I hope to see Miley start too. Willock just doesnt seem to have that uncanny ball carrying ability from 2 years ago. Longstaff is Longstaff. I think it comes down to if Howe thinks Miley can exert himself enough physically.

I'd also like to see Miley start, but not really expecting it. Joelinton out for the season is a big miss, Miley with his size should bring more presence and physicality than Willock, and as I've said many times he's very good at retaining possession and with his range of passing his chemistry with other players will only improve with more time on the pitch.

Agreed. It'd be great to see Miley get the start. But it'll almost certainly be Willock imo (at least until we lose a game). Hopefully for everyone's sake he can recapture some form sharpish because he has looked off the pace for sometime now every time he comes into the side. Miley on the other hand has looked class every time he gets the opportunity. And the more he plays the better he'll get at his age.

Sounds like Little Joe is going to get the nod over Miley.

Quote

"We still have a lot of faith in Joe, and he's a like-for-like replacement really," said manager Eddie Howe. "He does a lot of his best work on the best work on the left of the pitch, as Joelinton does.

"He's got goalscoring instincts, he's a very attack-minded player, very quick and athletic, and he's a really good ball carrier.

"Let's not forget, he's had some important contributions this season, but yes, he probably needs that run of games to be at his very best."

You did.

As nice as the domestic trophy is, it won’t keep Isak here this summer or bring in much needed millions to help us catch upto the “big boys”.

The next 4 games will determine if we take that next step on the ladder or remain trapped in a PSR strangle hold and a stagnant squad.

Only so many miracles EH can pull off without CL money.

Its pretty simple.

“You… can… not  UNDERESTIMATE the SIGNIFICANCE and  the MAGNITUDE of these next 4 games and the DIFFERENCE between being a Champions League club and a Europa league club will have on its future’!

Craig Hope confirming I am right as usual.

CT IS Craig Hope. It all makes sense now.

That of course makes Gemmill CT’s bitch, as anyone with even a passing interest in this forum would have worked out more than a decade ago :cuppa:

Not saying it’s a long term concern but I think Miley perhaps lacks the athleticism Howe wants atm. I.e. in terms of getting around the pitch. I think it’s an aspect of his game that will improve with time. Long term he’s a better fit than Willock for the more possession based midfield we’ve become (when the best 3 are available). I agree with Gloom that it’s a tad unfair to write Willock off.

Agreed. Miley's still developing physically, you can see he's much more of a unit than he was last season, if that's still happening (his growth) they can't really push him stamina/athletic wise until he's stabilised and is fully who he will be, as it were.

I think he gets around OK, especially for his size but I do think Howe wants the attack minded focus and speed on the ball of Willock who will take more chances and run at defenders. Willock actually is quite physical in defense as well, and busts a gut getting around. Obviously he lacks the size and strength of Joelinton (and Miley) but he gives it a red hot go. He's not a 90 minute player because he keeps nothing in reserve, there's a point in most game where you see his legs go. I don't have a problem with this in attacking player in current times when you're afforded 5 substitutions.

Willock will 95% start. I just hope he can bring a little more end product than he has of late. He's the same percentage to be subbed off at some point when Miley will likely get a run.
