TheMoog 0
Former Newcastle United and Wimbledon striker Carl Cort (31) has today signed for Brentford FC on a five-month contract. Cort played for Norwich City last season making his debut against Reading. Following Norwich's relegation to League One Cort left the club after having his contract terminated by mutual consent. Cort spent time with Wycombe Wanderers during the pre-season and (presumably) did not offer Cort a contract. He has previously played for Wimbledon, Lincoln City, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City (where he was one of Martin Allen's first "signings") and UD Marbella. Cort is the Premiership's top scorer EVER (for those that have not scored more than a goal in any one game). Newcastle boss Bobby Robson paid £7million for Cort in the summer of 2000. He is one of seven English players who have made a £7 million transfer and never played for England. He is also the only English player who has made a £7 million transfer to be banned from Tesco for (alledgelly!) queue jumping with Mrs Cort and inquiring: "Don't you know who we are?" I wonder if he still gets injured as much as when he was here.

The Fish 12573
If anyone deserves a clip reel it's Cort, that volley against Everton (I think) was class.
Norbert Colon 0
If anyone deserves a clip reel it's Cort, that volley against Everton (I think) was class. Aye it was class - he started really well but then broke his leg i think and that was pretty much that. It was rumoured his lass had an explosive temperament (allegedly gave carl a good kicking from time to time) so the queue jumping comment isn't a surprise

Chaser 1919
Good read. Makes you realise sometimes how close the players are to reading the stuff we put online and how much it might affect them mentally, or if they're playing whilst technically unfit. Theres one or two players that spring to mind recently who have probably been given an unfair assessment of their ability against injury.

Gemmill 63192
Hadn't read the article until now. It sounds like his career was thoroughly unenjoyable tbh. From getting bullied by a bunch of dickheads at Wimbledon* to getting terrible medical advice at Newcastle, and basically being finished after that. Shame cos he comes across as a nice bloke. *Robbie Earle cutting a young kid's shoes up, more cunty gang than crazy gang. Also no surprise to hear that Kinnear never turned up at the training ground all week, the lazy cunt.
ewerk 39231
Quote “Joe wasn't a tactician. He was more of a motivator,” Cort explains. “I'm not being cruel but with Wimbledon’s demise there wasn't any adaptation when the foreign players started to come in. It was always ‘let’s smash him, let's hit him’. But what next if that doesn’t work?” That was in 1999 and yet nearly ten years later Mike Ashley thought to himself 'that's the kind of manager Newcastle United need'. 17 years on and it doesn't feel real. See also S Bruce. Completely and utterly done and found out by a decade when fatty brought him into one of, if not the most important roles at the club.
David Kelly 1837
He used to get in the Engine in Howdon when he was playing here. I remember him being in there with Wayne Quinn one time. By all accounts he was a really sound lad.
