  1. He's a far more eloquent and interesting writer than most sports journalists judging by what I've seen him write. Still a complete idiot, but credit where it's due. Great quote about Kinnear.
  2. SHEARER! SHEARER! SHEARER! etc (x 1,000)
  3. I echo the sentiments of everyone else here. Really hope she's found mate.
  4. It's strange how his spell at Newcastle United is always missed out when people judge his managerial ability. But then the dreadful tactics, performances, results etc were obviously because he wasn't given "time" and not because he was in any way clueless.
  5. Andrew were you really that devastated or were you more concerned about your parents' views? Because if this really matters to you, then you shouldn't take no for an answer whatsoever as it's completely out of hand. I'm pretty sure most academic staff would rather you failed one exam and got a first on the rest than scraped a pass on all of them, yet the latter would keep you on the course. I know loads of people who have failed January exams at my uni (Newcastle) - don't think there's any engineers, but some medics I'm quite sure. I've got a friend who is doing town planning which I'm sure isn't as "good" a degree but he he failed four of his first semester modules and didn't get any firsts and he's still here.
  6. I'm doing it this year. Raising money for an orphanage project in Tanzania I'm doing this summer.
  7. Are you arguing we should have given Roeder, Allardyce and Souness longer ? Personally, they've appointed a good manager, we on the other hand have appointed a succession of muppets. Definatly. Major mistake you did was not giving Allardyce enough time. Obviously you watched our games and saw the genius positive tactics, clever team selections and masterful handling of substitutes from Sam "but look at his success at Bolton" Allardyce.
  8. What a dreadful match. Think we defended well though. Bassong and Enrique in particular were very good.
  9. Yeah he's crap and should never have got the contract, but I still don't understand why when any other player makes a mistake it gets pointed out but there doesn't tend to be any insult accompanying it. With Ameobi there's normally a reference to him being a f***ing retarded t**t or something similar for the same sort of thing.
  10. Sat recon and all that. Sounds very interesting. I studied that for a bit and found the concept interesting but the actually practical work was incredibly dull. For the record I'm doing a geography degree, so yeah I guess I'm not a true "academic", but I will hopefully have some kind of job upon graduation. I see that as a sensible aim personally. I'd hope I don't come out of uni having learned all about the credit crunch then not get a job because of it.
  11. Only found out news of his death yesterday and was shocked. He was part of what made TMS so great to listen to and will be sorely missed. RIP.
  12. Hansen's a rare really good pundit. I have no problem with him having a dig at our defending if it truly is laughable. Both him and Lawro tend to give credit to us when it's deserved. The difference is Lawro is a crap pundit.
  13. Very sad - football needs more people like him in the game. That said, he is a very old man and death is inevitable. Here's hoping he dies peacefully.
  14. Funniest bit imo. How dreadful it was sacking managerial mastermind Big Sam Allardyce when Newcastle were in a stunning 11th place!!!!!
  15. Disagree. There's plenty of good bands out there to go with the rubbish. The majority of people I find who say it's all rubbish are just people who have heard a few songs by Slipknot/Limp Bizkit - hardly the best evidence to go by. As for the fans, a lot of them are annoying, especially the ones who go round thinking they're "F***ING METAL \m/" but many of them are normal too believe it or not. And you can make untrue generalisations about fans of all types of music - for example indie-snobs in their tight jeans and clutching NME like it's their Bible, and hip-hop/rap fans as thinking they're from da hood and like their guns and bling. http://www.last.fm/group/ANTI-METAL/forum/52734/_/352567/1 Because some strange people on an internet music forum obviously know everything.

  17. After going to the match, I now really couldn't care less that Michael "world-class finisher" Owen will leave this summer. It's a shame he doesn't get much support, but he's still a shadow of his former self.
  18. My best mate was really annoyed that's not going to happen because his grandad played in goal for both teams back in the day. As for Milwall, should really be an easy win, taking us to the fifth round for the first time since Souness' first year.
  19. Really sad when these things happen, but terribly selfish also. I've felt remotely suicidal at times and I'm sure many people have, but life can be made worthwhile with a change of attitude towards it and surrounding yourself with positive things. It's sad that guy chose to commit suicide, but he had family and responsibility - you just can't kill yourself in those situations, however bad you feel at the time. Thinking about killing yersel is scary enough, nerver mind actually doing it! Aye, I must make clear I haven't really thought about that (definitely a scary thought) - what I meant more was that in previous times I've felt like I've rather been dead, but I'm sure these are typical moods for a lot of people that can be changed with a bit of effort and perseverance. When I feel bad I tell myself how lucky I am that I have a great family and great friends etc. Suicide just seems selfish and giving up to me, but then again I've not thought about the topic a lot.

  21. Definitely, for both parties. Though what can be effectively done to solve the problem is a tough question to answer.
