  1. Narcism. (which the Germans misunderstood and made nazism out of).
  2. I think it tells a story how the Tim Richs, Simon Rushworths etc. all later end up at the bigger national newspapers while he stays the little local journalist only few people take serious...
  3. He's reached a new low of late imo. He's mates with Roeder for one thing, which makes any notion of impartiality even more of joke than it ever was with him, and all he does now is say "I can reveal story X in paper Y linking player Z with Newcastle is untrue". Aye, that does my fucking head in. I'm more than capable of reading a rumour in another newspaper and dismissing it myself. For this bloke to take it upon himself to rubbish stories in other papers when he's got fuck all worthwhile reporting himself is a disgrace. Just because he has Roeder's ear and can ask him about these things he genuinely thinks it's newsworthy. SMALL-TIME REPORTER SCOTCHES TRANSFER RUMOUR EXCLUSIVE! Brilliant. The Pulitzer beckons. Thing is too, if he says we're going to sign a player and it doesn't materialise, it often never gets mentioned again. Don't worry, Brett Emerton will be a Newcastle player by the end of the week.
  4. I'm in a state where I find all this quite amusing. I don't expect anything "pleasantly surprising" coming through in this transfer window, so I am just concentrating on the comedy value of our transfer "planning"
  5. Much ado about nothing then... http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsD...~970320,00.html
  6. We need a picture from Jimbo's TV tbh otherwise it's probably photoshopped.
  7. Sounds like we're getting him on loan though. Loan with an option to buy, which doesn't make the price worse in case we sign him later if he turns out to be decent
  8. Apparently Fulham had a 1.25m bid accepted earlier this month. A deal in the similar region for a big lad would at least be a nice change instead of splashing millions on big names. http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/new...onyewu_deal.php

  10. I heard negotiations are a bit tricky as they want to play for free as we want to pay them wages for taxation reasons...
  11. Not for anything less than ... 50 cent.
  12. That makes the most sense of all rumours so far.
  13. I like it how cynical most have become when it comes to transfers.
  14. I think there are just two really accepted ones, the Greek and the Latin version, i.e. Patroklos or Patroklus. Is Patrokles really used in the English translations? I've seen all three used in various languages. Patroclus too. My fault. Patroklus is of course unusual (wrong) because the letter k wasn't used very much in the newer Latin writing. But I've never seen Patrokles used in literature, hence my question. Is it really a modern English term or just a common spelling mistake because of the pronunciation.
  15. Weren't we already close to sign a defender within the next 24 hours two weeks ago? Anyway, I reckon Brett Emerton will be a Newcastle player by the end of the week...
  16. I think there are just two really accepted ones, the Greek and the Latin version, i.e. Patroklos or Patroklus. Is Patrokles really used in the English translations? I do beleive Smeeagain has become a classic Can you say this in ancient Greek or Latin please.

  18. Pretty town! I wish I lived somewhere that wasn't such a hole. It really is (especially when it isn't covered in snow slush). I might have to move later this year, but Heidelberg isn't bad either, just even more annoying tourists.
  19. I think both are worth reading from a language-aesthetical point of view (I am not sure about the quality of the English translations, in Germany there is a fantastic one from the early 19th century). The Odyssey is more meaningful and more open for interpretations what makes the reading more challenging imho. btw - I always wanted to know if Patrokles was deliberately misspelling his user name.
  20. It has really kicked off here now. Went to a dinner yesterday night and when I went home there were about 15cm Snow. It hasn't stopped snowing since then... http://www.tuebingen.de/1559_webcam.html
  21. Wha? And start looking after sick animals? Wasn't that Dr. Doolittle? he talked to them - a right loon IMHO St. Francis preached to them because he heard god's voice in his head... No wonder a lot of hospitals for mentally ill are named after him.
  22. Depends... in general german white wine is better because the climate is more suited for grapes like Riesling. But the climate change and also the ambition to produce better quality means there some decent reds available, but they are normally quite expensive.
