He’d get booed at most big clubs. Thats just a given. That is football supporters for you across the board. I completely support his wishes to change clubs too. The overall reaction to it from all sides is fuckin ridiculous though. I suppose that’s a given too..this is the tweet I was on about, for me it is 1000 x worse than the booing itself…

Wasn't the issue he deliberately ran his contract down so Real get him for free and presumably he gets paid a fortune? Anyone is free to ply their trade where they want, but I'd not be happy with say Isak leaving for free.

Liverpool let TAA, Van Dijk and Salah get down to the last three months of their contracts. Whatever way you look at it they dropped the ball big time.

And presumably had to pay a fortune to the other 2 who are definitely getting to the latter stages of their careers.

Difficult to know really. Salah at least gave the impression to me he was playing hard ball with the club over his salary expectations.

I disagree. Liverpool would have completely discarded him if he was shite. He had a contract. It ran out. Thats football, as they say.

Whey that's what's wrong with football nowadays. No loyalty to the club or fans. Wor Jackie Milburn used to work down the pit in the morning, get the bus to the match with the rest of the lads, play in hobnail boots with a lacer the consistency of concrete, all for the price of half a pork pie. He didn't see the need to fleece the club and emigrate to Madrid. Proper men back in the day. Thank God there weren't any Holden McGroins back then.

 Let that be a warning. If you don’t abide by our ridiculous and completely mythical standards, we’ll all do a big boo at you as you’re on your way to the biggest club in the world for a gigantic pay rise. Some warning

Indeed. Furthermore TAA won't feel bad about leaving now and it guarantees he won't go back

Taiwo Awoniyi had been placed in an induced coma following his collision with the post on Sunday.

They need to bin off this stupid offside rule where they don’t flag immediately. It was only a matter of time before a serious injury was sustained in this period of play. It was so easily avoidable.

Get well soon, fella.

I don't think you can blame that. Injuries happen in football matches, it's not the job of the linesman to prevent an impossible to foresee injury. There's hundreds of these no flag incidents across a season and the vast, vast majority end up fine.

Unless the offside is blindingly obvious, I'm happy with them allowing play to proceed and checking it afterwards if there's a goal.

There'll be WAY more attacks incorrectly halted than there would be serious injuries averted.

I’ve no issue with the lino, it’s the ruling. It’s fucking stupid.

As Gemmill's post states, no it's not. 😛

I don’t think there’s an obvious perfect solution. Unless you can get the AI offside technology to eventually work in real time (or almost) but it’s difficult to see that with the nuances of phases of play / players not interfering. It does seem daft when someone receives the ball and they’re clearly about two yards off though to then let play continue.

Looks like we need a new rule for how far offside a player needs to be to flag immediately. It’s the only way.

We could have the VAR stop play for the referee to review if it would have been correct to flag

In any of you watched that game, you’ll know the offside was blindingly obvious. That’s the point I’m making. When it’s too close to call, let the phase play out. But everyone in the stadium knew it was offside. The commentators even said “the flag will go up here”.

Stupid rule. As Alex says there’s no perfect solution and they really need to see what can be achieved with AI / semiautomation.

I'd rather have 100 PL footballers in comas than see one Newcastle goal wrongly ruled out because of the linesman going too early with his flag.

I’d rather have 100 PL goals chalked off than see one Newcastle player hospitalised because of the linesman going too late with his flag.
