The Entirely Reasonable Potential Transfers Thread

I fear the "steal Burnley's only striker" plan may have backfired! Decent signing for Burnley. Younger than Wood, scores more goals and half the price.

Let's hope he's a Luuk De Jong type donkey who can't hack it in the premier league

I don’t think that was the plan. It was a desperate situation given the Wilson injury / paucity of other striker options. We’ve picked up 4points in the two games. It’s unlikely that would’ve been the case without him. Burnley were always likely to buy in a replacement. But there’s a decent chance we get another one in and we’ll be in a position where a striker of Wood’s quality is our third choice. That would be a much better scenario than previously

Burnley probably ending up improving their team with the money we gave them was always a likely scenario.

Weghorst could do well there. Probably a better player than Wood from what I have seen from him in the past.

I have closely examined a youtube clip of Weghorst and can safely say that he is nearly as good as Luque, and that Assburg and the liked have some weak as piss defenders.

He looks like a good pick up for them, knows where the goal is though it's a much harder ask to score for Burnley in the PL than for Wolfburg in the Bundesliga so only time will tell.

Given what's happened over the whole Lingard thing, you know;

Well that'll scupper any loan move for Lingard.

dan burn feels like a player for now, rather than one to take to the next level - fair or harsh? surely has to be better than the likes of clark or lascelles but a step down from botman.

Burn will be a very useful squad player at the very least next season, should we stay up, knock on  wood. He may be limited in comparison to some of the names we've been linked with, but they wouldn't have been able to settle as quickly, or have the passion that a Newcastle supporter will have for the team. As for Henderson it's a no brainer to get him in if Lingard isn't happening. He's a better all round keeper than Dubravka for sure.

Probably. But him and Wood make us dangerous from set pieces for half a season.

And whilst they both probably go into our starting XI, after the Summer I would expect they become dependable subs to replace the likes of Clark and Lascelles

I would have thought that the primary objective is to improve the squad and try and avoid relegation. We have went for more reputable players but couldn't get them in. I am sure the club will be back for them in the Summer.

But the question is have the likes of Burn and Wood as I am sure he is the other plsyer supporters are questioning - will they improve and help us avoid relaxation?

The answer is yes.

Aye Burn is a good quality PL defender, which at the moment we have none of those in the CB position, something is going on with Fernandez and the rest are far too prone to error imo. He’s easily out best CB. While underwhelming compared to the rumoured players he’s still a very good upgrade on what we have.

Like KD mentioned he then becomes a squad player if we sign other higher up targets in the summer. Lloyd Kelly would be a good signing to go alongside Burn, one that could potentially grow with the side too.

But we need players for now. Clark and Lascelles shouldn’t even be cover ideally

i'm not saying he isn't welcome, but he's probably a plan b or plan c signing, right?

bruno and tripper are plan a signings - it's frankly incredible we are getting players of that quality given our predicament. always ambitious to think we could sign four or five at that level at this stage.

i think it's a bit like wood in that they both improve our squad and our chances of survival, but may end up as fringe players a couple of transfer windows from now.

or perhaps i'm being unfair on burn? i dunno, haven't seen that much of him

Honestly, I don't know. It was just the fact that we've been trying to sign a centre back all window, and the day before the window slams shut, it looks like we've finally got one, and your reaction read like a big long sigh. ;)
