managers). Have to stop here, because I've actually some work to do, I'll try to think of more names more of my liking.

See, after all you do have something in common with Gemmill... ... and Meenzer.
  15. You might be right, it's probably foremost the disappointment from watching the Juve games that really put me off.
  16. I saw only the goals from the Deportivo game back then, remember the 'keeper was shocking. From the games against Chelsea I remember Ranieri ("tinkerman") bottling it by brining on Huth to play in midfield. Wasn't it rather Chelsea in the replay who did attack them from the start as they had to overcome the two goal deficit, going ahead only to bottle it again?
  17. Hmm, I only vaguely remember some games I saw from Monaco, but didn't find it particularly eyecatching. I watched some of the Juve games last season as I thought they would walk it in Seria B with their squad, but was really disappointed. Very dull tbh. I am also not sure if English football would generally suit him. I'd rather have Hughes or the others tbh. Though, I owe you one for my Baros debacle. So we'll be even if he fails...

  21. Read this. http://www.toontastic.net/board/index.php?...amp;hl=Hitzfeld You will get the picture. Got as far as TaylorIQ27's opening gambit and collapsed in a fit of laughter But PP pissed on their hopes and dreams man! You've got to love the appeal to the good people of Toontastic That whole saga should be embarrassing as fuck for HTT and his band of goons. They not only acted like 'flids when it came out as a hoax, but still managed to ignore those who told them it was total bollocks. I still have to laugh about it, they didn't even get it that babelfish translated people's surnames into German...
  22. Did he not actually say that "top managers from Europe" were queueing up ... only to appoint to the disbelief of most the tosser Souness (or was it Roeder)?
