Thinking about the thread and the first post, it never ceases to amaze me how so many people think we just have a bottomless pit of money, and so don't seem to realise you need to plan how to spend it best
-
maybe, maybe not. If you think Owen has replaced Bellamy, we have spent 26m quid to replace him and Robert, which could have been spent replacing Shearer. So where exactly, do you think we are going to get the money now to replace Shearer, now that Souness has forced these funds to be used elsewhere ? Truth is, Owen Shearer and Bellamy should all be at the toon, with Owen through the door as Shearers replacement, him and Bellamy being long term top class forwards for Newcastle for the next 4 years or so.

Fair comments, it just seems to me that when someone tries to explain something using statistics like that they are making an excuse to whitewash it - whatever age group they come from, does it matter, the majority of crime of any sort more than likely is committed in this age group, because they are fitter, have their future ahead of them, and are in their prime of life ... It's not headline grabbing solutions, I realise characters are formed in childhood, which in itself is influenced by family circumstances, stablity of life, standard of living etc etc we all learn from our parents. Good and bad, unfortunately. But there are certain things for which punishment has to be given, and sometimes it's the only way. Rehabilitation just isn't possible. How many of us really know some snotty faced kid or teenager who just isn't bothered about the law or consequences of their actions ??? I bet most of us do, so who is responsible for that, what really is your solution, do you really think they aren't going to end up being bad parents rather than good parents, law abiding citizens or complete idiots ? I know that there a things I've done where a quick short shock was something I remembered and made sure I didn't do it again, and I'm not talking about knocking 7 bells of shit out of your kids, just a proper firm punishment. I can't see for the life of me how certain crimes can be treated in any other way as the perpetrator being removed from society for the safety of others. That and the deterrent factor. Have you never seen a mate of yours do something, and get punished for it in such a way that you have said to yourself, "I'll make sure I never do that?" How have we arrived at a situation in this country where someone can grab hold of a kid or whatever breaking into your house, damaging your property, yet if you lay a hand on him you end up in court for "assault". What a complete load of bollocks. As for your last sentence mate, we all have to go through life being told what to do now and again......
-
Never said it ever "fixed" it, or it would be easy. Just a general opinion, shared by the vast majority, that standards of behaviour and respect have diminished since punishment/deterrents etc etc have been lessened. These being a direct result of a general softening of societies attitudes in response to protests from bleeding hearts, left wing loonies and has now reached a stage whereby the infiltrator receives more sympathy and care than the victim - this has been discussed over and over again, but at the end of the day, in my opinion the highlighted bit is totally correct and while people bury their head in the sand it will only get worse. It's amazing how people change their tune though if or when it arrives on their own doorstep...... BTW Rob, what on earth is that last paragraph trying to say, it's nothing more than just an excuse for admitting "i can't be bothered, it doesn't concern me so I'm going to pretend it doesn't exist". Statistical crap. And as it's your generation that spawned all these lefties etc anyway, I'm not surprised you would rather turn a blind eye ... This topic started - like others, in fact a lot of others which is the very point - because someone was murdered/killed etc, and there are reasons why this type of crime and attitude is on the rise. It's nothing to do with "rehabilitation" at all, it's about deterrent and keeping dangerous people locked away and the decent majority able to live their lives in safety and decency. The law allowed this tosser to stay free - and he killed. End of. The law is an arse, and it's no good lamely bleating "it's the law". Change it.

Football Financial Analyst says NUFC doing a Leeds
LeazesMag replied to Tom_NUFC's topic in Newcastle Forum
But you've got to go with me, that's a scary story, right? Fook, what people can do with proper and nice footballclubs. (Never liked Leeds, though, but I feel sorry for them now ). 26800 I wouldn't worry, it's because of what happened to Leeds that leads me to believe no other club would be so reckless now. 26807 Have you ever heard of the Dutch Tulip mania (it's a genuine one, happened in the 17th century), the South Sea Bubble, the Wall street crash, the 1987 crash, the dotcom bubble? These crises happened after each other and the Leeds thing can be put right at the end. People don't learn from these things, when success is in sight they tend to forget everything. Real sane people lost everything in the dotcom bubble, or in the Tulip mania for that matter. It's like when your first bet would be a giant hit. Like a lad puts a fiver on Sunderland winning the League cup and they are probably rated 1.000.000 against 1. What nobody thought would ever happen (and I hope it never does), was that Hell was going to freeze over that year, and the whole world was going to be turned upside down and at the end of these catastrophes the biggest one was yet to come, all football players in England got a major weird football virus (it never reaches the Mackems, since no one ever goes there) next to that - due to the transfer window rules - no club is allowed to play other players then they had, so the grounds men and chairmen get out on the pitch to play for their teams and the Mackems (just) became League cup winner (even the grounds men and chairmen managed to keep them off the proper prices). The lad became a bloody millionaire. What will he do with is 5 mil, he'll go betting again, I reckon. He'll be predicting Blunderland to win the Uefa Cup, be champions and win the FA cup. We all know that will never happen, and this lad will probably be the only one in the world making these bets (perhaps some Germans will place the same, but never mind them). We all know they'll probably go down with less then 17 points and of course they will. The lad loses some money and he'll go on making idiotic bets, in the end he'll lend money (and everybody will lend him, since this is the only chap in the world that predicted the Mackems winning the League cup). Nobody notices the suicidal look in his eyes, everybody is just bamboozled with him predicting. But in the end he kills himself, with a debt (he hardly couldn't do anything right but he did know how to fraud) of billions all spend on bets that never paid off. Ok, I've got carried away there, but I hope you get my point. I truly think it will happen again, although I agree with you that it's probably not with NUFC under Freddy's rule. 26831 nice article cyberbats. Pleased to see your crusade against Shepherd is gathering pace in the week he has bankrolled his manager to the thick end of 30m quid. BTW, what exactly has Shepherd done to you? Did he turn you down for sex ? Has he run off with your missues ? We will be successful the day we bring a manager who knows what he is doing, FULL STOP -

Since the 2002-03 period we have maybe balanced the books better, but going into that period ie from the Keegan era, Dalglish, Gullit and the Bobby Robson years including especially the buys of Bellamy, Robert, Cort, Robert, Jenas, Woodgate, bramble and Viana, we were significantly down. So it needed re-dressing and more good housekeeping. Thing is, though, Shepherd is running the club well, at a far higher level than all of his predecessors before him, before 1992, and most other premiership clubs as a few of us, including me have been at pains trying to point out for a while now ........ There are many things that have pissed me off about Newcastle over the years, even in the last decade, but financial backing for managers and the level of player the club have competed for since 1992 is not one of those by a long way. -
He's not a mate of mine, but I do know him as he's a friend of my mate who I've went to the match with for years, suppose others have mentioned to him already though if it's that bad .......

I haven't seen this because I never buy it, I didn't know about the feature either, but I know Fink, he's what it says he is, I don't think he's missed a game of any descripton in about 40 years..... !!!!! If the articles are being presented like that it's because someone's decided to do it like that because he's not daft or thick at all. In fact he's a good lad.

Its not really fine, not you personally but it become incredibly annoying when people continue to peddle this shit, whether its to defend Souness, have a go at Bobby or just randomly to be wrong for no reason. I mean unless i'm going mad (well more so) i fail to see the point of a league system if we're going to say, "Oh sorry but that great big long season we've just witnessed where everybody has played each other home and away, actually we think its bollocks and will just make up our own opinion on who was best and slag our own team off claiming they were'nt really better than the teams below them" If you don't want to go over it for the "Umpteenth" time, fine, i don't remember you going over it before but thats your choice. But until somebody tells me exactly how they know better than the premier league season where each team should be, then the league system (and me!) are right. 26734 I agree, results have nothing to do with opinions, you simply can't argue with results ! The table doesn't lie. If you finish 4th, 8th, or 10th it's because thats what you were over 38 games in all conditions over 9 months.
-
nah, the year before that we were 3rd, and before that 4th. Souness was appointed to keep us there, at least wasn't he ? No matter what the standard of the rest was, we were 5th best, so we should definitely not settle for less especially now that he has been backed the way he has. At the time Bobby Robson was sacked we thought we were underachieving, not overachieving, and were 4 points behind Liverpool. He's bought himself some time now, Souness, but he's got to do it in my eyes, 6th, 7th or 8th is just not good enough. For this money, it's champions league or a trophy or both.

Haway Dan, we've improved the first 11 a lot over the summer, but to say it's as good as anyone's in the Premiership isn't right. We've always been able to beat anyone on our day, but I can't agree that our first 11 is as good as Chelsea's. Not at all. 26327 man for man, maybe not in the defence. and obviously we haven't got anywhere near their strength in depth. i still expect us to challenge for a top 4 place with that starting eleven. souness can ask for no more from his chairman. it's time for him to prove his doubters wrong with results. we should go to places like stamford bridge now confident that we can give them as good a game as anyone in the premierhsip. 26342 I worry about both our full backs, but if we can sort them out on the cheap(ish) in January, then we have a very good first team. I think we should be challenging for a European spot this season - hopefully the "guaranteed for UEFA and on the outskirts but still in with a chance of CL" spot. I still think we'll be a mile behind whoever wins the title. 26345 I would say, taking a team that was 5th in the league and spending 46m quid or so on it, [over 50m if we buy the full backs you want] should demand 2nd or 3rd place, ie get much closer to the top, at least to be honest. None of this "we might still be 5th......"

If not, meaning a european spot is the minimum, he's failed and it means he hasn't improved the team, or, he isn't good enough himself.

One of the few pundits who always gets behind us 100% Top man! 26193 The best pundit on the box by far, even if he didn't get behind us. I used to think his "bootroom" and the "footballers football show" on sky were great and they should both be brought back,

Exactly. Let them live in their 2 bedroomed houses for half a million quid, travel 3 hours to work every day..... Northumberland, Lakes, North Yorks...it's our little secret and keep it that way.
-
he hasn't identified anything. The biggest turd is still at the club with a pay rise. And if his changes, made at huge expense and possibly putting the club in a debt don't match where we were at least before he came then he has failed and someone else will have to come in and get more from the same players unless he sells first. EDIT. Shearer also was instrumental in identifying and persuading in persuading Parker, Owen and Solano to come to the club. His first signings as Newcastle manager in waiting. And I for one, because of this, feel a lot easier with this thought, even though if he directly succeeds Souness, it'll cost me ten quid.
-
I agree that now, he is probably here to stay unless things go badly. While I still think he isn't good enough, he now has a team [assembled at great cost remember] that we should expect to match the europe spot we were in before he came, that is why he got the job and if he doesn;t do it now there can be absolutely no excuses and he will be binned. A league place, or no cup wins and outside of a european spot is now out of the question bearing in mind the club have now accumulated a big transfer deficit. Allowing such expenditure with no reward will ensure we go down the same road as Leeds
-
only guessing, but before you do anything, have you 1. cleaned your laser with one of the disk cleaners 2. have you changed the type of disk you are using
-
Part of the Jenas fee also goes to Forest. I agree that Tottenham will challenge strongly for europe, good bet to make it, in spite of them signing Jeanarse, but I'll be interested to see how Jol plays him.

Indeed. For being realistic, read "frothing at the mouth and making wild accusations of not giving someone a chance to show they are the 8th wonder of the world"

Oh dont get me wrong on this, I agree that the criminals must be treat harsher than they are now, dont agree with the "take em skiing" views or anything else. In this case though, he wasnt yet found guilty somebody however made a decision that he wasnt a danger to the public and wouldnt reoffend therefore he got bail. Whoever is responsible for that decision, needs to be checked out to ensure they're doing their job properly and then have their arse severely booted! 23510 precisely Mr Pud and the cry of "build more prisons" normally comes from the same political parties and newspapers that campaign for lower taxes................... 24302 you are quite wrong. I would be quite happy to pay a bit more tax if it was spent on prisons, NHS, education, national service to teach kids respect of authority and security of the country rather than having plenty to give to sponger bogus asylum seekers and terrorists who hide behind them. My point is the law is an arse, but blokes like you are all right Jack and just not too concerned about it - until someone or something affects your life, then you'll be there wondering how it happened.
