Hate those people who blame Shay for his decision.. When he came here and the whole time he has been here he has been told we are an ambitious club looking at top 6.. he has done nothing but try to help and if you look at how many point he has saved for us, I'm sure we would already be down..

But.. Harper is a good keeper too, so if Shay feels that he is frustrated with management, anyone who is that fed up has to make a decision.. don't go blaming him for leaving his job - when if you were in the same shoes you'd do exactly the same.

Respect to Shay and hope it works out ok for him.. it does leave us short in terms of injuries though - but heah that is repeated in every position, so at least the club are consistent in one thing - no cover for any position.

Not so much good luck to Charles tho - never rated the kid who always threw his dummy out the pram when asked to play left back, never rated him in midfield as he can't cross anyway.. and defenders just need to give him a few yards to cancel out his pace.

Shay Given spat his dummy out when he got dropped and threatened to leave. I'm no great fan of N'Zogbia but half the time he's been here he's been played out of position.

Jesus, there's some serious self loathing going on here.

He deserves fuck all. We are the club he's bailing out of leaving us even more likely to get relegated and you're supporting HIM?

People dont seem to see football as a job. Yes there are the mercenary salesmen types who will jump ship at the drop of a hat for leather interior on the Mondeo but at the same time theres the hard working, head down admin blokeys who stay late, work their lunch hours and generally promote the company. Shay is one of those however when the shit hits the fan and the company is going down the pan its those workers that you hope get a job somewhere else first. Its those that you dont begrudge the move. Put yourself in his position for a moment, he owes us nothing hes been here years and won fuck all. Now when the company is dying on its arse, the sales force have been sacked, the support team dismantled and the company Mondeos swapped for Smart cars he realises hes gaining nothing in life being here. Suddenly the rival company is offering to double his salary, work with a manager who knows what hes doing, offers a new PC and photocopier to make the job easier and promises tons of overtime and European travel. Who's to say that in 6 months time the rivals wont have recruited some new photocpying wizard from South America and dont have a place open for him?

Most footballers don't win anything. That's just statistically true. Of course they all hope to, but he was here through thick and thin on a contract that he himself signed. Whether he was injured or not, week in week out, getting more than most of us earn in a year every week.

No guarantees of silverware were in his contract. Yes, he's a great keeper, but he's on a wage and employed to do the best he can for our club.

I'm not defending the shocking way Ashley has gone about things but the club is bigger than him, even if he does happen to own it and I want what's best for the club LONG before I care about any individual whether it be Shearer, Robson, Keegan or Given.

I felt the same way when Shearer was giving Robson a hard time for dropping him. I just think players these days look after number one far too soon, when they're already set for life.

Again, I realise I'm in a minority but frankly, after someone jumps ship at the expense of the club I support I no longer feel like wishing them well.

Had he been sold against his will, that would be different, but he wants out and it's going to ultimately have a negative impact on the club I support.

its nuts selling any of our better players in this window , shay included .

im suprised at shay , yeah he has been a great servant to the club , and maybe its not the best club to be at right now , but these players should be thinking of the fans rather than jumping ship while they have a chance .

anyway , roll on the summer(thats if we are not relegated) and hopefully a buyout as there is no chance in hell that mike will ever match our ambition , thats doesnt mean 20 mill pound singings either mike , your stars to blood are great , as long as you bring in the likes of nolan on the cheap at the same time ,which we havent bee doing .

I begrudge him nothing, 11 great years, a model professional. good luck to him and well done getting out of this shithole of a club.

Is the right answer... B)

Is our opinion... <_<

B)

What does he owe the club then? He could have walked out on us countless times in the past but never did and he's been promised false dawn after false dawn...

The bloke has served the club admirably. No one's bothered to mention that he's due a testimonial which has never been offered, not to mention the fact that had he remained here for the rest of his contract, he'd have undoubtedly passed Jimmy Lawrence's club appearance record for which I don't doubt he'd have been rewarded for.

He's had enough of the shit and lies just like the rest of us. He's been offered an opportunity to further his career and good fucking luck to him.

He, more than anyone at NUFC deserves it!

He's been a great player for the club for a number of years, and you can argue that, and maybe we have been fortunate to have him, but ultimately his leaving the club is a detriment to the team during our hour of need, so forgive me if I don't applaud him out of the club.

tbf Jimbo, this club's 'hour of need' has lasted 5 years. He's been more fucking patient than I'd have been with my employers.

And I don't think any of us who are saying that we don't begrudge him a thing are talking about applauding him out of the club. No one is more gutted he's going than me... B)

id have no problem with the shay situ , just not in this window , i think its harsh of him todo this to us now .

he should know better than anybody we as much as him deserve a bit of a break, if he feels in the summer that neither one of us is going to get it , then move on shay .

but your fans who have backed you for years , who istill belive you care for , will not let this go on another year , and you know it shay .

help thru relegation battle , and in summer we will get fat ash out im sure of it , then if not , move shay , just not fucking now

and if you really wont have mind changed , let us hold out for a better deal for you , that you know we and you deserve

he's got ambition. with a team in his opinion in decline and man city (though the league table doesn't show it) with aspirations of greatness, i have no doubt i'd do the same. the money he'll be on will be pretty good, and i reckon would be a stumbling block for arsenal who i really thought he'd sign for....

why THIS window tho and not summer , never mind himself the blokes sitting behind him in those seats for the past 10 year thought he was one of us , same blokes and you and me have ambition also .

and for that reason we will rid the club of ashley , wait till next window shay man , im happy with 10mill bargain hunting and zoggy fee put into players if we pick up likes of nolan and taylor now for cheap . summer , ashley will be gone , we will make the fucker this time if he dont back up his bullshit with actions

Honestly my bias for Given aside we truly have some seriously fickle fans when a player who has stuck by the club through two ton of shite that a hell of a lot of others wouldn't have/didn't, he decides eventually that it's even grimmer than when he had Gramham sounness as a gaffer that he has to leave, and he gets things like

"yeah but now hes leaving us in the shit!"

jesus christ lads catch a grip, there is no way in fucking hell anyone would sit through the same kind of nonsense in their own job, I sure as fuck wouldn't

look at Kinnear's quotes in the paper today for example, "I'd have given the lad 6 lashes with a cane".... this guy is in charge of the day to day running of the team and tactics/selection for our games...

were making say £16m on two transfers and what are we doing with the money

We've brought in one average joe at £4.5 who has nearly been relegated every year he's played in the prem, and a right back that fucking Wigan didn't mind getting rid off as a free trade..

we have 0 ambition, a tiny injury prone squad, a complete lack of strength and depth let alone quality all over the starting 11, key players who haven't even got long term contracts, a fat fucking cunt of an owner who apparently lost his entire fortune+200m more if our inept manager is to be believed, some cockney midget signing injured loan players and a casino boss as chairman

If many of us had the luxury of just supporting another team i'd say we bloody would and all, unfortunately we don't which is why day after day and week after week were watching games or posting rants on message boards complaining non stop about just how fucked we are currently.

STFU.

Do you support NUFC or Shay Given? B)

i support the club and I'm fucking embarrassed for it that it has fans as fickle as you

you clearly have no idea what the term loyalty is.

edit> and the irony of you having asprilla as your username, he played what 50 games and then? oh aye he fucked off back to Parma the club where he won 3 european medals

I'm loyal to the club.

Is NUFC better off WITH Shay Given or WITHOUT him?

Who's choice is it that he's leaving?
