Agree with that. Messi is the best I've seen by quite a margin. Ronaldo is impressive but doesn't float my boat in the same way, he does things that are incredible, his goalscoring speaks for itself but I've never seen him do something that seemed impossible. After that , for players I watched a lot, Ronaldinho at his best and Kaka around the time he won World Player of the Year were my favourites.

What was charlton actually like as a player? Games changed a lot but are there any players about at the moment who have a similar style?

A lot of french players who he'd have immediate sway over, I reckon Sissoko is one who would respond to him very positively. No lose situation here for a first time manager, if you succeed youve done so despite the board, if you fail (as long as you dont look as inept as carver) its the boards fault as far as the media are concerned and then you've got yourself on the managerial merry-go-round and will get a job elsewhere.

Anyone playing or planning to? Same as happened at most of his clubs, hes a pain in the arse to manage and not consistent enough with his moments of excellence to be worth it. Still more enjoyable to watch than anyone we have at the club anymore.
