  1. I think some of the older ones are right about the term geordie being applied to anyone from the North East, still is outside the area. Well known they chanted it when they won the FA cup. But they didn't like being associated with us when we the Entertainers, so they adopted an insult we created for them to be known as, and now are upset because no bugger else outside the North East knows what it means or even where Sunderland is. Cutting off your nose to spite your face really, but that's being a mackem for you.
  2. I know, in truth only kept an ST as part of the 10 year deal and to encourage the kids to get into the football. In the Ashley years I quite frequently gave them away (as nobody would buy the fuckers) and sometimes they weren't used at all. It's worked out well though, cos the kids aren't that bothered about going but they are getting to the age they can be left with friends/relatives more easily. But I am a bit worried about price increases now demand is so high tbh.
  3. Getting to see the matches now is my reward for being a scab during the bad Ashley years. The irony being I doubt any ST boycotts had any effect on our purchase ultimately but I am feeling somewhat rewarded for suffering under Bruce when it was a fucking chore to go to the game, about akin to visiting the dentist. I guess alcohol helped looking back. Fucking wish I had kept my superior seats in the East stand though instead of moving to the NW corner. Would have been perfect for me now, best view of the match, blanket on me knees and a thermos flask.
  4. The mackems are engaging in one of their usual monthly obsessions on what they should call themselves. Apparently we stole the term Geordies from them, several centuries before Sunderland actually even existed.
  5. It's true, he had some wierd hip anatomy that lad. I literally can't remember anything about Vernon Anita except he had a Kim Kardashian arse and walked like a duck.
  6. Agreed. I mean I would be delighted with 4th and quite frankly pretty disappointed with 5th or less at this stage. But some of me just thinks..... maybe? I think Leicester doing the seemingly impossible has skewed my thinking on this but I can see parallels and us winning it wouldn't be as big a shock that tbh. This morning I looked back on this amazing streak ManU were supposedly on and in reality it isn't that impressive, they have won a lot of games by narrow margins which is why their goal difference is shit compared to ours. We have to play Arsenal, Spurs, Man United, and Liverpool at home and honestly I fancy a result in all those fixtures. We've won one and drawn the rest of the corresponding away fixtures (alright, Liverpool was a loss but shouldn't have been). Anyway, it's a cliche but all we have to do is focus on ourselves (with no FA cup or Europe to distract us). The other teams can take care of themselves. And a lot will depnd on our injuries and any signings we make. ALso looked at Man City's development when they were taken over. It surprised me how long it too them to establish themselves, we are miles ahead of them at this stage. Howe has done an amazing job.
  7. William Hague part blames Brexit for the collapse of British Volt.
  8. For me, a simple coffee percolator works, no need to grind your own beans or any shit like that. Inexpensive, hassle free, Americano (with milk). Unfortunately I can't stand the taste of normal granular instant coffe now as a result. Btw @Blastronaut, I can guarantee you absolutely honked when you were smoking. Since smoking indoors has been banned virtually everywhere, us non-smokers can smell you from 100 yards, you absolute stinker.
  9. Modern life. By rights we should be well on the way to having stress free lives, with technology having ssorted out all our problems. No work, no money, sipping blue synthahol cocktail, getting noshed off by filfthy Romulans (maybe). Instead NOTHING FUCKING WORKS the way its supposed to. Fuck technology, bring back paper bills charged in sixpence pieces and meat delivered by the butcher boy.
  10. That's shit MF, stuff like this can be really stressful. I had a BG service last week and although everything is tickety boo (should be, the whole system is only 3 years old) we failed the service because THOSE CUNTS AT EDF WON'T GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER OVER MY SMART METER. Beyond a joke now like, we had to get a new smart meter installed when we did the rennovation, and it has never worked. So the BG engineer could't verify the gas flow, hence the fail. Worse, we literally have no idea what we are using and haven't been billed for over a year, which in the current climate, is stressful. Had 3 people out, say the meter is fine, but it still won't connect. We've escalated our complaint as far as we can within the company, they ignore all complaints by e-mail. Impossible to get through to anyone remotely competent. Oh yeah, they also said they would put up our DD up to £850 per MONTH without explaining on what basis. So anyway, we want to leave EDF. However, am I right in understanding smart meters only work for the company who installed them?
  11. Is this peak mackem, or was that the lad who went to the match with a cheese slice in his pocket so he could convert his hamburger into a cheese burger? You could invent a whole new field of psychology based on these mad fuckers.
  12. County Durham marra. Honestly though, that board is just mental. The classiest fans now have a 740 post (currently, since Saturday night) almost entirely fictitious thread on how hard their hooligans are. Meanwhile the mods and admin have to play constant whackamole removing threads on us to their hidden compendium thread when they arise in an attempt to stop them publicly embarrassing themselves. As has been said, fuck knows what the meltdown there will be like WHEN we win something.
  13. I heard ages ago that the people behind the Blyth plant were spivs on the take with tax payers money. Probably tory donors, mates of Boris. So comes as little surprise. This government is killing industry in this country. I take wiki's point that battery driven cars bring their own issues but like it or mot they seem to be the future and with no viable battery plants the auto industry is fucked in this country. As PL says, Brexit is another nail in the coffin because of rules of origin.
  14. Well this definitely happened. I regularly get the metro to Seaburn to bray mackem bairns. Who doesn't like a bit of mackem bairn braying? US collleagues are clearly up for it too.
  15. Wood to Forest, and headline writers and PUNdits jism everywhere. As for Excel spreadsheets, they're the most fun I've had since visiting Alton Towers.
  16. The mackems and their imagination again. I imagine in this scenario Newcastle fans would we standing on each shoulders 20 high and SJP average attendance would be 1 million.
  17. Don't know about anyone else but I only go now to show my good will for Eddie Howe. If we get to Wembley I will continue to show my good will begrudgeonly.
  18. Why was she taking her cat out to the takeaway at 2 in the morning???
  19. So Sunak has blocked the Scottish gender recognistion bill, citing it could have consequences for the UK as a whole. Without getting into the specifics of the bill, funny how Brexit affected the UK as a whole but the Brexiters didn't give a shit how it impacted on Scotland who voted against it. How anybody can fail to recognise that there is a constitutional crisis and Scotland has a genuine, not made up, issue with its sovereignty is beyond me. Scottish independence needed, right now. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/16/rishi-sunak-blocks-scotlands-gender-recognition-legislation
  20. They'll always be able to console themselves they are better *insert imaginary quality here*. More classy, more moral, more liked. Or the latest thing, their charvers are harder.
  21. Don't particularly want to get into this as I don't want to appear to be defending drink driving but for me the most important thing isn't the club showing some public punishment for a player who by all accounts is remorseful, but to provide adequate pastoral care and make sure it doesn't happen again, to him or any other player. I don't get the impression the current players we have are irresponsible dickheads in the way they previously have been (e.g. under Robson) but obviously I'm not privvy to any of that, but I don't see newspaper headlines to contradict this. I would say though that the time when Darren Gibson wrote off half a street of cars, they publicly sacked him, knowing full well he was also a liability on the pitch and therefore no loss. In contrast, they played a player they knew to be a paedophile who happened to be essential to for them to avoid relegation. But that's not my point. Watching that Netflix documentary it was crystal clear Gibson had huge problems with alcohol prior to his crash, and the club seemed to provide zero pastoral care for him. Just put a young man, an alcoholic, up to live in Ramside Hall ffs. And then washed their hands.
  22. Fucking hell. See this is why I don't use eBay, scammers paradise.
