Due to the board being down I'm afraid you all missed the drama as BBC Sport slowly counted down Marco Gabbiadini's top 5 most skilful Sunderland players.

The list is as chock full of legendary players as you'd imagine.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/sunderland

They're doing Newcastle this morning, I'm expecting the standard to be slightly higher.

Oh I'm not sure. As tremendous players as they were, HBA in 5th and Waddle in 4th are definitely up for debate

Top 3 surely has to be Beardsley, Gascoigne and Ginola in no particular order.

Hmm, my best top 5 would be:

Albert Luque

Claudia Capaca

Andreas Anderson

Stephanie Guivarch

Jack Colback

Oh if we still had these players on our books. :(

Sat here frankly devastated that didn't come from your new boss :D

He's a dipper FFS.  There's 3 of em here and a 'UNITED' fan FFS.  At least they're not all CUNTS.  Well, fully :P

I'd have Waddle in for Ginola tbh...he was here 5 years and  actually achieved something in his time at the club, Ginola was here 2 years and spent half of that time in the huff because Keegan wouldn't let him go to Barca 😑

Tony fucking Green, Jinky Jimmy Smith.

Yep - both I'd have in ahead of HBA

Isn't the purpose to identify who the most skillful players we've had though? Admittedly Ginola could be a pain in the arse, but in terms of being skillful, there's not many got close. Anyway, he's 3rd.

Ive just noticed RTG has a members-only Politics section.

I can't imagine what goes on there (I probably can).

We were definitely in for Kennedy who decided to play for his team rather than his old club, (probably had bad memories of our old board?) anyway he was, like Gates, going to the third division whilst we finished 8th in division one. A lucky escape for us. If Charlton wanted Gates in 84 that would've been a decent signing then but seeing the forwards he bought he seems a little small and mobile for Charlton?

Friend who knows him said he was asked to go there to get them out of that division. Which he did. 🙂

That's what McMenemy said his task was and he definitely delivered although he had to get Stokoe to close the deal at the very end iirc?

Aye. Didn’t McMenemy resign but instead of informing the club did it via an exclusive interview in The Sun? I think the Mirror depicted him as a rat caricature in response. Then Stokoe took over for the last few games but couldn’t keep them up?

So Howey's top 5 skillful Newcastle players of all time end up being:

1st Beardsley

2nd Gascoigne
3rd Ginola
4th Waddle

5th Ben Arfa

Sunderland:

Eric Gates.

Sebastian Larsson

Stephane Sessegnon

Michael Bridges

Billy Hughes

NUFC:

Beardsley

Gascoigne

Ginola

Waddle

Ben Arfa

Very hard to pick a combined five out of those two lists but I've had a go so don't all pile on at once, it's just a football opinion after all.

NUFC and SAFC combined radio Newcastle most skillful players based on Gabbiadini and Howey's lists:

Beardsley

Gascoigne

Ginola

Waddle

Ben Arfa

Some tough decisions but these five just shade it. Didn't think it was going to be so hard tbh.
