  1. My concern is he will get in, but will not provide the complete change in the constitution the country desperately needs. A slow rather than a quick death.
  2. Because she is already perceived as a loser unable to win a GE, and that is all most tory MPs care about, certsainly the 2019 intake. Rumour has it there were already a dozen letters sent to Brady the day she was appointed. The tory party can't come together, they are irreconcilably broken. The question of how much damage the next 2 years can do to us is valid though.
  3. Some russian MP on R5 says London will be nuked if Liz Truss remains PM. I'm no fan of Truss but that's a bit much. Does look like we are heading for a potentially dangerous situation.
  4. Her policies are worse but will she even last 2 years? I can also see a few diplomatic disasters ahead. I see her latest flagship policy is to reduce stamp duty, again. The age old tory con of propping up house prices.
  5. I don't think he has Xi's support in this though, and also when was the last time CHina were involved in a physical war? I reckon he's desperate. Redraw the map and get the nukes out. Maybe.
  6. Yeah, it will be interesting to see what she can get through Parliament since her policies are the death knell for many MPs. Ian Dunt thinks there will be ANOTHER leadership challenge before the next GE which surely will inflict even more damage on this rotten ridiculous party. There will be no trade deal with the US, Truss has admitted this. If there was it would mean different (lower) food standards which would be incompatible with the SM and preclude any future membership. Just as well its not happening, although I think similar issues may apply to the Autralian and NZ deals. I would imagine we would need to withdraw from these if we ever want to rejoin.
  7. Any opinions on the latest developments? Seems like Putin is going to carry out some fake referenda in the East so he can claim Russia itself is being attacked and can fully mobilise for war. This would also allow for the use of nuclear weapons according to the Russian constitution. I think this is last throw of the dice stuff from him. He's lost his only allies and conscription will not go well. He seems quite desperate which is always a dangerous place to be.
  8. By a few thousand senile pensioners tbf.
  9. No she's not. She has zero charisma and won't last a year. Dangerous politicians are always charismatic (to some at least). Most the damage she inflicts can be quickly reversed if Starmer has the will.
  10. Truss has read the room well. The woman is a moron. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/sep/20/liz-truss-urges-world-leaders-to-follow-uk-with-trickle-down-economics
  11. Aye, and I see the narrative from Labour was the lack of a deal was some kind of disaster, presumably full well knowing: 1) Any deal would be ruinous for UK farmers. 2) It would make rejoining the single market impossible. 3) it's only estimated to be worth a poxy 0.2% GDP anyway. There is no honesty with either party when it comes to anything Brexit related and it's fucking sickening.
  12. Celebrating Russians are we now? Why do you hate our country so much MF?
  13. Interesting comment from Biden. Meanwhile Truss is justifying tax cuts, de facto govenment subsidies to energy businesses making record profits, and saying fairness isn't important.
  14. He's definitely got his grandfather's lineage iyam.
  15. So many things that should have catastrophically destroyed the Windsor brand have happened, but yet the last 10 days. It's like the tories getting voted in time and time again, it defies any logic. Maybe we're just a nation hard wired to be sycophantic hoop lickers, I dunno, can never get my head around it. Maybe it will be different with Charles, who does not have the respet of the Queen, we'll see.
  16. I'm almost there too until I remind myself the BBC is a lot more than just a news channel. I think the argument it improves overall broadcasting quality through its high end documentaries and dramas is lessened now, but holds some weight. To put it another way, I think our TV network compares very favourably with others, especially the US, which is what the tories will want to emulate. Probably getting less relevant every year now though with so many streamng channels. As for news, only channel 4 news is bearable to me.
  17. So, about 250,000 people queued to see the Queen's coffin. I think they're mad, but worth pointing out this is 0.4% of the population. Probably less, as the BBC interviewed some fruitcases that queued twice!
  18. In their eyes Harry's "crime" is much greater. This just proves it and says it all about this family.
  19. You reckon? I mean, Charles, who fantasised about being a tampon, was also close friends with Savile. He's either a bit noncey himself or massively gullible, neither of which are good qualities for a monarch.
  20. I wish I had this power. It would be impossible for me not to completely abuse it mind!
  21. Agree change the thread title back but I don't think there is any hypocrisy in the 50 odd pages of discussion. If you live in the UK this will have impacted your life in quite a major way these past 2 weeks.
  22. Uncle got 3 quotes for a new roof on his bungalow this year, cheapest was still 40k. This is Glasgow.
  23. Is that voter base really big enough? Also plenty of people sioners don't vote tory, none of my family do.
  24. Yeah, good point t about the labour shortages, nothing is being done to address that. Pretty soon these shortages will be worse as UK workers leave for Poland to pick fruit, the way things are going.
  25. The Metro newspaper is informative this morning. 32 advert less pages of the Royal Funeral, not a shred on the news of anything else. Last night R5 decided to repeat the audio of the entire funeral. I hope the grief keeps us all warm this winter. I've never felt any emotion at all about the queen dying, just a feeling of bewilderment and fear that the country can behave like this in a time of crisis. But thinking about it, it does seem quite likely that the queen passing does mark the final end of an age for the UK where we were a prosperous and influential country. Now we are just a pound shop USA with a health service added on. The rot started properly 12 years ago but the end of the Elizabethan age may set a hard marker for this country's decline. Hope I am wrong.
