ANd btw, to be pedantic decimate means reduce by 10%. They are going to be more than decimated. ;)

To be pedantic that may be the origin of the word but is not the only literal meaning of the word today.

The trouble with pendants is they can't resist correcting other people's mistakes.

I spent a good five minutes looking at this sentence before I saw it.

Aside from being obviously hilarious that would DECIMATE the Conservative's finances. Dodgy donors would pull the plug and they would get very little short money. It could see them out of power for a generation.

Funding and donors are already heading Labour's way. Tories are in a death cycle.

Serious question, does the Monarch have the authority to step in if he feels it's unduly damaging? I'm not sure of the constitutional rights of the sovereign.

Technically aye, it would be absolutely unprecedented and would probably see the end of the monarchy, so, crack on Chaz!

It would create a constitutional crisis and would probably lead to any ambiguity being fixed by law. Not that I think he would do it anyway.
In Australia the Governor General (the Monarch’s representative) can still I think sack the PM there. They certainly did that in the 70s and ordered a general election. Although I don’t even think that’s comparable because I think there was an issue of the PM’s party not controlling one of the houses and not being able to pass legislation

Actually the original meaning was to kill one in ten of a group by the other nine.

The greek literal translation of pedant is cunt.

It's actually "slave who escorts children to school" i.e. nonce, but cunt is close enough
