I agree with you on the diving, feigning inury and screaming like girls stuff that is throughout modern football and i do like to see players like that given a good kicking, don't get me wrong! It was utlimately for me the team that played football is better than the spoilers who aimed to kick people and better for the game as well.

 

And i agree abouyt the overhyping as like you say they've hardly banged the goals in and aren't always too urgent, but Spain (though certainly more so Barcelona) are how i want to see football. 10 outfield players all comfortable on the ball, all can pass, great touch and vision etc.

I was expecting the Dutch mentality to be to take the game to Spain but instead all they seemed intent on doing was making it as stop-start as possible. This 'victory for football' crap is a bit annoying. Yes, Spain have a more attractive passing game and yes, the Dutch gave them a bit of a kicking, but the game I watched saw the Dutch carve just as many clear openings as Spain, and Spain picked up a couple of bookings as well. I think for Holland to go out and try anything other than what they did would have seen them lose by a larger margin. They made it less pretty, but it would have been an effective game plan if Robben didn't lose his bottle in front of goal.

My opinion of Webb's performance was that it was mixed - you could say one of Stevie's mates with a panic tendency could easily have sent 3 or 4 off but I thought he did well st stand up to the Spanish whingingand his attitude of not sending anyone off until he had to was correct. On the other hand I still think a couple of the cards were iffy - both of Hettinga's for example.

 

The corner late on was almost Poll-eqsue.

I don't mind him letting play go on for 40 seconds after Torres went down injured late on, because he had his back to the incident. For him to then pull play back from the Dutch advantage and book whoever it was for the foul but not give a free kick left me totally incredulous. I thought van Bommel was a disgrace all tournament. He's a cynical dirty player, he'd go out to hurt a player as much as could as long as he gets away with it. I don't think this is a new thing the dutch being dirty, they're usually so good technically you don't automatically think of them as dirty. For me one of the greatest players who ever played the game Bergkamp was a total dirty bastard, he was always leaving his foot in. van Bommel though biggest wanker in the tournament, comes across as supremely arrogant as well.

I can't remember that tackle, but there were many throughout his career.

 

See the key thing is in this tournament is moulding your team. It must be difficult at first having to adjust to playing with new players, which is why many teams take 3 games to settle in. The thing with Spain 6 of their starting 11 play together at Barcelona, I'm not saying it's an unfair advantage, but it definitely is a huge bonus for them, that there's not that much adjusting needing to take place.
