  1. Adam Armstrong - 5ft. 8 Hughie Gallager - 5ft.5 (even before my time but legendary) Alan Shoulder - 5ft. 5 Ernie Taylor - 5ft. 4 Jermain Defoe - 5ft .7 Obafemi Martins - 5ft .7 What is small and lightweight for a forward? Keegan & Beardsley were 5ft. 8, same as Armstrong.
  2. Stanley Mathews played in the 1st. Division (no premier league in those days) when he was 50 years old. Age is but a number, not an assessment of ability, capability, physicality. 33 is not necessarily over the hill, individuals have their limitations but Murphy may surprise us.
  3. Shay Given scores with his head. Too bad it was in his own goal.
  4. I honestly thought we would lose this one so you can imagine how chuffed I am that I was wrong.
  5. Todays results have put us down to 15th place, a win for us today would put us up in the top 6. Not that happy with Gouffran and Anita starting, surely Gamez or Yedlin would be a better choice at right back. I think I would have gone with Darlow, and I'd rather see Colback on the pitch rather than Gouffran.
  6. I think this is a very crucial game and will give some idea of how we are going to fare during this season. Brighton have been chasing a Premier League spot for quite some time and albeit it is very early in the season they are sitting second top. Add to that Hughton will be really looking for a win here at St. James'. I think if we lose this one at home it will spell doom to our goal to go straight back up. We have to secure points from the better teams and not depend on points from lesser teams.
  7. BBC is saying Krul has gone to Ajax on a season loan. Is that right?
  8. Got bad feelings about this one, Hughton will be wanting to show Ashley the mistake he made in firing him when he was doing a decent job and had got us promoted. Plus Brighton have been on the verge of Premier League status for a while indicating they are no pushover. And if Gayle & Mitro are both out it doesn't bode well for our striking power.
  9. CT, were things that bad you started looking to Jesus? Does he come to our home games or were you just praying!
  10. Don't think I'll ever listen to a radio commentary again, that was fucking nail-biting at its best. Sounded like the best team lost, I need to see a doctor for my dire nervous condition, anyone got any valium? Thank fuck we didn't throw it away.
  11. Sounds like our backs are up against the wall. Sels & Clarks not sounding very good.
  12. Ye knaa, aa thowt we wad lose agyen, surprise-surprise. But there were earlier surprises. Janmaat dropped, place taken by winger Anita. Captain dropped, place taken by Clark. Aaron dropped, place taken GOUFFRAN! Shelvey playing 90 minutes.
  13. Bottom line: We pay him - so play him. Poor performances for us would hinder his departure. Good performances would brighten his chances. He needs to show his Euro display was no fluke.
  14. At first I was thankful to CT for providing a radio commentary but when they scored I switched it off and logged off and went to watching the Olympics as I kind of knew we were going to lose again and didn't want to suffer slowly for another 45 minutes. The loss today will no doubt accelerate my expiration date, it's bad for the heart. I honestly have to question Rafa's ability now, Anita FFS. Dutton FFS, Shelvey FFS.
  15. What's with Benitez & that out of position little lightweight Anita from Curacao?
  16. PLEASE tell me there is some way, some how, I can see this match without flying home. There's got to be a way, I can't live with this un-televised life in the championship. We might get promoted but that's a year away and life has an expiration date, mine may be due before then. Surely there's a stream somewhere, or a river, I don't care...........HELP ME.
  17. Hoyman wer oot bottom 3 aalreddy. Fowerth bottom noo an' mebbe shinnying up like.
  18. Truth be told, the Rafamania, the hype, the new signings, the tunes of glory, all became a miserable bubble bursting display which nigh on broke me heart and left me as sick as a chip.
  19. Rayvin, I can't remember what I predicted in the poll but I did post a 1 - 0 worst nightmare loss with Parker scoring.
  20. Hey, we're in the bottom 3 again, right on the bottom!! I know, I know, it's early and we've only played 1 game but we've probably thrown the bookies for a fit.
  21. My worst nightmare didn't materialize ............ Parker didn't score the winning goal. I had to settle for a bad dream! At no time did we look like league winners, and I don't want to hear moans about penalties not given. Gayle and Perez ................lightweight, and neither posed much of a goal-scoring threat. Of the new boys only Ritchie looked like a good buy. I'd like to know why Hanley started ahead of Mbemba who was on the bench. Back to the drawing board Rafael you got the Fulham blueprint wrong.
  22. Fulham 1 v 0 Newcastle. Parker. My worst nightmare.
  23. Another lad who graced our team was Laurie Abrahams who started his career with West Ham but spent most of his pro-career over here with various outdoor & indoor teams. Laurie is still here and is the equipment manager at a local college. Probably the most decorated player who briefly wore our strip was a double winner with Arse'n'all and England player Bob McNab. He's here somewhere in LA, his daughter is an actress. Another one who spent a season with us was Bobby Sibbold from Hebburn. I think he started off at Leeds then went to Southport. He came over here and made his mark as captain with the Los Angeles Aztecs playing with George Best & Johan Cruyff. He's still here somewhere and I heard he won a lot of money in the lottery.
