Sometimes I don't think he is learning fast enough. I think he is slow in making his substitutions when it is obvious to the onlooker a change should be made. Against Everton Routledge was not having much of an impact, Hughton should have replaced him with Jonas at halftime. I sometimes think Smith is getting unnecessary flak when you consider he gained prominence as a striker. Maybe he would be an asset behind Carroll or up front with him. I hope Wilson can do better than Perch when he is fit. By the way, if you've missed me doing the odd post, I've been in Gateshead and around for 5 weeks. Was at the Villa & Blackpool matches, talk about High & Low. It's about opinions really but Smith playing anywhere near the attacking third is just mental. I assume by Wilson you meant Simpson? Hughton does take way too long with subs, one of Sir Bobby's main criticisms was substitutions, some managers just seem to not like them very much. Imo Hughton has shown he is very willing to learn and not just be a stubborn cunt like a lot of our recent managers. I stand corrected Gejon, I meant Simpson, haven't a clue why I put Wilson, old age I guess.

where did the "big four" expression come from?
Noelie replied to parkinpants's topic in Newcastle Forum
Actually the expression Big Three, Big Four, Big Five, is as old as the hills and refers to many things including football, music, leaders, companies, etc etc. There was a Big Four as far back as WW1, and who can forget the Big Three in WW2. Can't say BIG ANYTHING is only related to football and was certainly not invented to only refer to Arse n'all, MAN Ure, Chelski, & Liverpill. -
But what if at the end of the 3 months he's not the player he was. Some players are never the same after knee surgery.

Welcome To Glasgow - Advice On Your Visit To Glasgow
Noelie replied to luvly_jubbly's topic in Newcastle Forum
I've got an image of you as Frank Sinatra in 'On The Town' now Noelie. What year do you reckon it was out of interest? My eyes are hazel manc-mag ....My discharge book shows a voyage starting from London in September 1954 and docking in Glasgow in January 1955. It shows the ship was in Glasgow for 8 days before returning to home port London. I recall that voyage took in the Canary Islands, Brasil, Uruguay, and Argentina, and bonnie Scotland. -
Welcome To Glasgow - Advice On Your Visit To Glasgow
Noelie replied to luvly_jubbly's topic in Newcastle Forum
Only been to Glasgow once and that was in my seafaring days an' it had nowt to do with football. Two things I remember most was the pubs were shut doon on Sundays and the only place you could get a drink was in a hotel if you lied and said you were a travelling salesman. Me an' me mates said we were travellers in steel. The high-light was been hoyed oot of a dance hall on a Sat'duh neet cos the two lads I was with had too many Bell's & Mac's before we went in. -
The resources at his disposal are every player in the world who is not injured, old enough, and eligible to play for England. That gives him a wide choice of players good or bad, but his choice of Phillips over Johnson, Lennon over Walcott, injury prone King. past it Carrager, and tuppense a ride Heskey, to name a few makes me think he didn't study his resources or alternatives well enough. I'll give you SWP over Johnson but is Walcott any better than Lennon? Especially on form leading up to the tournament. Also, you have a pop at him for some other selections but don't give alternatives. I think that illustrates Brummie has a point. I wasn't really taking a pop at Brummie Alex, what I was doing was pointing out that there are a lot of resources open to an England manager and it's a question of how good his search is. That bloke scoring goals for Blunderland might have been a better option than non-scoring tuppence a ride Heskey. Perhaps Cappello should have looked beyond the Premier League and established England players, there has to be those aspiring to reach stardom. .

Wayne Rooney is my No.1 standout player in this World Cup so far. His ineffectiveness in the role of England's leading striker has not been overshadowed by anyone. My No.2, No.3, No.4 etc etc are the entire English team who stand out as the most hyped-up squad who were abysmal failures in representing their country.

I take it you mean til the next Water Closet

Jurgen Klinsman said it best in an after-match opinion. He said that the English team looked tense from the beginning. And they were from beginning to end, not one of them looked comfortable in what they were doing and it showed.. Capello OUT. When you are 4 - 1 down you don't put in a player that has a history of NOT scoring goals for his country.
-
mmmmm it's like an old war story. France surrenders early. The Yanks come in late, We face the Germans.
-
Huh? explain please.
-
I don't think Milner's confidence would suffer too much from being taken off, He was recovering from a stomach upset or something, he knew that, Capello knew that too and and shouldn't have started him until he was 100% over it. Milner would know that his poor showing was due to lack of fitness and would be chomping at the bit to make amends. Barney, Rooney had a poor 90 minutes in the first game against the USA and continued to be even poorer against Algeria. Perhaps he can win 3 points on his own but how long do you wait to see if he will. I honestly think he should have been taken off in the second half against Algeria, he was contributing absolutely nowt.
-
I don't hesitate to say that Capello has a lot to do with the rubbish served up by the England team. For openers Rooney should have been taken off, he had no impact on the game in either half, in fact he was a waste of space. To take Lennon off and replace him with Wright-Phillips does not speak highly of Capello's management skill. He saw how useless he was against the USA and he has Joe Cole twiddling his thumbs on the bench. Hesky off, Defoe on. Is his mind set against using Joe Cole. Barry off, Crouch on, why not Milner who must be over his problem. Who did he expect to feed Crouch? Carrager is gone with 2 yellow cards so who will Capello go with against Slovenia, Upson or Dawson, or does he have a card up his sleeve. Maybe he should have taken Anon.Lampard off and given Carrick a try. There wasn't one player who impressed or put his stamp on the game.

There is so much wrong with that statement. Pray tell me what is so wrong? It was not the fault of any attitude that Britain lost the Empire. Empires collapse plain and simple none last forever due to them being the product of conquest. Sooner or later the conquested nation starts to learn and manages to overthrow the imperial power. Perhaps what you say is true, but not entirely. The likes of India, Australia, New Zealand etc etc did not "overthrow" the imperial power. India for instance was gramted independence. In actual fact Britain adopted a policy of peaceful disengagement from its colonies. Could that be construed as attitude?

Milner was anonymous unless he was putting a tackle in. I would have started Joe Cole. Lennon was anonymous in the first half. Did a little better in the second but we were wingless in the first half. Yawn Right Phillips lost about every ball in his dribbles and he should have scored.. I would have brought on Joe Cole. Heskey belongs on the sands at Whitley Bay. He should have scored but that's wishful thinking. We were shite in the first half but picked up in the second. Would have won had it not been for Green's schoolboy blunder. Capello had better put his thinking hat on cos he wasn't thinking in this game.

Not being funny Noelie, but The Gooch is the yank in Italy and despite being noble hasn't really done anything. Also, I wouldn't be wholly impressed by an American plying his trade in 4 of the leagues you mention. I understand what you're saying Mr.Fish and agree to some degree but when you consider that some of the Yankee players are on the books of Frankfurt, Hanover, Gladbag, Rennes, Rangers, Everton, Fulham, Aston Villa, Wolves, Hull, Bolton, West Ham, they must have shown something to get signed on, and that's why I say we shouldn't take them lightly. in fact no team in the World Cup should be taken lightly as surprising results happen. I said they shouldn't be taken too lightly

Any supporter of NUFC, or supporter of football in general, who can't voice support for their nation's representative team in international competition, is indicative of the attitude that lost us the fucking Empire. I will be glued to the telly on Saturday, sweating buckets that we don't lose to the Yanks.

Interesting. Some years ago, can't remember exactly when, but I was 'home' on holiday and the season was about to start. People said I could get a ticket for the first match if I went over to St.James' Park and met up with a tout. I did that and paid twice the face value which was about 50 quid.. Inside the park prior to kick-off I got talking to a couple of lads and the subject of tickets and how I got mine came up. They were really pissed-off I had to pay so much and one of them called Steve gave me his phone number and said if I ever had a problem and wanted a ticket, give him a call. Next home game I was having difficulty so I called him, sure enough he got me a ticket, we met and he charged me face value. Never had occasion to call him again. I may still have his phone number if it's still good, and who knows? I'll be back in August and might need help. Just goes to show there are some genuine Geordies out there taking care of their own.

Shouldn't take them too lightly, 19 of their squad are on the books of overseas clubs. 8 with English clubs. 2 with a Scottish club. 3 with German clubs. 2 with Mexican clubs 1 with Italian club 1 with French club 1 with Norwegian club 1 with Danish club. only 3 are with Yankee clubs, Donavon who plays for the LA Galaxy being one of them.

and he's seen every NUFC match since 1927 Sharpen-up on yer sums. 2010-1927= 83 ..... and I'm only 77 sharpen up your knowledge of NUFC. But you have already shown that to be woeful. I knew you would miss it....... N No U Use F For C Cunts like stupid LeazesMag. remind us again Noelie, of your knowledge of NUFC. Didn't know I had reminded you or anyone before. You have dreamed all your life of signing the players wanted and aiming to win the title ....... Not hardly, I remember dreaming of girls a lot, don't think my wet dreams had anything to do with players or titles Should I bump the thread to remind you that you were asleep during the Keegan years..... Absolutely, bump the thread to remind me I was asleep for a few years. N No U Use F for C Cunts as stupid as LeazesMag who tells lies, twists the truth, and can't get rid of his Halls & Shepherd malady. And above all else he just doesn't or can't recognize the fact that everytime he tries to belittle old Noelie he ends up proving just how pathetic he is and becomes a laughing stock in front of everone. everybody on the board realises we were "bringing in the wanted players and aiming for the title" during the Keegan years, and to a lesser degree the Robson years too Noelie. Everybody but you that is. What's your problem with admitting this ? Who exactly does it pain you to give credit too ? You didn't get the comment about 1927 did you I have N No U use F For C Cunts as stupid as you are LeazesMag..
