I always expect people to stick to their principles, all the supreme court has done is set the situation out per the law, which is fair but if we change the law tomorrow then they'd update their ruling to reflect that. He can't hide behind them because he actually has the power to change the legals around this. And beyond that, in all honesty did anyone expect me not to attack him over it? He's a flip flopper on basically every single issue.

This video is a couple of years old now, following an essay JK Rowling wrote about trans issues - so this is a video response to that, but it covers a lot of the same stuff. These two are super reasonable btw, it's framed calmly and non-hysterically, and also are at pains to stress that they agree that women's rights need to be protected. I've timestamped the video to start at the bit relevant to this discussion (only 5 mins), but the wider video is an hour long and worth a watch if you have serious interest - I showed it to my mother once (socially right wing Christian) and it totally flipped her on the issue. Just leaving it here in case anyone is interested.

This is absolutely my main issue with it. I don't have any issue with the legal clarification, and all the issue with the sorts of people who are celebrating it and what it might enable next.

The problem with that sentiment, well meaning as it is, is whose job it becomes to tell them it doesn't. We can't just say 'women feel threatened therefore we have to do this' because if we took that line across all aspects of life then men wouldn't be allowed outside after 9pm (and there's far more evidence which could support that than there is for banning trans women in women's bathrooms). So we naturally say 'well it's the politicians who have to decide it then', except they only see this whole situation as a voter spinner either positively or negatively. They're not incentivised to do the 'right' thing, because they are responding to the noise in the public sphere. If the noise is entirely one sided and people don't speak up for a need for actual evidence before enacting policy, then... I mean I don't know where that leads us honestly, but nowhere good.

Aside from that, it's also generally a bit risky to have open discord links that are set to permanent. Could be massed joined by mackems, fans of other clubs, and yes... the many, many faces of Quiff.

Alright everyone - we've set up a basic discord server just in case of outages in future (and we created an emergency match thread channel too, just in case we get a repeat of this weekend!) There's no obligation at all to sign up to this, it is not replacing the main site, it's just there for when this falls over. We have no way to communicate with most people when this site goes down, so this could be a useful tool for that in future. I will add that if this site was ever irrecoverable for whatever reason, having the ability to contact everyone would help keep the community together. I'm not going to post the discord link publicly for obvious reasons, but if people could DM myself or one of the other mods directly, we can share the link privately. When you do sign in, please change your discord handle within the server to your TT username - or ping me on discord and I'll do it for you. Should the site go down in future, updates will be posted in the discord (as well as potentially via Patreon).

I like discord too but with an active community it can quickly become chaotic and I don't think you'd get as many distinct threads. You could turn on slowdown to suppress messages of course but I'm yet to see that be enacted in a way that isnt tedious. Also here you can browse a conversation at your leisure on a single topic. Discord you'd have a smaller group of channels meaning multiple simultaneous conversations all overlapping with each other. Some people would login and see they've missed 300 messages - they just won't read them, so conversations will become more focused on active participants rather than community discussion. I've been on discord for 8 years now, it's a great platform in many ways but I don't think it would be a suitable replacement for here. We'd lose members in the switch.

Discord is for active continuous mass conversation so the format wouldn't work as a replacement for here. Forums encourage longer form responses whereas discord is really just chat. But as a backup, I think it's a good idea. I had the same thought yesterday.

She actually came out against asexual people recently, as they had their awareness day and I guess she was bored and wanted to lash out at something. You have to wonder how asexual people are threatening women specifically?? I suspect she's now aligned against all LGBTQ. I mean hell she even protested trans people having their identified gender on birth and death certificates. How does that hurt or threaten women? She's full of shit and a bigot, like so many TERFs are.
