That's what the Lib Dems are for.

Get wor flags on the case! Very apt for the Gallowgate.

NaaH, Gemmill's post nailed it. You cant spin people's own experiences. I also think people are hugely overestimating the power of the legacy press here. Hardly any fucker reads them and when they do they are preaching to the converted. Loads of NUFC type of cognition bias here and poor analysis. Labour were annihilated last election for 3 reasons. Johnson, Brexit, and (most importantly imo) Corbyn. None of those are true any more. Johnson may come back, but he is no longer popular. Brexit is demonstrably a disaster with no tangible benefits 6 years on. Corbyn has been well and truly defenestrated. Don't worry about the tories now, worry about the country instead. We're in a tail spin and it's going to be hard for anyone to pull out of it.

I can't see any of these policy decisions causing a boom either, not even a short term one. Because the thresholds have been held static, you need to be on 150k or more to get any tax relief. Then utility bills are still going up, interest rates too. Corporation tax is staying ridiculously low but that hasn't encouraged any investment because of Brexit. The BoE raised interest rates by 0.5% this week and Stirling still tanked. Let that sink in, we are in major trouble here. Truss can't bullshit the market. Then she's introducing universally toxic policies like fracking. I'd put her chance of winning a GE at less than 1%.. I think its unlikely she'll get a chance to fight a GE personality. This isn't remotely like the boom and bust we saw in the 80s and 90s under your favoured government CT, the situation is much more grave and the quality of our leadership to handle this has never been worse. And we are alone, out of the EU. The only thing that gives me cause for optimism is a complete crash might bring in fundamental change. But then I look at Starmer and my hope fades.

Yeah, we've talked about this. You're making an assumption of competence here, probably misplaced.
-
Informative and depresing, cheers.
-
Oh, hold on [checks notes], no, he's a corbynite nowadays.
-
Woohooo, we are going for the full banana republic here, both pollitically and economically.
-
Apparently if you earn less than 155k you're a low income worker. Nice to know.
-
Honestly, I do feel for you situation, you have been shafted by this government on every level.
-
Suits you sir.

Pound down 3% against the dollar, and 2% against the euro. Interest on bonds up 0.5%. These cunts have managed to completely fuck the country in less than a month! Stirling work Truss.
-
Interest rates set to hit 5% next year now, with the BoE pulling in the opposite direction to the treasury. Who's mortgage is on a variable or on a fixed up for renew soon? Half of mine is on a tracker which is a a bit of the kick in the balls. The reduction in stamp duty will be more than countercted by affordability criteria of the new rates I think.
-
Well aye, quite.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking along both your lines, this is a last ditch gamble for them. Somehow this trigger a growth boom and somehow they will be re-elected on the back of this. And if it doesn't work out this way, then let Labour clear up the mess.
-
That only goes to the top decile too. Increase the detail to the top percentile, and you'll see an exponential curve covid would be proud of.

"Around 660,000 top earners will gain £10,000 on average from abolition of highest rate of income tax, Treasury admits". Unfortunately for Truss, that 1% still only have 1% of the votes (although I am sure they would like to change that). Edit: fooking Gemmill beat me to it.

The polls, when done correctly, are entirely accurate within their range of uncertainty. It's a bit of a myth the polls were wrong about Brexit, or any other major political events. They have always been within the range of uncertainty or confidence limits. Labour currently have a huge lead in the polls that means the confidence intervals aren't even close to overlapping. I think this will only increase personally. I'm primarily worried about what will be left of the country for them to inherent and whether Starmer has the cajones for real change. Not much and no are my guesses on these questions.
-
On a related note, I've heard that travelling to or holidaying in the US is extrotionately expensive now compared to a decade ago. Don't know if this is true or not as I have no desire to go over there, but this won't help. More fat old retired Americans in London though, yay.
-
Borrowing is fine for things like building infrastructure. Tax cuts, not so much.
-
Everybody notices their own pocket though. And people do notice the figure head, Johnson proves that. Truss has more than neutralised Starmer's personality vacuum. Is there much point on arguing on the basis of anecdotes anyway? The polls continue to tell the real story.
-
I'm pretty sure even Thatcher didn't borrow to this extent to fund tax cuts for the rich. These cunts are literally going to bankrupt UK PLC. We've discussed this all before, but taking a stept back, both Truss and Kwarteng are author of Brittania Unchained, a revolting pamphlet that reads like it was written by Enfield's tory boy. HOW THE FUCK have we let these arse clarts to come into power? If you believe in infinite universes, ours must be at the extreme end of the spectrum, like flipping a coin on heads a million times in a row, to end up with these cunts.
-
It'd be funny if I could attribute that entire post to the unnamed tory MP. I bet it's what they are thinking.
-
Labour absolutely have no excuse not to anihilate these cunts next election. I'm talking about ripping off their heads, pissing down their spinal cords, and setting them alight with lighter fuel type of annihilation. It will probably be too late by then of course, but fucking hell, this is not a budget to win an election with.
