Obertan is a young kid, coming from a club where he wasn't favoured and was clearly lacking in some sort of belief. At times, he's looked shite aye but away from home, he's been decent because he breaks well. He's on a 3 year deal; if we're having this conversation next season and he hasn't improved, he'll be sold, a cheap gamble that didn't come off. If he morphs into a canny little player, it's a cheap gamble that worked. Haven't seen a lot of Marveaux (who has?) but his cushioned assist for Cabaye against Wigan and some tidy play at Everton and Blackburn in the cup suggests a player who is at least good technically and can worry defenders. But really, at this point, comparing the two is a loaded question that invites criticism to Obertan (not that he hasn't deserved any at times).

Depends if he's motivated by the cash. It's a hard offer to turn down but just look at the last 10 years or so of England management. We took Capello, one of the best managers of this generation, and basically turned him into a joke because the media overrate us to a daft degree. Pardew's a young manager, will have a growing reputation if he continues this sort of work and the England job fucks managers over tbh. Think he's astute enough to knock it back.

Pardew said on Talksport that he can't see any job taking him away from us atm. The England job isn't worth having if you want to improve your career anyway IMO, the current crop are almost impossible to manage as a collective.

How have we got there then? Their slump has happened after they were knocked out of EL and we have key players like Simpson, Coloccini, Cabaye and Gutierrez who have played nearly every game. They'll never recover if that's the attitude in the dressing room; between us and Chelsea now.
