The young have been shafted by governments and corporations NOT the old, what utter bollocks, am sure "old" people went through life doing stuff on the basis of "muhahahahaha what can I do today to fuck it up for my kids and grandkids". Utter divisive/deflectionary tripe !!!! Is the world fucked up, absolutely, but it's not the fault of members of the general public irrespective of age. Good to have someone to blame, who's not the real person to blame though, job done. You'll disagree, so feel free to point out to me exactly what I (as 67 yr old) have done to shaft the young (in a non Gary Glitter way)??

Luiz Díaz Launches Legal Action Against Liverpool in Shock Wage Dispute "Luiz Díaz has launched legal proceedings against Liverpool Football Club in a sensational case that alleges the Colombian winger was paid below the legal minimum wage, in what legal experts are already describing as one of the most extraordinary employment disputes in Premier League history." "The 28-year-old, who joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 in a deal worth up to £50 million, claims he was “misclassified” under his employment terms and has been underpaid for substantial periods during his time at Anfield." "In court filings lodged with the Employment Tribunal Service this week, Díaz’s legal team argue that the player was compensated at a rate “far beneath statutory thresholds” due to a series of administrative errors and “non-standard contractual arrangements” that may contravene UK employment law. It is alleged that, for a portion of his initial 18 months at the club, Díaz was paid less than £10 per hour—well below the current national minimum wage of £11.44 for workers over the age of 23." "Liverpool have vehemently denied any wrongdoing, calling the claim “entirely without merit” and state that Díaz has at all times been paid in "full compliance with UK labour regulations and in accordance with his contract". Nevertheless, sources close to the player insist Díaz became aware of irregularities only after a recent audit by his new management firm revealed “systematic underpayment”." "While Liverpool are understood to be open to resolving the issue behind closed doors, club officials remain “deeply frustrated” that the matter has been brought into the public domain amid sensitive transfer negotiations elsewhere in the squad. Privately, figures at Anfield have questioned whether the legal manoeuvre may be part of a broader strategy to engineer a move away from the club, particularly given interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich in recent months."

Fuck. That's awful. 3 young kids too. Same happened to Jose Antonio Reyes a few years back -
Poor bloke - newly married, in the prime years of his career playing for the league champions. It's a tragedy and so shocking

Aside from paywalls, I don't know what the answer is to that. Even then, I've noticed how much shit the Athletic churns out and I can only assume it is trying to claw more money from ad revenue?

They're reporting his brother, also a professional footballer, was also killed.

Diogo Jota's died in a car crash. Two weeks after getting married -
Its not often the subject in this thread shocks me but this has. 10 days married. Life is cruel.
-
Oh, I get that. I'm just a bit of an old romantic,

On this point, I was watching the Geordie Journos thing last week and they were saying that because their business is so heavily linked to ad revenue, they have to write 10 (TEN) stories per day. Which is why Newcastle World are the biggest bellends going for misleading clickbaity headlines. And why you shouldn't be reading any of the shite that gets written on there.

Oof, bloody hell.

Jesus.

Holy fuck!! That's horrendous!

Same argument is said by purists for the Champions League. The issue in both instances is it doesn't allow for enough games to satisfy their primary objective - make a shit-ton of money. Establishing who is the best of the best is secondary.

So, only last week then.

I don't disagree with a lot of that. But in theory I quite like the idea of the best clubs from each federations best leagues playing each other to see who is the best in the world. But it should be just that, the best teams from the best leagues. Not the 4th or 5th best, not the winner of a cup. It should be English, Spanish, German, Italian champions vs the champions of Brazil, Argentina, US, Mexico, Japan, Korea etc. Have a simple knock out competition so teams only have to play 3 or 4 games even if they make it all the way to the final.

He's right though. The young have been inexplicably shafted by the old. I am much nearer the old camp than the young camp, and it still makes me feel sick tbh.
